Does what it says

This does the trick. Purchased to put out on our back deck so the squirrels and birds would have liquid water when everything else started to turn to ice. It's still pretty new and they are unsure what it is or whether or not to use it, but it is effectively keeping the water from freezing. Good capacity, lightweight. Easy to fill and empty.

Help this bowl out

If you want this bowl to last more than a few years, just 1) insulate it with an old pillow case or some such cloth, wool would work best, 2) place your insulated bowl on a thick piece of plywood to keep it further insulated from the cold damp ground, and 3) keep water in it at all times to prevent it from overheating.

Fire Hazard!

This is the second season I have used this bowl outside, as a water source for the birds in deep winter. Only this year, about 2 weeks into having it on, I looked out on my porch one morning to find the water in it frozen over!

Excellent!

I ordered this and had it shipped to my aunt; she lives in small town and is not able to drive from store to store to look for items. She has two outdoor cats that she feeds in her shed, and winters are harsh where she lives. She sometimes struggles to get out and check on their water and was very worried about their well being. I did some research and this dish got the best reviews, I also purchased the 2-year plan in case we got a defective dish or it broke. So far she loves it! It holds enough water that she doesn't need to check on them daily, she says there isn't a lick of frost or ice on the bowl and she couldn't be happier!
