This is a favorite for our birds. I put this new one on our back deck railing. To our surprise the little briwn birds are flocking to it.
Tough and Capable
the non-bird critters in my area can be hard on my bird baths but this one stands up to the deer and racoons just fine. I'd give it 5 stars but i wish the mounting bracket was adjustable. I know it says it's for decks but some of us have smaller railings. It's a minor gripe for a great heated bird bath.
Originally purchased with black iron stand ....
I purchased this over 8-10 yrs. ago as a stand model (stand rusted @ the bottom) but I found a 35 gal. barrel & 1-1/2" pipe insulation to keep water from falling/freezing in barrel ... it lasted WELL over the 8+ yrs. About 4-5 yrs. ago (being proactive & the $ was on Sale @ $39.99) I saw the sale on only the birdbath, I've kept until now when I needed to replace my old one! I again placed atop the same barrel - ALL birds flocked to it, in MINUTES - I have it sitting outside all year long, year after year, after year! LOVE IT!! (no to the stand tho)
birdbath nice, bracket lousy
The birdbath is spacious and heats up nicely. The bracket that is supposed to attach to the porch railing is cheaply made and does not hold the birdbath. We ended up putting the birdbath on another birdbath base.
Good heated bath
Purchased as replacement for same bird bath which has done well in subfreezing temperatures. My only concern is that the bath seems deep compared to some other baths. Only larger birds (blue jay) have I seen taking a bath, but all will drink.
Attracts a variety of birds in winter (and year round)
I bought this 5+ years ago at Gardeners' Supply Co, and I am very happy with it. I have mine in a frame near the ground rather than on a deck. In the winter it attracts cardinals, juncos, blue jays, finches, even downy woodpeckers. It attracts more birds than my suet in the winter; fresh water is hard to find. I unplug it the other three seasons, and need to scrub every now and then to remove algae.
[Rewarded Review] Very satisfied
A seemingly identical model was added to our north deck almost 25 years ago, and I now am replacing it. We are north of Green Bay. Even with the 'polar vortex' of a few winters ago, it never froze up. Many varieties of winter creatures will find the open water for a drink when everything else is frozen over. The photo was taken on a January late afternoon through our kitchen window.
Winter season birdbath
It keeps the water thawed without heating it.
Keeps the birds hydrated
I bought mine October 2018 and it's still keeps the water from freezing and the stand is very sturdy too, the only problem is the squirrels try to jump into the bowl causing the "easy tilt" feature to work. The bird bath bowl tilts until most of the water spills out. Many times I have have found my birdbath bowl angled in a tilted position with 2/3rd's of the water missing and I was concerned the heating element would burn out with no water in the bowl to heat. Sometimes several larger birds like crows or starlings would try to get into the birdbath at the same time and cause the easy tilt action to kick in. If this birdbath could somehow be stabilized to "not tilt" when weight is on the rim then I'd give this product a perfect 5 star rating but I'm ready to remove it from my yard and switch to different model birdbath altogether, I'm getting a second ground level birdbath model because they are stable. Its too bad I don't have a deck to attach this to since it sounds like a lot of people have good luck with this type of mount. In my opinion this birdbath needs a redesign if it's going to be mounted on the pedistal that comes with it. The heating element on the otger hand works great and has kept the water from freezing in the subzero temperatures we have in the
Birds Love Their Hot Tub!!
I live in Massachusetts where winters can sometimes be quite severe. This birdbath is wonderful. It was 1° out yesterday (windchill of -18°) and the water was perfect for the birds to drink. Has a rim of frost (looks like sugar on a margarita!) but the smaller birds dont seem to mind. Some of them utilize the stone I put in the middle to perch on.
Good price on heated birdbath
I placed this API 20' heated birdbath out on a sturdy ring shaped plant stand about 12" in diameter that cleared the tilt mechanism built into the bottom of the bath. I knew ahead of time it wouldn't clamp on the odd shaped plastic railing on our condo deck. I put some non-skid rubber shelf liner in four quadrants on the ring shaped plant stand so the birdbath wouldn't skid in wind or from squirrels jumping on it.The temperature got down to 20 degrees F. at least a dozen nights since installed. Water stayed liquid. It took a few days for birds to discover or trust it. I installed it about 20 feet out from the deck at the border between our new condo lawn and a scrabbly woods behind us. I also have several bird feeders within 15 feet of the bath. Lots of brush and tree cover for birds. So far I've only had to add/change water every 4-5 days. It may evaporate faster or be more heavily used when it gets more consistently colder. Seems easier to work with than my old standard birdbath with as separate heater that had to be held in place by a rock at our old house. I recommend this product.
Great all season birdbath
I have had a bird bath like this on a 1x6 deck railing for close to 15 years. Great for watching the birds up close. It seemed to finally be failing so I looked for another one. I recall that the original was very easy to install. It is sturdy and the EZ Tilt makes it very easy to keep clean and does not hold on to stains. I figured out that the problem with the old one may have been an interruption in electricity through no fault of the bird bath, and it has been continuing to work as well as before even in the subfreezing temperatures we've had recently. This is exactly like my older one although the metal may be a smidge thinner, but still feels solid. I think it's the nicest looking one and at a great price. I will keep keeping this new one, and was thrilled to find another.
Good idea, substandard metal bracket
My wife bought this birdbath and it is a good design, but the materials used for the metal bracket that attaches to the railing is too flimsy. Our 2x4 on top of the railing has rounded edges, so the bracket does't fit snugly. To compound the problem, the metal bracket that is used to attach the bird bath is not strong enough. I don't think it is even 16 ga. So, when the tighten down bolts are tightened, they just bend the metal up and it forces the bolts down off of the gripping plate. The gripping plate is also not wide enough because the bolts as they are tightened are just pushed off the plate. I bent the bracket to force the bolts up instead of down off of the plate and that helped, but customers shouldn't have to gimmy the thing to make it work. I wanted to make sure the bath is tight because we have high winds
Best deck purchase ever!
I bought this heated birdbath maybe ten yrs ago. Last winter the water froze and I immediately thought to myself the 10 yr old birdbath had a good run and kept a lot of birds watered and bath d over the yrs, but I had to immediately get a replacement since weather was freezing. Bought my new one and water froze in it too! Figured out quickly that the birdbath wasn't the problem, the electrical outlet was out! Ugh! So now I have two of these PERFECT birdbaths. It's been knocked off my 20 ft high deck and still worked perfectly. I feed and water thousands of birds.... and squirrels and raccoons too.... couldn't live without thisirdbath!! Even told neighbor about it and they too love theirs.
