This is a great tool for around the house projects
I purchased four of these over a year ago and should have purchased six before the price went up. They work perfectly as sawhorses, or workbenches. A gool place to set tools rather than on the ground. I used a piece of plywood to make a larger top. Cut the plywood to the size you need, attach a piece of 2x4 to the underside and clamp to the workmate; instant workbench. A good place to place your tools while installing ring cameras. Good for lots of projects both indoors and out.
Low price and low quality
Only sufficient for light duty load. Much less stable than original Workmate products (from the 2000's). Good enough for average joe homework.
The bench is what I was looking for and seems good and well built so far. The assembly on the other hand, is not for the mechanically challenged. The instructions really suck. The illustrations don't show anything clearly. You have to rely in great part on the picture on the box as someone else here suggested and it's still a challenge.
I already reviewed this once, but, here we go again. The product is great. The instructions, or lack there-of, was disappointing at best. Someone that speaks English and knows something about assembling anything not phone related should look at these. Anyway, table is as good as expected.
Worst Instructions Ever!
As stated by others, the worst instructions I've ever seen. Some included parts are never mentioned, very few pictures, steps are unclear, assembly was pretty much trial and error. Come on, Black and Decker, you can do better than that! I've seen instructions on Chinese-made products that were clearer! Once assembled, it works pretty much as expected. Good product for light household use, horrible instructions...
This is a relatively small, lightweight stand. Suitable for working on small pieces of wood but not larger projects.
Feels cheap compared to previous generation
I bought this to replace my old Workmate, which has been a well-used workhorse over the past 30 years but finally gave out. I am disappointed (but not surprised) to see how much cheaper this new version is. The metal frame feels like a lighter gauge and the work surface pieces, which were probably 25mm thick in my old unit, are now only 16mm thick. Generally, everything just feels cheaper and thinner, and I'm crossing my fingers to see how long it will all last. The assembly instructions are poor, with some pictures not matching the actual part and (in my opinion) an illogical sequence of steps. Finally, it was impossible to insert the plastic swivel pegs into the work surface, and I had to ream out each of the holes to allow the pegs to be inserted. I wonder if these issues are why this item is only sold online.
Missing hardware, instructions impossible, waste
So I bought two of these when they were on sale. Upon arrival I open the first one and attempted to put it together. Not only were the instructions just unbelievably impossible but all of the pieces were not there. So I opened the second set to retrieve the missing pieces and it was also missing what I needed. I watched the YouTube video and tried to figure out what I needed to buy to make at least one of them come to fruition but gave up. Total waste of money, even on sale....
The quality is not bad but definitely for light jobs. I am rating with 2 stars because is so complicated to assemble it , the instructions are not useful at all and the piece that keep the handles in place is impossible to use; I ended up using a bended nail to keep the handles in place.
Good so far. My only complaint, which prevented me from giving five stars, was the instructions were horrible. After spending 45 minutes or so trying to figure where all the parts go I went inside and watched a YouTube video. The instructions were pretty much worthless. After watching the YouTube video it became clear and took me less than 10 minutes to complete the assembly. I highly recommend watching the assembly on YouTube over wasting time with the included instructions
Nice piece of equipment, and at the sale price I couldn’t resist the purchase. My only beef is that the assembly instructions are not the greatest, plus the instruction assume you have six hands. The 4 blocks between the frame and table are identical except for one difference. The instructions show one side of the blocks and that side is the same on all 4. Look at the exploded picture at the end of the instruction so you can see the reverse side that shows which 2 blocks go on the back and which 2 go on the front. No biggie, just a bit frustrating, especially if you only have two hands.
Really nice little stand. The vice capabilities of this are perfect for small jobs when you work by yourself. I was surprised by how stable the workbench was. Seemed very durable. Not the largest workbench but awesome for keeping in the back of your truck. Overall would buy again.
Missing parts, bad instructions. Avoid.
Just wasted 3h trying to assemble this. Instructions were impossible to follow...items are mislabeled. Parts are not marked with the assembly references. After YouTube help I got a little further, only to find out that bolts were missing from the box, yet there were too many of another kind of bolt. I returned it to the store half assembled with the other loose parts. See other 1* reviews. This is a common problem. Black and Decker has gone way downhill. Never buying their products again.
Not really worth it
First of all, these are an absolute joke in putting together. I am fairly handy around the house(I built it) and these took way too long. The instructions are as clear as mud and could barely rival IKEA instructions. I ordered a set of 2, put 1 together and will not even be messing with the 2nd one. They're are extremely flimsy once assembled, like harbor freight flimsy.
Better than expected for $12. Small project workbench.
This is a small project workbench and for $12 it far exceeds what I expected. If you need to sit, clamp down something and work on it, this is the bench. Its also sized right to use as an outdoor tv tray or side table. If you want it to hold an 8 foot piece of lumber to cut it, this isn’t the workbench for you. I had no trouble assembling it with the instructions, but I did watch a couple videos before it arrived.
Great value, bad instruction manual
Like everyone says, the assembly instructions leave A LOT to be desired. It’s not that it’s difficult to set up, the instructions are just inadequate. A combination of the manual and YouTube videos should get you through it though. Other than that, that table is great considering the price. I bought two for $14 each. Is the build quality as good as a portable table that’s $120? Doubtful. There’s reason this table has been around for 40 years though.
WM125 Workmate. Solid unit. Worst Directions
GOOD: I own three of these units and they are fine for my usage. (Chop saw , light assembly work) They will support an 80# lawn mower easily.
Buy a workbench to put this workbench together
Lets start by saying the everything seemed well made enough. Till you realize there are 50 separate pieces and many are cheap plastic. The instructions were awful, and the assembly was beyond difficult. It requires multiple tools and proper area to assemble. Even with that it two tiny pieces were missing in my order after i spent a good hour putting things together. Its one thing to require assemble but it should not require this level of effort and awful instructions. Do not buy.
Assembly NON-Intuitive/Instructions NOT Helpful
The assembly is NON-Intuitive, and the instructions NOT very helpful. Some assembly steps require a contortionist. See 1st Picture, showing use of hammer to secure lock pin (G). The pin itself is larger than the hole into which it is emplaced. To work, it must be crimped at the end to get it started. You CANNOT secure the pin as pictured, but must place in on top of a small block of wood, and CAREFULLY drive it in with a hammer. Any mis-step can cause breakage of the plastic pieces. This step took the longest time, and numerous attempts before even figuring out how to do it. Picture 2 shows mounting of the side blocks. Again, the instructions are neither clear nor intuitive. I had to use my other similar workbench to figure it out ... otherwise it would have taken much longer. Having said all that, the bench itself is handy for small jobs, and easily transportable. But don't expect it to be assembled easily.
Not good instructions
Product appear to be good for the price and the very light work I would be doing with it. Also I went by the manufacturer reputation. However the instructions are really lacking in details, especially to fix the two wooden plates. There are slide blocks (step 6) to be fixed below these wooden plates. For this, there are no clear, detailed pictures. Instructions are very short and combined in one step. This is very frustrating. Also the snap in knob (step 5) looks to be very tight to assemble to handle arm. It can not be pushed by had but need a hammer to drive it in. I was afraid it may break. Instructions on the web are a little better than that received with the equipment, not sure why it was not in the package. New buyers may want to take note of this. I have spent several hours to assemble it, even thought of returning but then decided to keep it anyway.
