Great for big jobs

This thing is massive. I have several of these sharpening stones but they are much smaller and have done a good job for many years. This particular sharpening stone has a coarse grit that will be great for sharpening axes, shovels and the like. The metal plate that the diamond coating in embedded in is about 1/4" thick and weighs about 3 pounds which is great when sharpening because it does not move. Also included are 4 rubber feet that can be stuck on the bottom.

Great sharpening stone

My husband had always wanted one of these sharpening stones. When I gave it to him, he was like a kid at Christmas opening the box! He couldn't wait to try it out and he was not disappointed. These stones are guaranteed not to hollow or groove and provide consistent even sharpening. You don't need to use oil on them; they have little rubber feet on the bottom to keep them in place when using them. They can be used to sharpen steel, tungsten, ceramic, or other hard materials. When sharpening using these DMT stones, it will not take as much effort or time to sharpen chisels, planes, knives or whatever. You will not be disappointed with this product.

Sharpens knives great

I received this stone in a box and it weighed a good amount. I attached the rubber feet to the bottom of the stone and it gripped my counters great. I sharpened about five knives and it took a few minutes to get a great sharpen on the knives. I can also use this stone to sharpen chisels and other tools that need to be sharpened. The nice thing about this is it is made in the United States.

I love this diamond sharpener

I recently got this DMT brand Dia-sharp 10 inch by 4 in diamond coated whetstone it can be used wet with water or dry. This one is coarse grit 45 micron 325 mesh. It works fast to put an edge on most any size knife or tool although for the finest edge for say a filet knife a fine or extra fine should be used after getting the dull edge sharp with this. It is big enough to use on outdoor tools like an axe. With the stick on the rubber feet that comes with it it stays in place when on a hard surface.

After doing research, DMT looked to be the highest quality maker of diamond sharpening stones. I purchased the Course, Fine and Extra Fine versions. I broke in the stones according to the DMT instructions. Then I tried sharpening a chisel. The results were poor. The diamond coated plates felt like they had “sticky” spots. They all had differing uneven wear patterns on the back of the chisel, indicating that the plates were not flat. The extra fine produced a noticeably coarse scratch pattern. I took the same chisel over to my usual sharpening station with a granite surface plate and 1200 grit wet-or-dry abrasive paper. There I could hone the same chisel to a mirror finish. Do not buy these or any other diamond sharpening stone. Instead, get a granite surface plate and packs of 300, 600 and 1200 grit wet-or-dry abrasive paper. Your chisels and plane blades will be sharp, it will be less expensive and you will be happy. I returned all three these back to Home Depot.
