Very happy

These are the nicest bookcases I have ever had. We normally buy the cheapest possible, and they've lasted decently. We had the money to buy the bundle of this bookcase, and I could not be happier. The assembly was straightforward, the instructions were clear and precise, the hardware was a good quality, and the whole bookcase overall is sturdy.

nice bookcase.

nice piece. it is tall. Biggest issue is delivery. They come damaged and its a very long, heavy box you have to bring back to Walmart. There's no Fed Ex pickup available for return. you need 2 strong people to lift it or one very strong guy and a special cart to roll it back into the store. like the flatbed type carts. its a pain to return. Cubbies generously sized and can hold tall books.

Less than 2yrs, having veneer issue

Ordered two bookcases in August 2017. Product works well and has proven sturdy while holding my books for the price. I alone assembled 2 b-cases by my lonesome, with a well-charged electric Phillips drill. The only problem currently is the veneer on the face of the top molding has begun to bubble and peel. The product has a 5 year warranty. I am seeking a replacement part for the molding. I will report back my experience - please stay tune

Stunning bookcase!

First of all it’s a gorgeous bookcase!!! I got the matching desk and my new home office is now practical, trendy, and just flat out gorgeous!!! I get the most compliments on this once piece. The directions were easy enough to follow, I did need some help toward the end to stand the piece up and then move it to the perfect spot. The one thing is the tags for the file look white in the picture but the ones that came were yellow which I did not like so I just cute white labels to size, super simple fix! It was slightly more that I originally wanted to spend, but it was well worth it and I am extremely happy with the bookcase!

Shipping and quality

Shipped on time but when arrived all three of the long pieces were broken down the middle and had to be thrown away. Sauder was very good about shipping replacement pieces (5 more days) and when those arrived they were chipped but usable.

Very Disappointed in this product

My bookcase arrived today, and it pretty much looks as advertised. The quality is comparable to the price, and the ash-grey color is really good looking.

better choices

There are better and cheaper choices in bookshelves. This version is wider than most but it is relatively low quality. I found it hard to assemble and not all the pieces seemed to match. That could be due to the confusing instructions. The material is pressed wood with oak veneer - no solid wood pieces. The middle of the bookshelf does not have any lateral bracing to keep the sides from bowing out, so I put one on. If it was not such a pain to return, I would have. Unless you need the width, check for other bookshelves...

Very pleased with this purchase!

This bookcase was easy to put together, and each step included a video demonstration in case you were having trouble. I did not view any of the videos, but it was nice to know they were available. The cardboard back of the bookcase lined up well and the preset holes allowed me to nail it into place without damaging any of the shelves, which was my biggest concern. I easily assembled the entire bookcase by myself, and my husband helped me stand it upright and move it into place, as it is almost too heavy for me alone. I chose the salt oak finish and am very pleased with it. Overall the bookcase seems quite sturdy and looks more expensive than it was. I bought two of these shelves, and although they do not stand side by side because of the molding, they look very nice filled with books and set about 6 feet apart with a side table between them. If solid wood bookshelves or built-in units are beyond your budget, then I recommend these as a good substitute.

Sauder Barrister Tall Bookshelf

I wanted to like this bookshelf. It came fast but...nicks and dents in the pressboard where joints meet. Instructions could have been much easier with a little more common sense. It took much longer to put together because of the unclear instructions. The cubbies are very shallow so be careful what size book you want to put in them. I have some photo books that do not fit. There is an edge across the front with the labels that limits how your books fit. You either can put your book behind the edge or you lay your book over the edge. I did not put on the back because that futher shortened the depth I needed for my photo albums.

I love the salt oak collection - this is a nice sturdy piece that looks more expensive than it is.

Bookcase arrived damaged

I have been waiting over a week with parts all over the floor, waiting for a replacement part that was damaged when it arrived. So far, the instructions for assembly are unclear and the assembly process has been trial and error. Some parts are marked clearly. Some are not. For example: Some boards are marked with a printed sticker on the face of the board. Others have an ink stamp on the non-veneer edge of the board which is hard to see because of the wood texture.

Nice for the price

Had a tough time deciding between this unit and a similar bookcase that cost $1000. Glad I saved my money, this bookcase is actually pretty nice for $179. Came with a few dents and scratches in the finish, most of which are not in noticeable places. Went together easily, but be careful with the top and bottom moldings as it takes patience to match up the mitered corners. If you want to place heavy items on the shelves, beware that the load limit per cubby is 25 lbs. and that nothing should be placed on the top of the unit (according to the assembly instructions). Instructions also warned that the back of the unit (basically a large sheet of cardboard) must be nailed on or the shelves could collapse. So, don't buy this unit if you want to place stuff on the very top or like a see-through-to-the-wall look because these shelves can't be used that way safely.
