So loud and not a good cooktop

When on the fans are noisy but we can live with that. It's just so loud when you are actually cooking and frying!!!! Manual says it's normal but it can't be. Friends bought Samsung and it's completely quiet. Next, it cooks only in the middle. Even if you put a small pan on appropriately sized burner it doesn't heat up 1-2" from the edge. Lastly within the first week I have noticed a light crack next to one of the burners. Last cooktop we used for over a decade and no cracks!!

Satisfied Customer

Based on one month's usage, I am a happy owner of my Empava induction cooktop (30 inch).

Great Range Top

This is our second induction range top and we are really pleased. We had to increase our amperage from 30 to 40 in the fuse box which added another $*** to install. That's because our house is old. I especially like the power boost, the warming element, and being able to combine elements for larger pots. We didn't have any of these features on our old range top. There are no knobs. This is important to me because I like to use the surface for extra work space. So far so good!

We have only had this for a year. At first we really loved it. Then at about 6 months in the edges started cracking. And one large burner stopped working entirely. Now at a year, the other large burner loudly popped and burnt out the other day. I know it wasn't very expensive but I expected it to last longer than 1 year. Really disappointed.

Excellent replacement choice

I replaced a 40 year old Magic Chef for this Empava with no regrets. Installation was easy as there are removable clips that gives you extra space in case the stove cutout does not exactly match. I had an electrian ensure wiring was correct for this stove. I did have to get new magnetic cookware.

I do not recommend this product. It came defective with only 1 burner working. I called the manufacture and they offered to send repair parts, but I declined. I returned the product and selected an alternate brand. DO NOT BUY THIS.

Induction stove top speaks for itself

Very nice. Has a timer to program shut off. Sensitive to moisture if clean up a spill while burners on stove top shuts off or won't start until you dry it well. Power boost for boiling water is awesome!! But not a deal breaker. We love it.

Bad cooktop. Deceptive burner sizes

We have an Electrolux hybrid cooktop, half radiant half induction. It works really well but we hadn't been sure about induction. Now we wanted to jump in and get a full induction cooktop. I thought the Empava sounded perfect. Particularly the burner sizes. Unfortunately this cooktop is very bad in ways I didn't realize a cooktop could be bad. The difference between the Electrolux and this cooktop is huge. This device is not worth it. 1) The biggest issue. Empava advertises their main burner to be 10". This is deceptive at best. As shown in the associated photo, this burner is no more than 6". They simply draw a BIG circle around a tiny burner and call it a 10" burner. Not cool. I'm not sure any of the burners in the cooktop are really any bigger than 6". Its just the drawn circle size that changes. In the picture you can see water boiling in a 12" pan (with 10" base) only in a small tight circle at best 6" across. On our Electrolux, the entire bottom of the pan would be boiling on its 10" burner. This is completely deceptive and unacceptable. It's scary as well that this cooktop seems to be sold under many different brand names such as Forno, True Induction, etc.,, and sold through many reputable outlets. 2) Another issue with this cooktop is the evenness of heating. Inductioncooktops typically have a max burner power output, then modify the generated square wave shortening the on portions to reduce power. But at some point the power amplifier can't make the on portion any shorter. Induction cooktops at low power settings then resort to turning the burner on and off for seconds at a time. Our Electrolux does an on/off cycle in about 2-2.5 seconds. Thats fairly quick and most cookware will even out the temperature change so you don't notice it. The Empava however does an VERY long 10 second cycle. At low power it may be on for 1 second at 1000 watts when off for 9 seconds. 1000 watts is a lot. Enough that even 1 second of 1000 watts can be enough to start food boiling. The end result is an inability to simmer without burning or boiling. Again, decent induction cooktops cycle on and off more frequently with great temperature control that can be used even to melt chocolate. Not this cooktop. 3) The third main issue, somewhat similar to the second. With induction technology its fairly simple to generate high power. All manufacturers make a big deal about how fast you can boil water. But the technology makes that very simple. The hard part is reducing that power. Most cooking isn't done at a raging boil. Its often levels of simmering. The 9 power levels of this cooktop are spaced in a way that does not make sense. Maybe as a developer it made sense, not for someone cooking. The Forno equivalent cooktop lists actual watts for each power level. The Empava seems to match it fairly well. Ideally power levels should keep increasing at a similar rate. However the Empava does not. As an extreme example, on the smallest burner, power level 1 = 100 watts, while level 3 = 300 watts. Going from power level 3 is 300% as much as power level 1, or 200% additional power. However going from level 6 (1000 watts) to level 8 (1200) watts is only 20% more power. The end result is a bunch of power levels which in practice are almost the same, and almost no ability to control low power simmering. The end result is that it is very difficult if not impossible to do a good job of low power simmering. By the way, there's also a problem with L or keep warm setting. On our cooktop, this results in a fast boil for ~5 seconds then off for 5. Its MUCH higher setting than 1, or even 2. More like 3 or 4. Seems like a firmware bug. Other comments, The cooktop looks nice, but looks are deceiving. Each burner has its own fan which is pretty noisy. Get them all going and its quite a racket. Again I didn't realize this would vary much between models. Our new Frigidaire is completely silent, no fans at all, at low power settings. And when the fans do kick in, its barely audible. Construction looks like it is not meant to be repairable. The glass top is apparently sealed or the metal base and cannot be easily removed. Further background: The cooktop we received had the glass top cracked during shipment. This did not affect its performance. It was fully functional but we returned it. We ended up buying an prior model Frigidaire induction cooktop. It performs similar to our Electrolux (same company) except with 4 induction burners. Very happy with it and definitely worth the extra money.

Overstock has a better price than another major online retailer. The quality of this cooktop is quite good even though I have not heard of the brand before. Also, it's easy to install; however, be careful with the measurement since it seems to be a little bit smaller than other 30" cooktops so we need to add exra wood trim to support it.. but other than that.. I'm very happy with the purchase.

I replaced a downdraft unit. I absolutely love the cooktop and induction cooking. The only issues thus far are 1) it was the right width, but not as deep as the GE I replaced, so that leaves a 5/8" gap. I will build a bezel to hide the gaps. The other issue is that it is already scratched. The glass is nice for now and I think I can polish out the scratch, but I worry that it will continue to scratch easily. The instructions are poor, but the Yellow/Green wire hooks up to the white wire in US wiring. The brown and blue wire hook to (US) red and black. Doesn't matter which goes to which.

Fantastic quality and price. It works like a pro! Great find, after a long search. It is very quiet, at heats up extremely fast. I am new to induction technology, and it is very impressive - it feels safe as it only heats the pot, while the surface remains cool (except for the the burner I am using).

works great. Our learning curve has been with the pots ...

Update 3/9/18: We are still VERY pleased with our cooktop. Everything works great, it heats quickly, cooks nicely, and is super easy to keep clean.
