1000 Mile Test Drive.

It was easy to put together and easy to use. It takes a few steps of unscrewing and screwing to move it around and you will need a 25mm socket. This is one of the lowest price carriers you will find. I traced 1000 miles with 4 bikes and NO problems. Its heavy but when separated is easy to carry.

Solid product at a great price

I have used this a couple of times now and it appears rock solid and holds bikes down to 20" wheel size well. There is no sway with the locking bolt, though you will want a 24mm socket to be able to get it nice and tight. It is rather heavy (but for this cheap, that is fine) and folds up very nicely so that I can hang it on the wall for storage.

I researched a few bike rack options before buying this platform style 4 bike rack. Although I only give the product 4 stars I am happy with the purchase and would do it again. This rack is heavy duty and you feel confident that your bikes are going nowhere once you get everything on and locked down. I have used it for both 2 bikes and all 4, and it is a lot easier to install the rack with just 2. That is because it is very, very heavy - like 80 lbs. It isn't easy to just throw on and take off on a whim. It does a nice job folding down on your car, and then getting even smaller for storage in the garage. The adjustability for bikes of all sizes is great and I have used it for large mens MTB, women's bikes, and even kids bikes down to 20 inch wheel.

The product seems to be made with good material and assembly is easy. Unfortunately that's where my good experience ends. I have got a defective part. Right out of the box I notice that paint had chipped from some of the parts. That was disappointing but I thought I would live with it. Sadly there were more issues. Attached images show that the base triangular plates for the long assembly are defective. There is slot for a hexagon nut and from the other side a knob used to tighten it. This hexagon nut must be installed from inside out as per manual and should get locked in the hexagonal slot. However the assembly I got the hexagonal slot is on the wrong side. So I tried to install it from outside and hoped would be okay as long as I can tighten it but the knob now does not have room to move and cannot be tighten. Rendering the whole assembly useless. I am very disappointed because I got the for the holidays so my family could take our bikes for our vacation. Now with this defective piece all the plans are ruined. We were looking forward for this vacation after the stressful year due to covid-19 and my family not being able to any vacation during the year. Updated: 1/2/21: Changed my rating from 1 star to 4 stars only because of the response I got from manufacturer. I informed them about the defective part. Their response was that although they were not responsible to address the issue since I didn't purchase it from them, they said they will . I got a replacement part within 2 weeks. Now the assembly is good. I have not really got a chance to use it. Does seems to be good quality as I noted earlier. Only issue I think is the length the rack sticks out compared to my old bike rack. I have standard mountain bikes which aren't necessarily light so, bit concerned about the weight.

This is the Stromberg Carlson BC-204. I don’t understand how this tray bike hitch costs so little for its performance and quality compared to other hanger style and tray/platform hitch bike carriers. It does a great job protecting your bikes and keeping them from “jostling” around during your trip. The “arms” that hold the bike down are lockable (this is an update from the original BC-204) and the connection point for the hitch screws in, to limit movement due to the inevitable looseness of the female/male hitch receptor. Solid bike rack for an extremely competitive price.

This bike rack is the BEST. It is very well made. You can take half of it off and use it solely as a 2 bike rack as well. It’s pretty heavy duty. The bikes are very secure, so you don’t have to worry about them hitting each other or moving around on the rack. Those bikes aren’t going anywhere. I also love how I can put two bikes on the back (as in my picture) and not have the bikes in the way of the back of the car opening. Bottom line: I’m so glad this was the rack I decided to go with.

This well worth it. I carry 4 bikes most of the time and I just got back from about a 450 mile trip and couldn’t be more happier with this rack. It’s secure, you can lock the bikes up if you need to leave them and did I mention it is solid. The initial set up was pretty easy. I did it myself in about an hour or so. It does fold up if you want to keep it on your vehicle. The hooks that keep your bikes secure also has a locking feature. You can be sure you bikes won’t get stolen if you need to leave them in there for a bit. My insecure self still puts a cable chain on all of them. I have a 2016 GMC Acadia and I used a regular 4 bike rack that holds the bikes suspended with the top bar but I always got nervous when driving around with bikes on it. It would move and bounce like crazy. I wasn’t a fan of the rubber straps that companies used to tie down the bikes. This platform rack by Stromberg Carlson is awesome and is half the price of other similar racks on the market, but is as durable and useful as them. I would definitely recommend this to everyone I know!

I plan to put it on the SUV as two pieces due to the weight, and the link between them is similar to that for the hitch, very well designed.

I bought this because it looked of higher quality than others in the same price range (I was trying to stay under $200). The build quality is actually really good. I like that it can be either 2-bike or 4-bike by removing just one bolt. Adjustments are simple. Arms and hitch fold vertical for storage so it takes up a small amount of space. One negative is that it's really heavy, 85lb, which makes it tough to move around by yourself. I had planned on using a locking hitch pin, but this actually uses a threaded bolt through the hitch. It pulls the carrier tight against one side of the hitch to prevent swaying (good feature). Instead of a locking hitch pin, I just use a combination lock in the bolt's cotter pin hole which works just as well. Good luck.

BAD Quality/Bad customer service

Item came with rust on it. Several areas had chips out of the paint and the metal had rusted. I had to then sand and paint the item. Walmart would only give me $60. Bad quality by the manufacturer and bad customer service by Walmart.
