Red mason jar humming bird feeders

I bought three of these , one for my sister and two for myself. The humming birds loved them then after a few summers they started rusting inside on the metal feeding tray and ports. Birds stopped coming to my sisters and are slowing down coming to my two. Wish they had better paint on the metal parts the birds feed from and the rust doesn't cause health problems for the birds.

These are the best humming bird feeders I have used. They don't get moldy or clogged. Easy to use and easy to clean. My humming birds love it.

Easy to clean

I love this hummingbird feeder, and I find the ease of cleaning is the best advantage. South FL heat will cause algae to grow in the sugar water in about 4 days, so I change it every 3 days, and clean it with a sponge, as the opening is large enough to get my hand in. Do not use store bought ready-made nectar !! The correct recipe, according to the Cornell Ornithology lab, is four parts water to one part sugar. I have another feeder, so I add 8 oz of sugar after I boil 32 oz of water. Stir until all sugar is dissolved. Let it cool, of course! Nice appearance and good size feeder.

I love watching the hummingbirds eat from our feeders. I prefer the glass container from the plastic ones. But, for some unknown reason, the birds rarely drank from this container. It's a cute feeder but I have no idea why the birds are not drinking from it very often. It's a nice size and quality. One reason I selected it was the perch but the birds didn't seem to like it. Oh well.

Durable and works

Unit is all metal and glass, which I like and it should last a long time. The quart size means it should only need refilling once a day at our place (we have a lot of hummers!). Birds came to it very quickly but seem to like our other ones better. Could be they just resist change like humans do? But they are getting more used to it every day. I think it was a good investment.

Don't waste your money--the feeder base leaks!!

The hummingbird feeder is beautiful! It is easy to clean and could potentially feed many hummingbirds. But no matter what I do, the feeder leaks between the two pieces (top and bottom) of the metal base that cup together where the hummingbirds feed from. The manufacturer might want to consider a rubber gasket or something that would keep the base from perpetually leaking. Consequently, the feeder makes a mess and attracts ants. The only way I can use it is to only fill the bottom half of the metal dish, which negates the purpose of buying a large hummingbird feeder!

We have a lot of feeders in a variety of sizes. This is our biggest size and first blue feeder and we love it!

Addition To The Family

I bought this as a second hummingbird feeder and love it. The only reason I took away a star from my review is because the hummingbirds in my area are choosing my other hummingbird feeder over this one. Yes, they are made a bit differently but both from the same company.

cheap price means badly manufactured product

THIS ITEM IS CHEAP IN PRICE BECAUSE IT IS CHEAPLY MADE. After three months of use the sauntering in the middle of the base rotted out. fluid just pours out. The two base pieces do not fit together after a few uses, leaks. the paint on the inside of the base pieces rusts making the seal useless, leaks. the top base portion is not painted, the sugar solution adheres to the top base piece making it so the two base pieces do not seal properly. there is one good point, it is easy to fill because of the large mouth jar; but you will be filling that jar daily because of all the leakage. recommendation, do not purchase this hummingbird feeder; the hummingbirds that your trying to feed will starve because all you solution just leaked out onto the ground.
