Poorly designed. A pain to use.

This gate is solidly made. And that's where the positives end. It's more expensive than alternatives, so I expected a decent product. Unfortunately, the latch mechanism is a real pain to use. It gets stuck often and is very difficult to operate with one hand, which is critical if you're trying to get through while carrying a baby (a frequent occurrence for a baby gate). The height tolerance for each side is small, and the multi-piece gate complicates the process of getting it aligned.

Incredibly hard to install. Ended up not working because of the moulding. Wouldn’t swing all the way. It’s sitting in the closet. Bought something else.

Keep track of those tiny set screws! I lost both of mine somehow between opening the package and needing them. The gate works fine--second one I've bought.

Broken and not in the original packaging

The gate arrived in what was clearly not the original box, but a hastily taped together flat box. In fact, you can even see part of the original box was cut out to use for the address label. Worse yet, both parts of the gate were severely bent and scuffed along every surface.

Pros: steel construction, latch will be impossible for any infant or toddler to open Cons: cheap hardware that easily strips, latch is often impossible for my older children to open, and is even very difficult for the adults

Latch was aggravating and instructions weren't clear

The Stairway Special Safety Gate was easy to install and works great. Ordering online and having it shipped directly to my house was an extra bonus.

While this is a bare bones safety gate it has been strong and reliable. I have no regrets in purchasing it. I appreciate the metal construction and the toned down design. It’s nice not having a bottom bar because it screws into the wall. Only thing that would make this thing better were if the latch system could just be pulled into place instead of having to lift it.

The end product gate looks excellent and I would buy it again. But I did have a few problems. First, the set screws that fix the gate width stripped and I had to use a pair of zip ties to fix gate wide. Direction 5 is poor. I put the gate on upside down. I put the wall latch assembly at the bottom instead of the top. I corrected these by using the picture on the box. Don't through the box away. You'll need the picture to not make the mistakes I made. But I love the end product. Looks nice and durable

Easy to install and easy for parents to open but not kids. Sturdy too. We use it at the top of the steps. Works well.
