Reviews

This is a surprisingly good product--it's heavy duty, easy to assemble (though it takes a couple of hours). My only concern is how fragile the veneer along the front edge of the top is--I had to reinforce one edge that started to separate. The edge of any product will start to see wear first, and we had to handle this a lot during assembly. . Overall, this thing is sold. It's made well, the holes all lined up, the cabinet doors are straight, and they have soft-close hinges. I am surprised how straightforward assembly was. It's a good compromise between the standard IKEA fare and something solid and expensive.

Surprisingly good

This sideboard is surprisingly good for being made of MDF and veneers. It's heavy, solid, and will likely last, with a minor exception. It does not look like the typical IKEA build-it-yourself furniture--it's definitely much higher quality. It was packed well, and the flaws/scratches in the veneer were very minor. My only complaint is that the front edge of the top has a very thin veneer along the edge that is easily damaged. I had to glue it down on one corner so it would stay attached to the front edge, and it's likely going to show wear over time without care...but I know solid wood furniture shows wear on the edges here first, as well.

Overall low quality item. There is nothing wrong with Walmart or target furniture (at all) - but this is the grade of furniture that I would associate with an in store purchase from that type of retail merchant. Low grade particleboard with low grade veneer lament. This item would be totally acceptable if it was priced accordingly. But for the price of this item on this site - it’s completely and utterly overpriced. . . The white glove delivery service was challenging as the on-site delivery/assembly personnel did not speak English. This was difficult as they were experiencing problems assembling the unit and could not clearly communicate the issue to me. I could see that they were unable to get the unit to become stable and it’s two legged base was wobbling, it would shift to the right and left when touched. This also caused the door panels to not close evenly - not to mention the shifting back and forth of the piece. This may have been due to a defective unit or inexperienced onsite assembly crew. Don’t get me wrong, this thing had a lot of pieces and hardware - i don’t think I would have done any better - but that’s not my skill set. . . I ultimately refused the item. . . If your expectation/need is a lower grade item - this may be acceptable if the price was $ 500-600. If used for real estate sales staging/decor - perhaps it might be okay. I would not consider this durable for everyday /longterm normal use. . . Shipping company was very efficient and the commutation with the back office was very good. The only drawback was the non-English speaking delivery/setup/assembly personnel. . . There are reviews for the same Alvarado line - but different pieces. I wish I would have read those before ordering as their reviews seem to align with my experience (pretty poor reviews). The one 5 star review for this item is shocking- makes me question its authenticity because 5 stars is so opposite my experience - and I consider myself a pretty easy going and reasonable. . . Buying online can be tricky - for sure, but, I would most definitely not recommend this item. . . Derek . Scottsdale AZ

Delivery was easy - The moving company called to arrange a drop off window, and they showed up right on time. Note: The piece comes in 3 seperate boxes... that's good news for anyone who is concerned about getting a 230 lb piece of furniture in to their home. My husband just loaded 1 box at a time on to a dolly, took it in to the living room, and assembled it right there. . . It took quite a bit of work to put it together - but the instructions were good and all the pieces were numbered. . . I was a little nervous about buying something this big on line, but I am very happy with my purchase. The Alvarado looks even better in person than it does in the photos. It goes perfectly with my mid-century mod home - but could work just as well for contemporary and coastal decor. This piece is exceptionally well made - very solid and very heavy. This is a true credenza - not a media console. The back is nicely finished and there are no holes for cables. This was critical for me, as the back might be visible depending on how I arrange my living room. . . All in all - I am very pleased. I got a great product at a very decent price. (excellent service too!)
