Not a fan of this item.

I'm not a huge fan of this item. Wasn't super difficult to put together but it bucks out in spots it should be flush and some of the screws didn't fit correctly and just spin around and around. The bottom is not secure in the middle board at all. I used some wood glue but if you use dirt in this thing the bottom will fall out without getting extra screws and securing it better. I think I'd rather put in plastic pebbles instead of dirt because it won't last long with dirt and water. Instructions were easy to follow though. But final product isn't the best. I like that it had precut holes for screws but I think that's also why some stripped. Plus they weren't set evenly and although it says the bottom middle panel won't sit flush on the sides, they were crooked and didn't match each other when I was done. The top part bends at the corners where it should be flush but that's because of the unevenness through the side panels and the metal rods. You do need a pair of pliers to hold the bolts while you turn the caps on top. Manual doesn't say anything about pliers. Just have to know to use that. I probably would not buy this again for a matching set. Maybe my kit was just warped. Not sure. In the photos you can't really tell but I did try to show the weird parts. Less

Excello Global Products wooden planter box is awesome & includes a pole holder in the middle!

This Extra-Large wooden planter box arrived safely double-boxed and ready for assembly. Hardware and instructions are included (all that is needed is a screwdriver & a pair of pliers to hold the bottom bolts while tightening the bolt caps). The wooden sections are easy to identify. There are 8 side supports, 2 bottom bases, 2 bottom side supports, 2 side pole supports, 1 middle pole support, and 1 bottom pole base support. Hardware includes the metal pole support, 4 threaded bolts for securing the sides, 4 bolt caps, 3 short screws, 8 medium screws, and 8 long screws. The pole sleeve is included so you can add your own post or whatever you decide to use.I like that the wood is finished with a food-safe, oil-based, waterproof sealer to protect it from the outdoor elements. I like the fact that this can be used as a planter or can be filled with decorative stone and it has a pole holder so I can install one of my post lights in the center. What really impressed me was that this company showed me that they care about their customers because when I was missing a bolt, I received an immediate response to my email (they also have a toll-free phone number). The part was sent that same day and it arrived in 5 days. It is so refreshing to deal with a company that cares! Assembly was quick and easy. My photo shows a short post with lights, but I will add the other post with some gravel, soil, and plants when I install the planter in its permanent location. Less

Great look Planter!

We got this planter for my son’s deck to add some string lighting. The planter was easy to assemble, the boards were cut to fit and the long bolts at the 4 corners hold it tightly together. They are unpainted so we decided to stain it a darker color then put a clear protecting coat. We used a 7 foot piece of 1 ¼” PVC pipe, it fits well and painted the PVC black. The 3 hand adjust bolts tighten and hold the PVC in place. We filled the planter with flowers. The planter looks great, nice addition

Great multi-use planter

The Excello Global Products Extra Large 18 in. Natural Wooden Planter Box with String Light Pole Sleeve doesn't take to long to assemble. The planter is made from high grade weather-resistant materials to ensure a long life. The planter also drainage holes to allow excess water to escape. The planter can be used for many different things by installing a pole. You can use it for stringing lights, holding a bird house or bird feeder..

Multi purpose planter that holds a pole.

I love this Extra Large 18 in. Natural Wooden Planter Box with String Light Pole Sleeve made by Excello Global products. It is easy to put together with a screw driver and the included Allen wrench. I plan to put a bird feeder on this but it could hold a lot more weight and still be sturdy. It doesn’t include the pole but they are available from the same manufacturer. It has a food safe oil based clear stain that protects against the sun and moisture. There are plenty of gaps to provide adequate drainage. Now there were some screw holes that didn’t line up properly but it was easy enough to make new holes. I had a couple boards that didn’t sit flush but no worries. It adds to the rustic look.

The larger size allows for a more sturdy base so it doesn't fall over easy

These garden planters are very straight forward to assemble. Made from quality sturdy wood and not particle board that doesn't last in open weather. The look is very appealing, and the assembly was easy. Excello Global Products Premium String Light Poles. I installed a large patio umbrella and held it perfect with out ang issues! I would recommend this product to hang light from or a patio umbrella.

Good Planter Box giving you options

This Wooden Planter with a Pole Insert would be 5 Stars if little tweeks were done. As mentioned by others, the boards aren't numbered (means I HAD to read the directions) and one board was chipped. Since I plan to use outdoors, it wasn't enough to contact manufacturer. Assembly wasn't hard and took 15 mins on one. The other had messed-up threads, but I was able to overcome. The box is sturdy and once it was tightened together looked really nice. I didn't know what size was best, so I ordered the Large and Extra Large Boxes. There is approx. 4" difference in width and height. Board size is the same. I thought the pole came with the box, but it is just the insert which the pole (light, umbrella, bird feeder) sits in. The insert is well made. However, I would have put a hole in the bottom pole support board for drainage out of the insert. I drilled a hole myself. I'm going to order another Extra Large as the area I plan to use these as light pole holders is windy. The wife may want to paint it as well. But it is a good planter box providing lots of options. Less

Great option for string light poles!

I love that this planter style base means I don’t have to dig into my grass to install string light poles. My landscapers will certainly prefer this planter on the patio than having to work around poles in the grass. I also don’t have to cut up the patio. Much better than having to pour concrete into a basic planter to get the pole to stay put inside.

Perfect poolside planter to hold our patio umbrellas

Well-made and sturdy, this unit also looks as good as it performs. We needed some nice looking planters to place next to our swimming pool to hold large umbrellas to shade areas where swimmers want to get out of he sun yet float in the water. We tried a number of umbrella holders, but they were ugly and insufficiently sturdy. This planter was the perfect solution. These look so much better than other things we've tried and they look like they were made for this use case. It is quite sturdy and we filled the base with a little over 1.5 cu ft of pond pebbles, which weigh about 150 lbs. This provided a very stable base that was not likely to get blown over in the high winds we periodically get in our yard.Assembly was very easy and fast, requiring only a screwdriver, pliers (to hold the nut) and the supplied Allen wrench to tighten the rod. Each corner has a rod that runs the full height of the planter and connect using a decorative hex head bolt cap that holds the unit tightly together. The metal pole support runs from a wooden pole support down snugly into a bottom pole support. The pole support keeps the rocks from blocking the pole. The inserted poles, which are not supplied, are secured with 3 knob bolts. The wood is pre-coated with a food safe (which could be useful if growing vegetables in the planter), oil-based waterproof sealer, making it ideal for our use. These would be great with string lights as well, which it appears is their intended use, but we absolutely love them as umbrella holders. We're very pleased with these and highly recommend them. Less

Nice natural looking should work in any yard

Once assembled it's very nice looking. The pole holder is a great feature. This arrived faster than expected so the new patio is not finished but it will still be used until then. The plan is to use 4 potted plants. We really like it, just the right size, not extremely large, but large enough it won't get lost. The natural look is just what we wanted. I do plan on putting runners on the bottom to help with drainage flow away from the box to help it stay dry.Assembly is not overly challenging. The screws are simply named, small, medium and large. Think the medium should be large too, just for extra strength. A few parts could be better described when needed. The cuts are fine, don't seem machined more done by hand, a little uneven, but everything fits. A few steps forget to tell which screw to use. Not hard to figure out. The large screws are for the 2 umbrella boards. The small screws to secure to umbrella pipe. We're excited to start using this so off the buy plants. We won't get an umbrella until the patio is finished. We're hoping to use a tilting umbrella to reach over a few seats. We'll be adding gravel to the box for weight to keep the umbrella from pulling it over.Great planter and umbrella holder. Looks, style, and color are great. Quality is good.Great selection for any yard. Less

Wooden Planter Box

I like the design of the planter box that will allow any pole up to one and three quarters inch diameter. It is well suited for as a deck umbrella holder with added weight such as river pebbles. It can also be used as a planter for your deck. If used as a planter I would coat the inside with a waterproofing application. The box is easily assembled and the sides interlock to make it sturdy.

Multiple Options for pole accessories

Assembly was really simple and the planter feels nice and sturdy. The wood looks nice and has a sealer on it to protect it. I like how you have multiple options on what you can do with this wooden planter box and the pole stand they provide you. If using as an umbrella stand they recommend filling the base up to the center support bracket, this is to prevent it from tipping. Overall I'm really happy with this sealed wooden planter box and would recommend it to friends and family.

Attractive but difficult to assemble.

The wooden planter box comes unassembled with all the hardware necessary to fully assemble it. The parts are not labeled but each one is uniquely shaped. I would recommend doing a little bit of loose assembly before you start fastening all the parts together so that you have a good understanding of how the unit is supposed to go together. There was a problem installing the bottom bases to the lower side supports. The pre-drilled holes in the bottom bases do not line up with the pre-drilled holes in the lower side supports. The next problem I ran into was step four the assembly which is to put the side supports onto the assembly created in steps one and two. The tolerance is too tight for the boards to fit in there. By loosening the screws on the side base side base supports I was able to get the parts to fit in there. Once I had the long bolts in place, I then retightened the base panel screws. The pre-drilled holes on the middle pole support board and the pool support sideboards also did not line up. The fit is not flush in all areas after it's fully assembled The box does have a bit of a rustic look so that's probably not a big deal. One thing to be aware of is the long bolts in the corners that hold the entire box together are metal at the bottom and are not inset into the wood. So there's a definite chance of scratching the flooring surface that the box sits on. Last but not least there was a knot in the wood in the middle pole support board making it virtually impossible to put all three fastening screws into the wood. I had to pre-drill a small hole through the knot in order to put the third screw in. While it’s an attractive flower box, I rated this a 3 because of the assembly issues and the bottom screws which could scratch the floor. Less

A good looking, solidly built wood planter

This wooden planter was very easy to assemble, my wife compared it to Jenga construction. The wooden pieces simply slot together and are secured in place with long bolts running vertically in each corner. While we found some of the boards were slightly warped, once everything was tightened down securely, it all snugged up well and is not a concern, and not really visible to any real extent. The web description says in one place that there are drainage holes, and in another says there are open slots on the bottom for drainage. Ours did not have these, but this is nothing a drill bit cannot solve. My wife added some casters to it so she can more easily move it on the deck.

Sturdy Wooden Planter Box with pole Sleeve

I have a rot iron plant hanger in my Northern facing front garden. The sun in summer hits this area directly, in the winter it is mostly in the shade. The plant hanger holds several hanging orchid plants that do not do well in direct sunlight. I found that using the EXCELLO GLOBAL PRODUCTS Extra Large Natural Wooden Planter Box to hold the rot iron planter hanger allows me to relocate the orchid plants out of the direct sun and onto the front shaded porch. The planter box is 18 inch square and seems very sturdy. The planter comes with a pole sleeve. I use a 1/2 inch PVC pipe inside a 1 inch PVC pipe to sleeve the rot iron inside the planter box pole sleeve to snugly hold the hanger. I filled the planter with two half buckets of river rock to make it more secure.

Easy to assemble, nice wooded pieces!

This EXCELLO GLOBAL PRODUCTS Extra Large 18 in. Natural Wooden Planter Box with String Light Pole Sleeve went together very easily. Be sure to follow the enclosed directions. The center pole holder is a universal pole clamp supports all poles 1.75 in. diameter or smaller. I plan on using mine to support one of my bird feeder poles. You'll want to buy a bag of gravel to fill it with, up to the cross support beam and then fill the rest with planting dirt. The gravel will allow for good drainage. Then you can plant flowers around the base of the pole area. Love the wood tones!

Stain it for great looking results

I'm happy to give my review of this wooden planter box with universal pole holder. Made by Excello Global Products. mine came with everything needed including a bag of hardware and an Allen key several screws and a instructions assembly instructions which are including pictures and a description on how to assemble. Assembling this planter box was quite easy if you have a screwdriver I actually used an electric screwdriver and it went a lot faster. After I completed my build I am actually going to stain it or paint it to give it to color. Then it will be perfect and look great in my garden.

Works but with some improving

The item came well protected inside and out. Nothing was damaged and all parts for the installation were received. Assembly was pretty simple and the instructions were easy to follow however I did notice one big flaw in the design “too much gap” in the floor pieces which is going to cause lots of dirt to flow out during heavy rain or even when we water the plants. In order to prevent this, I layered the bottom with garden liner to help decrease the dirt dripping. The light post fixture is the main purpose I selected this item and I got to say its verry well built and comes in handy. Normally I just push the post into the dirt which causes it to lean over time but not with this one. The pole fixture holds securely

READ THE DIRECTIONS

My first word of advise will be to READ THE DIRECTIONS, get all of pieces out of the box and get them organized. Some of the pieces are stamped with the coinciding letters on the instructions and some are not, to make things easier on yourself, just grab a roll of masking tape and label the piece so it is more visible. While it was a little time consuming, it was simple enough to put together and is VERY STURDY! I felt very accomplished once it was done and my plants are thriving in it...it also is very cute and I have gotten a lot of compliments on it! Honestly if my patio were bigger I would probably order another one!

Planter boxes

This planter box comes with an included insert for an accessory pole, although it does NOT include any kind of accessory pole. This planter was missing its directions in the box. I was able to figure out easily how to put it together. The wood appears to be good wood. The hardware looks to be stainless steel. The boxes are strong enough once the four corner bolts are tightened up. Very nice planter boxes.
