[Rewarded Review] Need to have stainless steel handle hardware inside to avoid rusting out.
I bought two of these units 2nd hand. They seem to be great units except for the hardware inside. ( Handle opening bar and assembly) Hopefully the new ones handle's are made of stainless steel because all the hardware inside rusts very badly from all their moisture emitted and stops functioning...
Great value, confusing assembly instructions
We bought this composter and its high quality materials. Instructions for assembly were a bit confusing as the diagrams were not always clear and steps not always in order.
Do NOT but this model!!
Lifetime for plastic parts, all the metal parts will corrode or rust very quickly. I bought this lifetime composter after my last one last several years and no replacement products offered. This was the new and improved version of the one I had and it's been nothing but junk since the get go. The metal locking mechanism started to show since of corrosion very earlier on. The bell crank and arms have not seized up and you can not move the handle. The product should come with a plastic tube through the middle and stainless hardware they should also design it so you can fit a wheelbarrow.
stylish but not that strong
Easy to build and looks solid. However over the summer, the lid has already shown sign of distortion and doesn't seal properly now.
[Rewarded Review] Great Product but Product but Prone to Corrosion
I have two of these compost tumblers. Assembly is a little more involved than I expected and requires a little practical nous. Once assembled it is a good product which I have used for a couple of seasons. My main complaint is that metal parts - hinges, latches, etc, are prone to corrosion and given the environment of a compost tumbler, I would have thought this to be a fitness-for-purpose issue. Assembly and operation instructions should be clear that tumbler should NOT be left with latch/hinges downward, and that metal parts be treated with a water resistant corrosion inhibitor on assembly and each season. That said, aftersales service has been excellent with Lifetime sending out replacement hinges and latches (I am in Australia).
Composts well but metal pieces corrode far too quickly.. need better quality.
Bought in 2018.. agree with other reviewers, all the metal pieces rust too quickly. Customer service has been kind and sent me some replacement parts, like the door hinge and the lid handle mechanism, but the nuts and bolts, screws, and metal plates were all so corroded they were nearly impossible to remove. I do like the shape and, with the tumbler itself being dark plastic, it does compost well.. However, the other day one of the corner connectors popped out and the contents spilled under the tumbler as it was locked in an upside down position. I now need a new tumbler but frankly I am concerned with the cheap quality of the components that actually hole it together. I am glad to know I am not the only victim of Lifetime's cheap choice of essential components!
[Rewarded Review] Issues with metal closure
I want to love this - yet, we are having similar issues as related here about the closing mechanism. Rusted and we need to use WD-40 almost weekly.... ugh.
a LIFETIME of 2-3 years
Worked well for 2 years but just isn't built to last much longer than that. Now at 3 years, the panels don't stay together, which also means the door doesn't stay shut. Not durable.
Don’t buy it!
What genius designed a composter with a metal latch inside that gets food waste on it, which causes it to rust and makes it impossible to open and close properly?! Don’t buy this product if you actually want to use it, i.e. be able to open it and close it, a necessary function of a composting bin.
Don’t buy this product. It comes in zillion pieces, many of which fit together badly. Assembling it will drive you mad. This kind of thing is an insult to the customer - just a way for the manufacturer to save on manufacturing costs
Nice item
Really good quality item. Good instructions but very difficult to put together. It requires two people and took us 4 hours. It’s very robust though once assembled
Sturdy and functional but the metal pieces don't last
I bought this composter several years ago (4-6 years) and initially was very happy with it - sturdy, well constructed - however, recently the hinges on the lid broke from having rusted through. I contacted customer support and they were very helpful and timely in assisting me to figure out which parts I needed but $30 for two hinges seemed a bit expensive to me, I would think that a product which is literally designed for outdoors should be made with metal that doesn't rust....
Not worth it
Rusted... did not last... such an utter disappointment. The company should respond with a better, new, and rust proof products to all of the customers who's compost rusted!
Did not last one season :-(
The metal parts started to rust quickly and it became so bad that the latching mechanism would not turn. Very Disappointed and would not purchase this product.
Save Your Money!!!
We purchased this composter and after using it for a year and a half the metal parts inside have rusted out and literally disappeared! We can no longer latch/unlatch the lid, which means we cannot rotate the drum to churn the compost!
Need to follow assembly instructions carefully, but looks a sturdy product. Have painted metal parts in Hammerite in hope of avoiding rusting problems reported elsewhere
Lifetime 50 gallon composter
I bought this composter a few years ago. I like it because it allows me to compost food items without drawing mice/rodents. The center tube rusted and eventually broke into two pieces. I contacted Lifetime looking to buy a replacement tube. I spoke with Dany in Customer Service. Lifetime sent me a new tube free of charge and my composter is back in business.
great service and warranty. (Australia)
good composter, however metal parts rusted. couldn't close with rusted latch. contacted Lifetime and metioned I located in Australia. they contacted Australia Lifetime and sent me the replacement parts at no charge and received parts to my house within 5 days.
[Rewarded Review] Love it but It will rust apart!
I love this composter and wish I could give it 5 stars but in a couple years every metal part inside will be totally rusted and disintegrating. This is my 2nd one and I've seen how it goes. If I could find a better product with the large door I would buy it. Hoping they redesign before I need a new one.
Rust after 4 years
Bought 4 years ago, the latch is completely rusted and it is no longer usable. A little ironic for something titled "lifetime"
