Reviews
The speaker has a simple design that saves space, good sound quality and is durable. My family has used the speaker for 4 years but until now the speaker is still very smooth and the sound is not noisy.
Excellent sound for this price point
Had them for a little over a year now. Continue to sound awesome, whether I'm blasting music, watching a movie, or gaming. Has pretty deep bass even without my sub on. They take up hardly any room, look great, and sound excellent at all frequencies. The fact that I got them for $99each last year on Black Fri was a no brainer lol. I had a couple of KLH towers before that had 12" woofers and the bass obviously was deeper but these sound way better overall. These do great by themselves in a 2.0 setup, just make sure your amp has at least 100w/channel. I'm using a Sony that has 145w per channel, and it pairs with them perfectly.
Beautiful speakers
Excellent pair of speakers. High quality, used mainly for music listening. Crisp and clear. Very impressed. They look so much better in person too, I was thinking theyd look bland given the photos, but even the black speakers look great.
Great product, More bass
Overall, it's a good speaker for what it does. A lot of sound from a small cabinet. I need more bass though. It would be nice if you had a model where one of the passive bass radiators was an active 6.5" subwoofer.
Amazing Sound at an affordable price
I was looking for a set of speaker for my media room and discovered these Polk T50s. After comparing many product reviews I decided to give them a try. I combined the T50s with the T15 as rear surround, T30 center and PSW10 sub-woofer. The sound is crisp and clear when watching movies or listening to music. This setup did not disappoint. High end sound at an affordable cost.
Delightful High Value
Good definition; I'm convinced mid-tower is the best of all worlds. Bass is reasonably full and clear. Highs are natural. It would take another half as much money ($450+) to convince me more investment is worth leaping. These are the best sounding @ high value speakers on the market.
Really Loving The T-50 Speaker
After I hooked up these speakers, a smile appeared on my face. Tonally, the highs, mids and lows are there and sound like things are balanced nicely and to spec. What struck me about the T50 is the clarity of sound. I'm hearing things inside familiar music that were not nearly as present on my previous 3-way speakers with 8" woofers. To be better than this, you'll have to shell out a LOT of cash. Not worth it. Glad I made the purchase.
T SERIES ENJOYMENT BY POLK AUDIO
Replaced JBL 7.1 speaker system with the Polk Audio T series speakers and I am very pleased with this purchase and the price of the speakers fits my budget very well and I am pleased with the performance of the speakers and they are the 2nd set of the T50 speakers that I have purchased for a home theater system that will be connected to a Pioneer vsx 921 700 watt receiver and I am using T series speakers along with the T30, T15 and SW 10 subwoofer X 2. The Polk T Series speakers are perfect for my budget but performance is better than the budget price. I am very pleased with the results of my purchase and the theater and music experience they have given me. They're not audiophile performance but they are not a cheap sound by no means , if you are looking for a great set of speakers on a budget imho you can't go wrong.
Great replacement for my Monitor 7 from 1982
Bought my first Polks in 1982 a pair of Monitor 7’s .They still are going! Cabinets and dust covers are rough. Wife thought they were too big and ugly. I also have Polk surround speakers for my home theater. Needed replacement to go with my vintage NAD 7150. The T50s fit the bill. They outperform and sound much better than my Mon 7s! Love Polk!
Great towers with neutral to warm sound
I bought the T50s after praise by an excellent audio reviewer on youtube (ZF). This is a very well balanced, well rounded pair of towers which do not require a lot of amplifier power, as they are quite sensitive at 90db. No shrillness in the treble area, gentle and neutral, no overly sweet sound or coloration. Some of the reviews mention the bass which they find excellent. I agree that they have a nice bass level, but if you are a bass head you will want to consider options or add a subwoofer. If you like your music neutral, with some sweetness but nothing that colors unduly the whole audio spectrum, you will like them. Now, it all also depends on what you have them hooked on. I have a very modest, lo-fi set up consisting of a Kinter 2020a+ digital amp which has a tube-like sound that I affectionate. It can power way hungrier speakers than these and they work very well in tandem with them. Returning to the subject of the bass, one thing I did notice is that the mighty little Kinter did not generate a lot of bass with them; that is: until I switched the tone controls on and boosted the bass by about two thirds. Until then, with all other speakers I have associated the Kinter with (and some were excellent speakers like the Triangle Antal EX), I always bypassed the tone controls. In this case, upping the bass as indicated works wonders. Even with the bass boosted, though, the sound remains balanced, not boombastic (which I would not like at all). So, with this tweak, I have a pair of dedicated speakers that are able rivals to some much more expensive hi-fi alternatives (they do not replace them but you'd get close to 90% of the more expensive alternatives against a much lesser expense). I also like their form factor: they are quite small towers and do not take much space. I would also caution that you need to give these quite some time to warm up after the first use. It took about three days of constantly running the radio through them for the T50s to open up. The difference was dramatic when that happened. I do not remember hearing such a marked difference with other speakers before, and I have had a few. All of a sudden after these few days, the music will stop you in your tracks, whatever it is that you were doing, and you will understand the praise. Two areas of improvement I would suggest to Polk are: one, the binding posts in the back do their job but are quite flimsy. No impact on the sound there, but nonetheless. Secondly, the reviewer suggested to put the T50s on solid wood plates to improve their sound further (and also bring the tweeters in line with the listener's ears when seated). I have not tried the trick yet, but I did notice upon unboxing and setting them up that the T50s stand on a larger base that does not feel very solid. I would improve the base, make it sturdier and add a few inches of height at the same time. These will affect (and likely improve) the sound. Altogether an excellent pair of speakers, natural sounding, and a serious option for audiophiles on a budget!
Polk T50 Tower Speakers
Combined with an Infinity Center Channel speaker and Polk SW110 powered subwoofer, I was able to bring my Yamaha 5 channel receiver back to life. Prior home had ceiling speakers set up for surround sound. I don’t have surround anymore, but I am extremely happy with the handsome look and robust sound of these speakers. I tried a s Polk Sound Bar and was not pleased with its quality of sound. Polk puts the T50s on sale about 3 to 4 months out. Walmart had the best price and delivery was quick.
Great Value and great sound!
I purchased these Polk Floor Speakers for a 3.1 system for my home theater system and am truly amazed at the sound quality. I paired it with Polk Audio T30 center channel speaker and a Polk Audio PSW10 sub-woofer and a Yamaha RX-V 373 receiver. The sound is amazing with no distortion event at high volumes. I highly recommend this combination if you are on a budget, but demand great sound. The quality and finish are what you expect from Polk's more expensive lines.
Beyond Expectations
I am by no means an audiophile, but these speakers sound better than anything I've ever heard. However, they are larger than what they look like in the picture. When you think of a bookshelf speaker you think of something that could fit, in a bookshelf. these, do not. They sit about a foot high, there are about 6in deep. I know that shopping for speakers online is very hard, because you kind of have to go by people's reviews. Unfortunately I cannot offer any expert advice on these speakers. however, I did order a 12 inch subwoofer, and that hasn't arrived yet. And now that I've run the gamut of movies and music through the speakers, I'm starting to feel that I probably didn't need that subwoofer because the bass is nice and tight and accurate, the highs are great, and the meds are great too. I bought this for a home theater, the room is a 9 foot by 12 foot room. they actually put out enough range, that I feel I don't need a center speaker for any dialogue or voice or whatever they are used for. don't forget that your receiver makes all the difference, and I managed to get these speakers for $50 a pair. This allowed me to have a much nicer receiver, which also probably makes you speakers so much better than if you just plug them in and do your typical receiver. I am using a Pioneer 7.2 Channel full-featured receiver that you see on newegg on sale right now. but even at the current sticker price of $70 a pair, I think they are great value if you're looking for something that has full sound for a medium-sized room. Not to mention they are extremely affordable if you want to expand on to your home theater system. If you're an audio expert, you probably already know what you're looking for, or if you have deep pockets for extremely high end speakers, go for it. But if you're on a budget, I feel these are excellent value, and they even beat out the speakers that came with my home stereo. Also Newegg I've been writing reviews for quite a while now on a mobile device, and it doesn't show my name even with the checkbox selected, please fix.
Audible Excellence
Being a previous Polk fan, I expected nothing short of classic detailed, smooth, warm, rich sounds to be produced. Polk not only delivered such musical production, but also included IMHO a seemless crossover and depth unheard of in this price range. I pride myself on finding truly great sounding audio at budget "audiophile" prices and Polk Audio has been a go-to in this arena. Pair these with a quality dac source and settle in for shear delight. Sub optional. Proud owner of Monitor 40, 70, Rti 4, 8, Csi3, fx3, Psw 505, 125, R15 (my 1st Polk purchase), and now T50! All pleasing to my ears. Keep up the good work.
Excellent sound for value
This are fine sounding speakers.Actually they far exceed the price in terms of sound quality. I was surprised to get such a bang of sound from this lightweight speaker. Hooking up is a no brainer. I am breaking a pair of these t50's as of writing this.Put it through the paces/radio/CD player/cassette tape/graphic eq/turntable. Works well for me. I would recommend this product to anyone looking for good sound quality in a medium size room /office space.
GREAT buy for the $
I was so dumbfounded by just how light these speakers were. The sound does not disappoint, however. Make sure you have a sufficient amp to drive these bad boys with a good EQ. I also have some Polk flush mount speakers in a different room. They sound great. Complete the ensemble with a Polk subwoofer. It packs a serious punch and will make its own speaker rattle before it will rattle the walls, just be careful when you have it upstairs because the people downstairs may not appreciate a sub that powerful. You can always change the volume and frequency though. I figured that the sub works best on a single line level input. In terms of the floor speakers, they work great and have adequate bass enough to not disappoint. Having the Sub makes them that much more awesome though. When you unbox the speakers lay them on the side unless youre like 7 tall. Be careful when you take them out of the box since there is plastic wrapping that comes right off the speakers and make sure you have the grill side up to protect it. I hope this review helps!
Decent for home theatre sound
I bought these but returned them. They were quite decent for movies and a bit of volume but I wanted something I could crank up for just music and these quickly started to give out at higher volumes. I went to another store and tested a pair of Pioneers (slightly less money than these) and they were a whole lot better (three way and with much more bass). I opted to pay more for a pair of Klipsch which are a very nice leap up in performance. If I was going to stay in this price area, I would have picked up the Pioneers which sounded so much better. I am surprised by all the rave reviews here given the superior sound quality with the Pioneers.
Sound Great
Like the compact size of the speakers. Fit my small listening area. Sounds great with my set up - Jolida 202a 60w tube amp, NAD preamp and Technics turntable. Does it rattle the windows? No, but it has the potential to get loud and the tubes and speaker combo make the music sound crystal clear. I built a low-end hi-fi sound system with used electronics and new speakers (on sale) for around $750 that sounds really good. If I'd bought everything new at retail price the set up would easily be $1800-$2000. All around, I cannot be happier with the end result of my budget system.
Unbeatable! (Valu-Wise)
Having used Polk's Speakers in the past, I was decidedly curious about their performance. Well, they didn't disappoint. They were capable of setting up a soundstage, with defined depth of imaging. While I found it necessary to tone back the treble a tad, it was the only adjustment made of a personal sort. It will be Extremely difficult to find another speaker system with the value and performance one gets with this one. These, along with a 50-wpc Onkyo High Current Receiver (it's a totally personal thing when it comes to low to mid range receivers. I personally like the power to increase as the Load increases; 50-watts @ 8-ohms, 82-watts @ 4-ohms, 100-watts @ 2-ohm loads ... that kind of performance - as an example. heheheh :-) ((from a relatively inexpensive receiver to boot! ::--)) Over-all, such a setup gives a system which doesn't just play music, but actually puts on a performance for you! You'll never get better sound for what you pay (had you paid more, you'd still be happy with your purchase. J.T.
5 stars, for the price
I think these speakers are an excellent value when on sale (which they frequently are). I purchased my T50 set for $150/pr on black friday and they are easily worth more than that. The treble on these is not fatiguing at all. It is smooth but detailed. I was most surprised by the quality of the treble, as someone who is quite sensitive to treble frequencies in general. The midrange is quite smooth as well, with a crunch when the source calls for it. Bass is present, but could be tighter. Thankfully it's a sealed cabinet so it's as tight as it can be given the tech involved. Overall, speakers that focus on musicality rather than clarity. Very enjoyable in a 2.0/2.1 setup and are a much better value than the comparatively inferior T15 bookshelf speakers.
