We are very happy with this home weather station. Purchasing it on their website was quick & easy. Shipping was fast! Directions to set it up were easy to follow. The display is precise. The only thing we would like to have on the display is “chill factor†…thus the 4 star rating. We are enjoying the app, being able to check the weather at our home while we are away. We definitely recommend this weather station to others!
I really like the unit and what it measures, but this unit is a replacement of one that only lasted two years. Granted, it went thru several hurricanes in SWFL this summer, but inland and not on the coast. It would have been nice to replace only the outdoor thermometer part instead of the whole outdoor unit. I am going to try one more and hopefully it lasts longer than two years.
Everything about this unit works well and is reliable with the exception of wifi. I have really good wifi, run two home offices, several tv's, no issue with anything. This unit refuses to stay connected even though my settings never changed. Support constantly says to reset router. Really????? of all the devices hooked up I should constantly reset the router for this one product. No thanks.
Had the weather station set up for about 3 weeks now, was super easy to set up and get connected to the internet interfaces. Seems like accurate data that it’s collecting, happy with how it’s preformed so far!
First unit stopped showing outside temp, then UVI, then other info after about one year. All the while trying the suggested troubleshooting procedures and contacting the company. Decided to buy another replacement at NO discount from the company as it was just barely out of warranty. Next unit is doing the very same thing again after about one year so I’m looking for yet another replacement, and I’m looking for other non-ambient weather options.
So, out of the blue, my WS-2902 stopped reporting temperature and humidity readings. They disappeared from the AWN app and were represented with -- on my panel inside. Doing some searching and even looking at AWN's documentation, they said I needed to replace the whole sensor array ($130!). I managed to come across this listing, and figuring that everything else in my sensor array still worked, I'd likely just need this sub-assembly replaced. Ordered, installed, but still didn't report the readings. Then, I did a complete sensor array reset -- removed the batteries, covered the solar panel for 24 hours, reinstalled the batteries, uncovered the solar panel, then held the reset button for 1 minute. The readings started showing up in the panel -- initially about 20 degrees too warm, but within a few minutes seem to have recalibrated and started reporting correctly. IIRC, it took ~5 minutes before the readings started showing up again all together (plus a few minutes for the readings to calibrate).
First of all the monitor/screen is very small — 20% smaller than the much cheaper La Crosse this “premium†system is replacing. Set up was ok. My impression is that the quality of the components is marginal — doubt that system will last much longer than 1 year warranty.
I am a repeat customer and chose this model as an update of the 7078 that just gave out even after replacing the array.
I like knowing what th conditions are where I live as the online and weather on TV are often several degrees different then what it is at my house. Also, when it rains, if there are thunder showers the amount of rain can be completely different!
The weather station itself is fine but remote monitoring screen is terrible. It's hard to read except at specific viewing angles. The touch buttons are flaky and often register more than one touch event when you touch it -- and there's no feedback to tell if you've touched the button or not. It has an alarm clock that is very easy to accidentally turn on -- why it even has an alarm clock is beyond me in the first place. Who wants an alarm clock on their weather monitoring system? It's a completely stupid feature that I've accidentally turned on too many times and then it goes off at 12:00am.
I love everythng about this weather station except for one thing. Let's start with the positives: the accuracy is phenomenal, and it is a pleasure to be able to check the weather out when we are away, as we have two residences, which leads me to the one negative: there is a frequent, and I do mean frequent, interruption of the updating of reporting data, sometimes for weeks on end. At this review, one report has been unreachable for 23 days and another for a full month. I called customer service and they were very helpful but the problem persists. The agent I spoke to informed me that the problem is likely a result of the device needing to connect to a 2.4 GHz router. The devices are located very close to our 5 GHz routers; the 2.4 devices are our extenders. In both houses, the devices worked fine without any reporting issues for months before this issue cropped up, so I suspect the actual answer lies elsewhere. Overall, I would buy it again but if a software update to allowing the devices to connnect to a 5 GHz router is feasible I would have no objections.
Request installation information before buying.
I wouldn't have ordered if the description had informed me that the solar panel didn't charge rechargeable batteries. That was the main reason for this purchase. I finally got time to install it today as I've been unavailable to do so. After reading the instructions it says it required 2 AA alkaline batteries for the station transmitting to the weather display. This defeated the whole purpose of this purchase. I went to return it to Walmart and was told it was out of return date as it was over 30 days old and not returnable. I WOULD NOT BUY THIS ITEM. I WAS INFORMED OF THE RETURN POLICY ON MY RECEIPT.
A decent weather station once you get it setup to your satisfaction. I am disappointed that the daily rain accumulation can not be set to read inches of rain it will only read millimeters of rain. It is somewhat inconvenient that you can only get 12 hour day segments with the clock and date settings. The 24 hour clock is ok but many people use am and pm settings not military time 24 hours.
I was referred to Ambient by a friend months ago, and after months of thinking about it I finally made the purchase. I am very happy with the value. I would highly suggest being careful not to install over a roof or near brick that absorbs and radiates heat. I ended up mounting mine about 10 feet above the fenceline and it seems to be accurate compared with others in the area. We’ll see how it weathers but so far I am happy with this purchase!
The thermometer on my previous Ambient Weather system quit working and none of the reset steps worked. I ordered a new one and I like the easy setup plus the ability to check it via the web when away from home. The wind speed and direction seem more accurate than the previous system. The rain gauge is not very accurate; it under measures rain by roughly 1/4 compared to my calibrated, stand alone digital rain gauge and the old fashioned tube rain gauge.

The outside temperature and humidity function on my Ambient WS2902 lasted all of a year and a half. Paid $30.99 and tax for a replacement part which arrived in a timely manner. But it was impossible to remove the original part because the teeny tiny screws were literally impossible to remove from the original unit and hopelessly self destructed in the process because the were so small, soft and inaccessible. I am mechanically inclined and know how to remove two screws. I ended up throwing good money after bad. Never again.
Bought to share weather where I am with friends/family on the other side of the country. Yes you can change the device settings to be Metric, but when you share your public page, it ignores your settings and uses Imperial with no way for visitors to change it!
This is the fourth Ambient station I have purchased. The original 2902 worked great for 7 years. The second and third stations are now only about three years old and are at my daughter and son's house. I replaced the original unit with a new 2902 and set up was relatively easy. However, the rain gauge does not appear to be functioning on the control panel. I have tried to communicate with Ambient on multiple occasions (only get to leave a message, never able to speak with anyone, unlike the days before the acquistion by the new owners). I have had at least 15 emails and 25 or more phone calls and maybe some of the worst customer service today. I like the unit itself, but the follow up and customer service is all wet.
In 2018, I replaced my ancient WS-1080 with a WS-2902. I liked the entire package. However, 4 years later, the humidity sensor on the ThermoHygro-Assembly failed. I purchased and installed a new ThermoHygro-Assembly and that failed soon thereafter. Ambient Weather support came through and, for free, replaced the entire array. Now, a year after installing the new array, both the temperature and humidity sensors have suddenly become stuck at 110.5 degrees and 50% humidity. I've tried all of the reset options and none have fixed the problem. So now, do I replace my system with a new WS-2902 (or WS-2000 which uses the same ThermoHygro-Assembly, or the WS-5000 which may use a similar ThermoHygro-Assembly), or do I simply move on to a new manufacture? At an average life span of 3 years per ThermoHygro-Assembly, the quality just doesn't justify the expense.
