Love it!!!!
This planter has wheels that makes it super easy to move around. Also something I love that I never thought about was its height, my back isn't too good so being able to work on the garden without bending over is super useful to me! 10/10
Last year I bought this same planter with a self-watering feature for this same price. Now the self-watering option has doubled in price! So I had to settle for this one.
Great Outdoor Planter
I like about the Cedarcraft Elevated Planter that it's spacious enough for a small garden without the tilling or digging involved in an in-ground garden. Where I am, there's a lot of clay in the soil, making an in-ground garden even more challenging. The dimensions are 19.5 x 45.5 inches and 8.5 deep. It requires approximately 2 large bags of garden soil, or 4 cubic feet. The design is sturdy with steel legs that are powder coated for durability and cedar wood sides. The base of the unit is made from strong plastic panels. The plastic panels don't have holes in them, but water can escape around and in between them. The grid-like design of the plastic bottom is such that it will capture some water, helping to keep the soil from drying out between waterings. Assembly was easy enough, but as it turns out, one of the planks on my unit was warped, and that meant that the drilled hole in the plank didn't line up with the hole in the frame. I had to enlarge the hole in the plank using a drill in order to get the screw assembly to find the hole in the frame. The screws themselves don't drill into wood, but rather into a steel sleeve. There's a lot of quality in that design, but it does mean that all the holes need to line up if screw is going to meet the sleeve coming in on the other side. Overall, very excited and can't wait to get this planter filled with tomatoes, peppers and basil.
Nice planter overall - easy to assemble but could use more paint
The planter is nice overall. It was easy to assemble in a reasonable amount of time. The finished product is sturdy and holds dirt well. The materiasl could be of a higher quality. A few boards were slightly warped. Several boards were covered with a thin coat of paint that detracts from the overall quality. I suspect that the planter will last a few seasons. I will likely paint it next year. Overall, I would recommend it.
Looks Nice
The final product looks nice and is a good height for standing while working at the planter. Assembly was mostly easy, accept some of the long boards were not perfectly straight so after I secured one end with its screw, then the opposite end was not lined up with its hole in the metal leg. Luckily, I could just flip that long board end over end to secure it in place without needing to move the other long boards I had already installed. I also wish the box it arrived in gave recommended quantity of dirt that fills the planter. I ended up putting about 4 cubic feet of dirt in leaving 2-3 inches of space at the top. I planted some flower seeds, water regularly, and wait for growth. Time will tell how the planter drains with a heavy rain. Hopefully with the help of my son, we can carry the planter with dirt undercover at the end of the season to protect it during the winter.
Beautiful, easy to assemble raised bed box.
This planter goes great in my front garden. The elevated design makes caring for my plants very easy.
Quality made raised planter box
Cedarcraft has designed and created an attractive and functional raised planter box. The steel powder coated legs are sharp looking and sturdy. The Canadian spruce wood used to create the box sides is sustainable. My planter box is the brown color. The interior base consists of several pieces that drop into place easily. A fabric mesh is provided to keep the soil from escaping. The planter looks great on our patio and will help us grow tomatoes this summer. For now, I’ve set some flowers inside. I really like that this planted box is elevated and easy on my back and neck.
Picture lies
The pictures show the garden bed with a greenhouse cover, but was not included in the box. Hopeful it was an error and we can get one and then I will change the review.
Nice size for my small patio.
Instructions were very unclear!!
My gardening class bought a CederCraft Self Watering Planter. This was my first time building a planter. I was not pleased with how the instructions were set up. I had many questions about the planter. It was hard for me to screw them into the wood. There were no holes already put into the wood. Which was hard on my hands and gave me a blister. After getting the planter put together it wasn't sturdy, this product is a no for me. I would not buy this product again.
First raised bed planter
Wife didn’t care for the rough texture, but I knew what it was when I ordered it as a gift.
It didn't come with any instructions
Returned
Wrong sized and not enough hardware included. Plus, this planter was just plain ugly. The outside of the planter was the rough, splintery side of the boards.
Cedarcraft Elevated Spruce Planter
My experience was totally different from the negative reviews I read, but having read the reviews, I would not have risked this purchase except at the clearance price. I bought two units. All parts were included, it assembled easily (2 people), the cracks in the bottom were just wide enough to allow rain to drain through, the landscaping fabric kept the dirt from falling through, and I think the units are very attractive. I used Jungle Green to fill them. I put 1 1/2 large bags per planter (about 3 cubic feet each). Each planter could have held two large bags, but I chose not to fill them that much. I do not know how durable they will be as an outside planter, but right now I am very happy with them and have winter vegetable shoots sprouting up already. I have recommended the planter to other patio gardeners I know.
Poor quality, extremely wobbly
great looking planter, but the floor is a bunch of plasthc trays with gaps between them. you have to use landscape fabric to keep dirt from falling through (was missing from my package). the planter is really wobbly too from the poor tolerance of the boards and small screws. might last me a year before it breaks..
Frustrated.
It would have been easy to assemble IF all the holes had been predrilled the same size. The bolts that are supplied fit only half of the holes.
I haven't set this up as yet (still boxed in garage) but it looks good and the price was right
Good try
Could be attractive and functional but wrong parts included. Needed washes and wing nuts to better do the job. Fell apart as was.
Pretty but problems
Between my mom and I, we purchased a total of 4 planters. They had been advertised on Krazy Coupon Lady for half off the reg. price. (If you don't know Krazy Coupon Lady...she rocks!!) Well, unfortunately all 4 units are missing a critical piece. (I've emailed the company who thankfully included customer service info in the package. I will update my review once I hear back about their solution.) Also, I may have missed it in the description, but although the trays will hold water, there are spaces between the trays and the water will drain out the botttom of the planter. Would be great in dirt, but would make a mess on patios. Plus-side...it's a really pretty planter! I love the rustic look! Can't recommend at this time, but fingers crossed for a solution from the company. Stay tuned.
Best planter Ever
This is an awesome container. Yes it is a little shaky moving it when full of water and yes it’s not the easiest to put together but I have NEVER had flowers grow better than in this container. I have an apartment where they go a week without watering and they were never dry and that is in full sun. My pic is after one week with no watering after filling it up and it is still wet and the flowers are doing great. Ordering two more this year!
