Great rug, horrible smell

I love the rug. It is soft, cushy and looks great; however, the chemical smell of the rug is overpowering. I know sometimes rugs have a smell at first, but this is very strong and is not dissipating at all. I vacuumed, used a rug cleaner, vacuumed again, sprinkled baking soda on it and left it overnight and all day the next day, nothing has touched the extremely strong chemical smell. I am about to remove it and leave it in the garage or outside, weather permitting, to see if that helps. Otherwise, I guess I just wasted my money.

The colors are beautiful and exactly what I was looking for. My fav color is PLUM and my LR boasts grey leather furniture with all PLUM accents. I emphasize the word "plum" because purple would never work for me...it has to be the deep, dark, rich eggplant/plum color. The grey accents in the rug are beautiful and, of course, match my furniture perfectly. Takes a while for the rug to lay flat after being rolled, but well worth the wait! Great price, good quality and perfect color.
