Holds urine and smell
I purchased this to keep my shih tzu in while I was at work, and it keeps him safe and contained with no problems. My only complaint is when he has an accident it stays in the side of the pen in the grooves and the smell is impossible to get out of the plastic. I have resorted to taking it outside to hose it off every time he can't hold it and the faint pee smell is a constant.
24" Play Pen
We still have this set up in the great room. It is a good alternative to the crate and used for afternoon naps or quiet play time. I wish it was sturdier and had a firm floor which would eliminate the need to have quilted items to catch the pee so as not to destroy the carpet. I also wish it had larger disks to keep it more firmly on the floor.
Works well for small puppies
I bought this to contain six small-breed foster puppies in the kitchen during the day so that they can have room to play, but not get into trouble. It has worked well for that purpose. The day after I received it, I ordered another one for an outdoor play area. It's cumbersome to contain the little pack elsewhere while I carry by it outside myself so it has been worthwhile to have a second one. I especially like that I can link the two together for a 12 panel play yard. When used outdoors, I can pick up one side and adjust where the panels are a bit after a puppy poops to get a chance to clean it up before everyone rolls through it.
IRIS USA 6 Panel Dog Exercise Playpen with Door
This is the best! How did I ever live without it! Our current home is open concept. I needed something for the new puppy. She goes in there when we leave the house to run errands. She has an extra bed in there. We change the toys. We leave her ice cubes/water and either food or a few treats. I watch on the indoor camera and she usually goes to sleep.
Perfect Playpen
I bought this for keeping the 10 week old new puppy we just got safe and contained when I cannot keep eyes on her. This is perfect. I only needed 4 of the 6 panels for my little dog. The other 2 panels work great to prop in doorways to close off parts of our house. This is sturdy enough and I was able to break it down easily and take it to my parents house for a visit. Well worth the money.
Best playpen ever!
I have gone through 2 playpens for my Dachshund puppies. They had vinyl on the bottom and a mesh fencing. They chewed right through it. This thick plastic fencing has held up great! There's no getting out or ruining. It's light and I can pick it up and take it out in the backyard. I love it!
Serves Its Purpose
This little playpen is great for giving our puppy a little space to play while still keeping the boundaries close. We leave the door open when she’s free to come in and out, and the door closed when we need some separation. I added a small bungee cord to hold the door open. My only issue is that my little girl can climb over and escape if she’s really motivated to, and she is quite little still. We’re continuing to work on contentment and hoping that that behavior passes.
Versatile
Your satisfaction with this item will depend a lot on your dog. How big they are, how much they like to jump. My puppies are corgis. Very short and solid animals. The six sections are easy to assemble and take apart. The puppies are now a year old. I use two sections to block off a room while I open the front door. I use three or four sections to separate my animals from each other over night. This was especially important when recovering from surgery. My dogs recognize an enclosure made of these sections to be their comfort zone, and will enter and leave at will. Lightweight, so if I need to prevent the partition from being pushed aside, I will place a chair on the opposite side as a deterrent. I’m very pleased with this purchase and the portability.
Auggie
Auggie is blind and I wanted something light in color so he won't hit the edges. I actually bought it for both Auggie and Toby, but sadly Toby passed away on March 12th at age 19. He was my life for 19 years! Now Auggie enjoys it but misses Toby too!
Worked as recommended
Got this for my senior chihuahua since she was always bumping into things. It created a safe space for her when we needed it. She was 5lbs so this was perfect for her. She just passed but this was great for her during her last days. Highly recommend this for smaller dogs.
not totally happy
i knew it was plastic BUT didnt realize how flimsy it really was. at this point we are keeping it. the top of one of the pieces was completely broken off. we got it for a puppy which shouldn't get to big so it should be sufficient. the box looks like it was a return THEN retaped and sent to me. i hope that is not the case. to much of a hassle to return and wait for another one to arrive.
not for golden retriever puppy
Hi, my 9 wk old Golden Retriever puppy was placed in this for less than 15 min. so I could clean the kitchen. Evidently he vaulted out of it as he came running into the kitchen but the playpen was still standing. It would probably be appropriate for a small dog who's not expected to grow larger. So, would only recomend for that kind of animal. Also know that it's quite rickety, can fold or bend easily and has no bottom support system.
Shipment was never right
The pen itself is fine enough, but my experience with customer service has been poor. The first pen I ordered didn't come with a door. When I contacted IRIS, they told me they weren't going to send me a door because I'd "bought the model without the door." Even when I proved the model number I bought said it should come with a door. Anyway, I returned it through chewy and tried again. This time I got a door, but not enough rubber feet for the bottom of the panels. I had to reach out again and they finally sent me some. This all took weeks. Product is fine, but probably not worth the hassle.
not worth the money
I just received the play pen. First time I’ve ever been disappointed with something I ordered from Chewy. My puppy is 2lbs and can push this pen around. I hate crating puppies so I ordered this as an alternative. No way I could leave her in it over night. Was easy enough to put together just not sturdy at all, very light weight. Would not recommend for puppies, maybe a rabbit no sure.
Overall useful, except for the door.
This pen is easy to set up and relatively sturdy, but the door is very tiny and it's not that easy to open from one of the hinges if you need to use that for an alternate exit.
Great enclosure for a senior dog
I bought this playpen to keep my senior impaired vision chihuahua safe at night. A few years ago he hated being enclosed and climbed over or through anything we tried. Now, however, he absolutely loves his safe little spot. The playpen is easy to put together, very sturdy, and just the right size for my 8-lb old guy. Again, probably wouldn't work for a younger pet who can climb or jump over the sides, but perfect for our situation.
A few issues
I generally love everything from Chewy, but this is one exception. I really like the size of this pen and it's perfect for two young chihuahua puppies. We later ordered 2 extender panels and have ended up not using them for now while the pups are so small, because it makes the pen less stable. Here are the issues: it's overpriced for a cheap plastic pen (but isn't most plastic stuff?) and we really wish they would have enclosed the bottom few inches of the inside of each panel. Because puppies are not yet potty-trained, they sometimes go in the pen and the nooks and crannies of the inside of the pen walls are perfect spots for feces, urine and bacteria to thrive. It's only happened a couple of times, but because the plastic is not enclosed or covered, it makes it labor intensive to clean.
easy to put together, good material
I think this pen is great. I like the plastic compared to metal options. The plastic inside is all smooth edges so there is no way a puupy can cut themselves. I can see many areas where they can get caught up in or hurt if they are going crazy in there.
Piece of Mind at Last
Excellent for my 2 little pomeranians! Loved the EASY EASY assembly just snapped together, No tools needed. Also I just ordered 2 more panels to give them some extra space. They love having a safe place that keeps them out of trouble when I can't watch them every minute. My play pen is close to walls on 2 sides and I put a small magazine rack in front so that when they play and push into it it's bolstered and does not move, it is light weight and is not tethered to the floor. It was a Great Buy and we are very happy with it.
Get the right size
We're professional dog walkers and boarders. We're about to get this for a client who just got a pocket beagle puppy. I don't expect him to be a climber or jumper due to his breed and size. We'll attach one side of this to a wall using Command Hooks (easily removed without marring) so he can't move it around. There's another model of these that's 30" tall and connects with pins that we use at our house. We generally use 3 sections hung across a wide doorway on Command Hooks, but occasionally set it up in a pen configuration when we have a dog that needs to be confined. When we do that we also tie in a 1"x4" board across the top to give it more stability. However these are not sufficient to confine large breed or powerful dogs. For them you need a real kennel that's secured to the floor or walls and costs a few hundred dollars.
