AP-XL perfect size for a 20oz Yeti Tumbler

I have not used my Keurig in over a year!

Disappointing mess, needs flow control cap

This could be easily get 5 stars, if Aeropress would bother to release working parts. There is a silly, wild amount of leakage through the cap while pouring and stirring, a magnitude moreso than the original aeropress, where it wasn’t a major issue.

XL - Drips through Fast

It is possible that the coffee was not ground fine enough as I wasn't the one who ground it but it should have been medium/fine. Assuming it did get ground correctly, it drips way to fast. The instructions say stir for 10 sec but by the time I finished stirring and got the plunger in I was already down to the 4 from the 8 so the 1st cup wasn't even pressed. In the video it only drips out about a 1 on the chamber so having it drip 4 times that was surprising. I would get the flow control accessory but it isn't available for the XL. I would recommend getting the standard size and the flow control and if you want more than one cup just go through the process again. Can't speak to the quality of the brew compared to other methods because I didn't really get to have the Aeropress experience. :(

Very Impressed

I've had an espresso machine, French press, Moka Express and now this Aeropress XL. I'm not going to say one is better than the other in regard's to making a good cup of coffee as once dialled in they all make great coffee. What I really like about the Aeropress is how easy it is the travel with as it's virtually unbreakable and packs away into a nice little bag. Really can't fault it. I really don't know how people use the smaller models as I use the whole XL capacity for a single cup. Must be heaps of different brewing styles. Macpac was great to. Think it was around $40 cheaper than everyone else and it arrived in a few days. Highly recommend!!!!

The Aeropress I didn't know I didn't need (Aeropress XL)

I have a classic Aeropress and like it tons. I thought because of the smaller capacity I was missing out on something. But to be totally honest, the Aeropress XL is absoluitely not better for making bigger brews *IF* you are OK with the bypass brewing method (concentrate brew, then add hot water after - like an Americano). I tried a 35g brew this morning at same grind size I use for my regular Aeropress (#5 on Fellow Ode G2) to brew a full cup (no bypass method). The coffee was "fine" but could definetely taste something off/different about it. I discovered after doing the same weight brew with the classic aeropress (bypass method) it was much better - I couldn't pinpoint exact tasting notes but I'd say it was smoother and sweeter than the XL. And this goes along with some info I've read about the Aeropress in general - making a "full size" brew does not work as well as a bypass brew. Something else that's striking - it's *much* taller and harder to press than the smaller one - I am 6'1" 230 and had to exert significantly more effort - I did it on kitchen counter (taller) so maybe if I tried on a table it would be same-same based on center of gravity, etc? I do a two-hand press (weight of my arms only) and there was more resistance than the smaller one overall - there was more water in the XL and more air so maybe that's it. I like it, and maybe it would work great for making 8 cups to share (bypass method) but had I been able to test one first, I wouldn't have bought it. Also, I don't like the stand for the XL - I bought two stands (they're identical) since they were on sale - one for the regular and one for the XL - the XL plunger gasket is slightly larger than the hole for the resting part, so it doesnt enter cleanly and tilting it to make it enter is fiddly so the stand tends to wobble/difficult to put back - removing no issue - had the hole for the plunger side been 1mm bigger diameter it would be fine. The stand is awesome for the regular one. And it makes the aeroproess feel more professional somehow. IMHO if you have a standard aeropress there's no need to get the XL *IF* you like the bypass brewing method, you're not really gaining anything. In fact, you can't make a small evening cup of joe (ex: 12g/200g) with it as well as the little guy. You really need 20+ grams of coffee to brew correctly with it. TLDR; it doesn't taste better if you try to brew a "full cup" vs the regular aeropress using bypass method to obtain same size beverage.

My new aeropress XL

It’s my fault… I should’ve done my research. I assumed the aeropress XL had a flow control filter cap like the regular one; it does not, so unless you do the inverted method, water rushes right through the grounds even if you do the medium fine grind as they suggest. I purchased two aeropress XL units, but since one was a gift for someone new to aeropress I returned it. I thought it would be great, because this friend happens to like big mugs of coffee. However, I didn’t want to subject my friend to the hassles of the inversion method right from the get-go, especially since the flavor is not as good as I get with my regular size using the flow control filter cap. So until there is a flow control cap made for the XL model, I can’t recommend the XL wholeheartedly. Get the standard size with a flow control cap, and just be prepared to make lots of rounds of coffee if you’re making for more than one person.

A Coffee Lover's Hope for Improvement

I recently purchased an AeroPress XL and a metal filter, and was quite disappointed with how poorly designed the coffee brewing process is with the metal filter. Later, I discovered the inverted method (which the company doesn't recommend), used by nearly all world AeroPress brewing champions. This became my saving grace, so my review won't be entirely negative. Overall, my experience with the AeroPress has been very positive, and I like the product.

Love

Great. I didn't want the fuss, massive expense and countertop space that a proper coffee machine takes up. This gives the perfect cup every time without grittiness of a French press, and so easy to clean! Granted we use very high quality Colombian coffee that we love, this product isn't a miracle worker an won't turn mediocre coffee into anything else! Took a bit of experimenting but I prefer the inverted method & steep for 1 min. You can easily YouTube the different brewing methods. Worth the purchase. Be aware you'll have to source correctly-sized replacement filters from a specialty shop, as compatible XL filters aren't that common to find.

A unique and delicious way to enjoy coffee

I don’t consider myself a coffee connoisseur or anything of the like. But I do like to make my own and either have a batch of cold brew I make or do French press in the morning. When I heard about what the Aeropress does and how it changes the cup of coffee you get I was intrigued enough to try it. I’m glad I did. The coffee produced by the Aeropress is indeed way different. It is much less bitter and pulls out the fruity elements that feel like they were buried when I brewed the coffee in other ways. I honestly think it has a nicer mouth feel too, like the oils were pulled out as well. The actual process is not difficult and feels second nature after a few brews. If you’re at all curious, give it a try.

Next level brew!

The Aeropress XL is my first product from Aeropress. I have always been fascinated with these but never took the plunge. After decades of being a French press guy, I wanted to give it shot. I was a bit intimidated in my recipe/process research, but once it arrived at my door, I got to work and was having fun making delicious, clean coffee in no time. The clarity is immediately noticeable. For so long, I'd stop drinking coffee once my stomach couldn't take it, but with the Aeropress, I still have the tall, dark, strong coffee I love but it's so drinkable and enjoyable. Zero grit. This all has me reaching for another session and another experiment! Last but not least, it is incredibly easy to clean. Seconds instead of minutes compared to the French press.

Best brewer: No contesr

I have been brewing and drinking coffee for 65 years. I have used or tried every type of coffee maker extant. And that includes some espresso machines in Italy during a visit to Europe some years ago. Without reservation I shall truthfully state that the AeroPress makes the finest cup of coffee I have ever had the pleasure of drinking. It is coffee that truly tastes like coffee smells and that is the Holy Grail of a cup of coffee. AeroPress allows the full flavor of the coffee to come through without any bitterness or acidity. It is remarkable.

Original is the bomb, XL less impressive.

I have owned an AuroPress Original for years and through many moves. It is compact, a pleasure to use and doesn't require electricity. I use it daily and love the results.

Not bad, but definitely different than a standard AP

I was hesitant to try an XL after using a standard size AP clear for some time, which I Love. I know the inventor, Alan Adler, chose not to market a larger AP because none of the prototypes he tested were able to consistently deliver the same results as the standard size. Personally, I think he just found the sweet spot with the original size. The brew dynamics are just different, and have to be accounted for when deciding your brew parameters. However, new company management decided to expand the line, so I’ve been curious. So recently, I decided to give the XL a try.

Efficient and Great Quality

The Aeropress was quick and easy to use, I definitely recommend:) Even though it will eventually be solely used during camping and travel, my partner and I have been using it for about two weeks now since we just bought a home and most of our appliances (and everything else considering we're trying to be minimalistic right now) are in a storage unit. This has been honestly the perfect thing for a simple and quick coffee. While you normally only get a single serving of coffee each use in their standard size, we get plenty of coffee for the two of us per serving, and it’s easy to travel with and quick to use. It's simple to use: add in your coffee beans/grounds, pour over some hot water, and then let it sit for a moment to brew while you keep yourself busy (e.g. pack my lunch for work, walk my dog, prepare my breakfast, etc.). It's easy to carry with you, my partner has taken it to work twice for his daily second dose of coffee so he doesn't have to share a coffee pot with his associates, and the flavor results are great (for both of us haha). I've been using two filters at a time lately, I can tell a slight difference, but my partner claims that it's smoother and tastes richer, but to each their own:). Clean-up is fast, it comes with filters (which are also inexpensive when you do have to buy more), and it also comes with a recipe sheet. Despite the reimbursement opportunity that I did receive, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and efficiency of the product. I genuinely believed I was going to have to return it because it wouldn't work or wouldn't meet quality expectations, or even that it would never get used. I was proven wrong, and I'm not even upset about it. Hope this helps everyone:)

Truly amazing

Having been the owner of countless coffee machines and coffee making devices, I was skeptical about the AeroPress. I kept reading reviews about how it compared to regular coffee makers, French press, pour-overs, etc and this device always came out on top. Having finally ordered it and used it, I now know why. The simplicity might make you suspect but the result will convince you otherwise. Really for the first time I can actually taste more than just the overwhelming flavors that come through with other methods. I can taste the subtle flavors that were intended. Order it, use it, experiment with it, enjoy it. The only downside you will feel is the regret it took you so long to discover it! That, and the money you spent on all the other devices soon to be relegated to the back of pantry!

Really pleased so far

I got this because my brother-in-law and sister are great at coffee and have used an Aeropress for a while and recommend it. We wanted something we could use for travel plans that we have in the future so we can have great coffee on the go.

No Returns - If You Don't Like It - It's Still Yours

Without going into too much detail, the "drip through" when following the as-written instruction is just so much that more than a quarter of the water flows through in the stir time. This occurs even when adding filters and only stops when you get the plunger in place to create a vacuum lock. Bottom line, the coffee I was able to make never really reached a strength I was happy with regardless of grind size or speed of operation (again, speed was the only thing that reduced the drip through substantially). Because of this, making the coffee was not relaxing and resulted in a decent flavored, but too weak coffee.

Overpriced

I have the regular unit, payed less than half the price, and it's a little too small for a typical 12 oz. mug..and you have to double the filter to slow the drain through. While yes, if you take a couple extra steps (not in the instructions) you can make a decent cup of coffee, it's ridiculous to charge this much, for what it is and what it's made of, and you only get a plastic carafe as an "extra". One is too small, this one is too big. And yes, after purchasing the smaller one, purchasing this just to get an extra cup, at twice the price, is ******. Better designing, and selling a carafe and/or nicer glasses would have been the better choice. It's fast enough you don't NEED a double sized product to make two mugs and it's STILL faster than the average KCup machine.

Long awaited, exceeded expectations by a long shot

Why did Aeropress wait so long to bring out the XL? I presumed it was because prototypes proved that it would not function as well as the standared size Aeropress. Not so.
