Delivery on the right date, but was box horrible, 2-boxes of 6 half gallon were perfect. packed safe. then someone put the next 6 all in one huge box where the lid would not even close down. they used tape to attempt to close the top lids. was alot of money for someone to be so careless packing canning jars. Share on them. did not put them next to the house, was 3-4 ft. from the house in the drive.
Best glass containers ever! Multipurpose!
I rid my home of all plastic some time ago and only use clear glass for everything from dishes to storage containers. These jars are the fifth order I have made and I am thrilled (they were on sale too!) Great for not only canning, but storing dried goods, freezing soups and other items (make sure to get the ones that go straight down at the top, not the curvy ones). Reusable, washable, perfect!
Great for use as canisters
I have no idea whether these are tempered in order to be used for actual canning.
Everyone knows Mason Jars are and have been a staple item for generations. This is about my negative purchasing experience with seller Decarin. These are 64oz jars sold in packs of 6. You can get at WalMart for $16.44. Decarin advertised these as a 2 pack (12 jars) for $23.99. I purchased and they delivered only 1 pack of 6. When I contacted Decarin they replied that it was purchased as a 1 pack of 6. So beware. This was actually my first TEMU purchase. I looked up the company that represents Decarin. It’s located in some Province in China. Communication took awhile for them to respond. I will learn from this $27 + lesson. -East Tennessee USA.
Not the Wide Mouth They Used To Be
I have been canning and using Mason jars since the mid 80's. Back then a wide mouth jar was honestly a wide mouth, the opening as WIDE as the jar. These are not, they are not the narrow openings so it helps that the opening is bigger but they are not true wide mouth jars. I guess I will continue purchasing WIDE MOUTH jars from yardsales and online sales sites.
Do NOT buy these online!
Do NOT buy these intent to have them shipped, if you're disabled try to find a friend or family member who can buy them from the store.
Shipping
Product is great when packaged correctly and marked fragile or glass. When ordering from competitor that’s what you get. Walmart, hardly any package material and no markings. Broken glass jars also on replacement. Then you’ll be asked to handle the broken glass and ship it back to them. I try to support Walmart and not always buy from Amazon. Save yourself all this time and headache and order these from them.
Ball has been a staple brand forever in many families homes. I had the idea of pickling my own okra because my girlfriend has always talked about her grandmother canning items since she was a little girl. Ball is easy to use and super durable. These big ones are very easy to clean. I'm excited to continue using Ball in my canning adventures.
1/2 gallon size jars
I bought these for 3 different people for their birthday along with the gadget that sits on top of it and seals the lid. I forgot what it’s called but it’s so neat. The jars are a half a gallon size. They are for things like potato chips, spaghetti, or any kind of noodles, beans, anything you want to keep fresh after opening it. I think it’s a great gift. Wouldn’t mind them for myself.
Great price, got them for cold brew coffee
I was looking for a cold brew coffee system, %26 the ones O found at another place, all said the jars were breaking. So i decided to get actual canning jars instead of ones that just looked like canning jars. Walmart to the rescue. I got a filter %26 a lid with a spit spout %26 handle at the other big online ordering place. They got perfectly on these jars. I brew another one while I'm drinking from one. I also keep my coffee beans in some of the jars %26 vacuum seal them with a jar attachment. So, not just for canning. There are many things you can store in these large glass jars, %26 vacuum seal them to keep them fresh between uses.
Not what they used to be.
Thru no fault of Walmart these jars are like most everything else nowadays, 'Not what they used to be'. The glass is much thinner and the lids/rings are of cheap metal. Due to the Ball company no longer placing dividers between each jar before shipping most of them have small chips and/or scratches into the glass which make them useless for anything other than dry storage. The half gallon jars cannot be used for canning anyway, but all sizes of the Ball jars arrive in the same condition so check each one very carefully before using for water bath, pressure canning or freezing.
Jars are great! Packaging and shipping not so much
The jars are what you would expect from Ball - nice quality. However, they were shipped in an oversize box with only one piece of packaging paper to protect them. They arrived with one of the jars shattered and four other ones marred/dinged from whatever impact they endured. I need to use the ones that survived, so I don't have time to make a return and wait for a replacement. Come on Wal-Mart - if you are going to make glass items available for shipping, make the effort to protect them in transit.
Great canning jars.
Ball canning jars are consistently well made. the galf gallon size is great! (Think three teenage boys and a Dad that was a hard worker) These jars are very versatile. I've used them as a freezer jar, canning jar and for dry goods like flour. and sugar. They seal tight, no bugs or humidity issues. Love them, plus NO PLASTIC!!
These are a great storage solution.
They’re not fragile like some glass storage containers. I’ve bumped them against each other accidentally and one even fell off the counter and crashed to the floor, no harm done. Probably few people would can in such large jars, but as storage for cereals, cat food, crackers, nuts and packages of specialty flours I even have one in the fridge keeping lemons fresh longer. They’re big enough you can get your whole hand in there to wash all the way to the bottom. No need to sterilize if you’re not canning, but I made sure to wash them in warm soapy water and then boil them for a half hour (one at a time is all that fit in the pot) because my water is iffy. I wish I hadn’t bought all those plastic containers that don’t really hold an airtight seal against bugs and humidity, and that mice can chew through. I expect to use these over and over for years, just buying new lids and rings. You can also get plastic screw top lids but they’re not as tight a seal. Think of the sun tea you could make in one, Also the box has all the instructions for two kinds of canning, and these come with a recipe for apple juice that would keep for months if you do everything right. I’d like to get two more sets of six so I could have an attractive lineup at the back of my countertop. These make me happy and I highly recommend.
Love these!
With all the baking during the holidays all the bags of different flavors of baking chips, nuts, dried fruits, etc. were piled high and falling all over the counter top whenever I opened the doors. I decided to try using these extra large jars. I didn’t even know they came this large! I also bought an air remover for the tops to keep the food fresher. Works great. So glad I did this. When not being used during the holidays for the baking items I plan on using them in the regular pantry for chips, rice, oatmeal, etc. I will be buying more of this size and also using my wide mouth canning jars in quart sizes for other food storage. I have canned for years, although not as much as I get older, but never thought of using these for storage! Can store more items in an organized and handy way. Plus you can see immediately how much you have on hand so it’s much easier to know when to reorder! Love it!
Poor quality
I purchased these jars back in April and I’ve been using them to store my bone broth that I would make at home. They’ve worked fine up until this week, when I made a fresh batch of broth. I poured the broth into a glass measuring cup and from there into the jar. As I was pouring the broth into the jar, the jar exploded and my two year old son walked up to me and the counter right as it exploded and the hot broth dumped right onto his face and body. The left side of his face turned bright red and started blistering. Thankfully it wasn’t anymore severe and it didn’t require an emergency visit. My heart breaks for my baby. I don’t understand how this could happen. We cook with glass all the time, in the oven, with hot water and never before has glass exploded like this. I’m bringing the rest of the jars back to Walmart.
Great Jars to Have on Hand
I LOVE these half gallon mason jars. With today's uncertainties, I like to plan ahead for food preservation. Pair these jars with an electronic jar sealer and you are set! Great for storing dry goods like beans, rice, macaroni, contents from opened cans of dehydrated foods. Just pour into the mason jar and seal and food is preserved for rainy day. Mason jars are better protection than mylar, in regards to rodents.
Packaging fail
I ordered 2 cases of these jars. First box came in and 1 case was completely broke shattered so bad it was falling out of the box that was still taped. I called and Target was very easy to get a replacement sent out. So I waited a week and the replacement arrived broken as well. I didn't get home till late that night so I didn't even try to order another replacement. I'm just irritated that there was absolutely no protection in the box with a glass order. I know it probably broke from fed ex handling but there wasn't packing bubbles, no Styrofoam protection not even the brown wrapping paper to help take the brunt of the handling. So if you order these be aware that it's probably not going to be packaged properly.
Best for groceries arranging too
I use these mason jar bottles to store groceries. I number them . It’s easy to see the quantity of thing’s inside. My pantry looks organized and I’m happy with my purchase. I got 32 oz as well as 64 oz. Glass is better than plastic for long time food storage. . Walmart price is excellent. The canning lids are ok for me. But if anyone wants a solid lid , that’s available too.
Ball quality with a Walmart price
So happy that these came back into stock. Walmart's price on these can't be beat. Other stores were asking double for these.
