I bought this globe as a decorative piece for a home office. The color tones work well with the wood furnishings as long as it is turned off. I was not necessarily excited about the non-discrete electric cord since I falsely assumed that it had a battery (a cord was not shown in the product pictures). In hindsight, I would probably purchase regular/non-illuminated globe.
