Beautiful Object, Great Price, if it Werent Warped

I have a home that dates to the turn of the last century. When I redid the ceiling in the kitchen, I found an old gas line for the original kitchen fixture. The plaster was a mess, so we ended up pulling down the plaster and lathe and replacing it with 5/8" drywall. I bought this to cover the gas line, with the intention of drilling out the center and making this a decorative moment in the ceiling. Overall, the aesthetic is just what I was looking for - something clean and simple, in the tradition of the period from which my house originates. The material was also great, since most of the wood in my house is Red Oak. The price was perfect, because apparently the packaging was damaged.The issue is that it was warped, with the ends dropping almost 0.5" in an even arch, almost as if when they joined the wood, they did so with all grain in the same direction. Obviously, storage also played a part in the warping, as wherever this was stored obviously had a high enough moisture content to induce the warping. Its currently clamped, as I attempt to bring it back to plumb before drilling it out and staining it. Overall, I dont know if the issue was storage or the product itself - some good, some bad, some ugly.

I was restoring my house built in 1889 and trying to find quality finishes to put back into the house. (Plastic is now the common material these are made of with is extremely frustrating) I was looking for something not too ornate and this wood medallion was perfect! It was easy to install and looks great. A bonus was that I was able to buy from this friendly, responsive business and not some big box store.

It tops off!

I ordered two of these solid wood beautiful medallions. They were installed to top off my ceiling fans , I cut out the center to receive the wiring and ceiling mounts with a 4inch hole saw. I hand rubbed with tung oil to give a low sheen finish. These medallions are against dark brown cork ceilings, they look great on my 9.5 feet ceilings.

It's very well made

I've remodeled my family room that was painted in dark red with all brown furniture and white ceiling. All finishing I made with oak wood so this Ceiling Medallion feet perfect to my design.

Love this medallion

My dining room needed a touch more stained wood trim to match the kitchen and living room. I stained the medallion oak to match the other trim then installed a vintage crystal chandelier. It looks great. Went well with all my dining room oak antiques.

Beautiful quality

Needed a medallion, wanted something simple for dining room chandelier, which had to be moved 6 inches. This is gorgeous quality - didn’t want anything cheap or flimsy in my 170-year old Federal and this was the perfect choice. Painted white, has become part of the ceiling but a nice finishing touch! Heavy, lovely piece.

For $50 I did not think the product was well...

For $50 I did not think the product was well made. Not even sanded. It's just rough cut.

Dining room make over

16" Ceiling medallion is just the tight touch for a 24" chandellier. I previously tried the PVC/extruded ones but the wood is a million times nicer.

This is a decent medallion if you require wood. Unfortunately, the detail and depth available is not what it would be for a polyurethane medallion. In addition, the seams between each section of wood are visible (the product is made from clamped sections of hardwood). While there were no open glue lines, the grain and tone of wood were not matched ideally.

Center Hole Too Large to be held by most lights or fans

High quality but make sure your fixture has a ceiling cap large enough to span the center hole
