Gorgeous box - but be careful if you plan on using it

I bought this to place on a console table in my foyer to hold m]y wallet, keys sunglasses etc. Unfortunately the lacquer chips off VERY EASILY when the lid is lifted off regularly. The result is what appears to be a very impractical or cheaply made box that is not intended to be used. I tried resolving this at the store level and hit a dead end which was far from the experience I had when I started buying JA products years ago at Barneys. It appears quality has diminished over time which is very disappointing.
