Great pot, especially for tropical plants

These are great for plants that tend to dry out a bit (tropicals, orchids etc.) if you forget to water them. I soak my plants in the pots and then pour out the water. The little platform at the bottom of the pot is great to catch extra water/drips and it holds the plant above any extra water so it doesn't get wet feet or rot. This also works to keep the plants a bit moist, which is what tropicals need. All my orchids have absolutely love and thrive in these pots.

13" green is actually 12"

The planter looks like what you would expect a plastic planter to look like. I ordered 4 and only received 3 of the self-watering inserts so it gets a deduction for that. And, the planter is smaller than my other 13" planters so another deduction. It is imprinted as a 12" size on the bottom, and I think that's correct. So, I am debating whether I want to keep them. Price is great for the green one though.

Had several seedlings that had outgrown their starter containers. Purchased this pot. Suitable and i loved the blue color.

Plant is happier now

Nice inexpensive. Using this inside another pot that does not drain. This one drains into the bigger pot. Now my plant is happier.

Pros - attractive, sturdy without being too heavy. Cons - did not work well as a self-waterer when we had a period of rain. Since "self-watering" appears to mean no drainage holes in the inner pot, after normal but heavy summer rain, my plants were swimming. Other than poking holes in the outer planter, the only way to remedy this would be to lift out the inner pot to let it drain. this is challenging when pot is heavy with dirt, water and the plant. I will use again this growing season, but not as a self-waterer. I will drill holes in the outer pot.

I bought three of these pots in which to grow my three 'Amazel 'Basil plants. this summer (I have had to stop planting basil for the last several years because the humidity and heat have created an environment in which all my plants became ravaged by mosaic. for which there is no cure.) Amazel basil plants have been bred to resist damage by viral mosaic. They are not grown from seed but from cuttings. Thus the plants are in very limited supply and are very expensive. No gardener wants to put such expensive prizes in just any old pot.
