The instructions were a little confusing. It is all diagrams and some were not clear as to where to put certain hooks and screws. I think they could have done a better job with the wall to floor connections. It is supose to be a 2 man job but I did it myself and I'm 80 years old. If you are smart you can figure out how to do it but it would be much easier with 2 people. I leveled the ground and put down treated 3/4" plywood measuring 8'x10' but the base is about 10.5'. Remember that when you set your foundation. I am sorry I have no Pics but I am very happy with the finished product
The shed is weak and the quality is poor
The shed came with some damaged items. We called and they replaced them. This shed was not so easy to build due to the workmanship issues. There are two metal bars use as the shed support and those bars were not cut correctly. They were an inch longer. We had to use wood bars to cut to the size and replace them. We know that if we call them, they properly sent to use exactly the same bar size.
Good shed worth the money if purchasing on sale
I purchased this 50% off and had read all the reviews. I mostly assembled it myself but did need two people for a quick minute a couple times. Is this the worlds sturdiest shed, no but no plastic shed is. The plastic is a bit flimsier than other competitors BUT once it is all assembled it feels sturdy. I primarily watched a step by step assembly video on youtube and had to reference the manual a couple times. I would not pay full price for it but on sale I think it is hard to beat.
Poor fit of walls doors
Got one on sale, and it is the worse shed I've ever had to put up.
Not at all worth for the price
I bought this product, and based on experience, I DO NOT recommend this product. Assembly is not at all easy. groove alignments, especially when predrilled holes / groves are either completely missing or half done. With these issues the roof stability is biggest question. The alignment of side panels and doors are not good. It is not because of leveling but because of design. Customer care response is worst, with multiple attempts still did not hear back anything from them.
Just OK, not durable.
This shed can use better engineering. Needs better anchoring to base. A couple years of wind can strip the short, self-tapping screws from the base, as I have seen on other reviews. The roof engineering tried to remedy this problem with clips securing the roof to the walls, but the clips do not stay snapped into place. The only defense against strong winds are self-tapping screws holding half the roof on, as the clips will fail, if they even clip at all. Not sure how long this shed will last.
It's only been a few days since building our shed, but so far we like it. It has lots of head room inside! Putting the shed together took longer than the videos suggested, about 4-5 hours. We were scared to tighten some screws too much in case the plastic would crack, and were very careful. Our platform was level, but the shed, once assembled was out of square. We had to raise a back corner to get the doors to line up and close properly. Not sure how that will affect the durability of the floor, or wall and floor seams.
Product = poor
Rubbermaid is normally really good. But this product was very poor. Installation was not easy. Took 3 of us multiple days. The instructions were were poor. It was almost like they were out of order.
Poorly made
First off, the shed came with wrong parts which Rubbermaid customer service did do a good job shipping the replacement parts. Then I had to deal with unused plastic pieces that took a lot of cutting up to get to fit in the trash. Construction was not smooth, quite a few of the panels do not snap together like they're suppose to. The panels also do not match each other in color. It's now winter and the roof has separated causing rain water to pour into the shed. Not a good product.
never stood up
Horrible torture experience. My dad , who built full home additions successfully, and I worked on this 3 or 4 weekeds. The shed is supposed to slide or latch together like a fisher price toy. As soon as one side was oon another popped off. We were holding it all together wishing we had more arms and legs. At one point the entire roof fell on our head. On the last attempt we threw good money after bad and basically bought brackets and lumber for a frame Endo skeleton. So that as the pieces tried to pop apart at least it stopped hitting us and/ or falling down and it would stay in form. We finally had it. Well at the first bit of wind it imploded anyways. I didn’t want dad to see it. I think it really broke him. Dad is Mr builder- our tree fort could have been rented as an air b and b. If that was a thing in the 90s. Amyways - do not buy this. Please stop selling it as is. Its evil. Sorry it took me so long to post- it’s difficult to talk about.
Packaging is TERRIBLE!!
I really like this shed. I used the online video to assist in assembly and things went smoothly. I did most of the assembly process by myself. I used a helper to hold a panel or two while pounding them into place. Speaking of the panels, keep them FLAT, especially if they are in the sun. I had staged a few of the panels on their sides, leaning them up against the side of my house during the assembly. This caused them to warp and bow a bit making for a difficult assembly. If you keep the panels flat on the ground you wont have that problem. A few minutes flat in the sun and the panels will flatten back out again. The steel structure members make for a solid assembly. Make sure your shed base is flat and level!!!!!
DOORS DON'T FIT
1. I had to cut 1/4 inch off of the entire height of one of the doors and remove the door stiffener to make the doors fit. Then, since the doors are hollow, I had to back fill the edge with almond colored silicone. 2. THE INSTRUCTIONS ARE WRONG: They instruct you to slide the roof sections onto the side pieces which is mechanically impossible due to the different angles of the front and back sections which are attached together. The only way to slide the roof pieces in place is to cut them apart first, then glue them together after assembly. I discovered that the roof pieces can be located above the sides, then forced down onto them to snap in place. The instructions do NOT say this. They tell you to use dish soap everywhere which makes NO sense when parts slide together. If they snap together, you do NOT want to use soap to make them easy to snap together because, then, they will UNsnap in a strong wind. 3. There were 8 fasteners that did NOT work at all. 4. Wind will blow rain into the upper end vents because they are NOT covered. 5. There is NO provision to fasten shelves to the walls to add weight to hold the shed down in a strong wind. 6. There is NO provision to hold the doors closed. I added a barrel bolt to the outside. 7. It looks nice and I like the window and that it will be very low maintenance.
FOUNDATION!!!!!!!
Great shed for the price! Was worried about the thickness of the walls. I spent 8 hrs total on this thing and a good majority of it was on the foundation. A little digging and 20 bags of paver sand and 88 12”x12”x1.5” paver stones and it came out perfect! Super easy to assemble with the right tools. I had a shovel, 2x4 for leveling sand, rubber mallet, level, hole punch, drill with Phillips head and a socket wrench set. Lots of bolts and screws that were time consuming but the walls and roof were super easy to install. Helps to have small step ladder as well. CAN NOT STRESS ENOUGH, A GOOD LEVEL FOUNDATION IS WHAT MADE THIS SO EASY!! I have never in my life assembled anything like this. Just make sure you are good at reading instructions and following instructions. Also pay close attention to the pictures to made sure you are placing things correctly. Got ahead of myself a few times and had to go back and flip things around. If you live in a windy area I would consider doing wood so you can have a way to anchor it to the ground. Thankfully where I am we can not buy a good breeze so I’m just going to leave it in anchored.
[Rewarded Review] Good Looking Storage
Rubbermaid's 10.5 ft. x 7 ft. Storage Shed is a very nice looking shed and would be a welcome addition to anyone’s yard. I’m in Florida and try to use materials that wont be affected by the large amount of rainfall and the humidity so aluminum, fiberglass or plastic/resin are my alternatives. The resin the shed is made from seems to be hardy and hopefully durable. Rubbermaid doesn’t give a wind load rating so that is a concern also in Florida. The shed comes in a very large box so be prepared. I’m working alone so unloading and assembling the shed was a one person operation and very doable. Working from the already secured floor it took me 8 hours to assemble the shed by my self, it’s doable alone but I don’t recommend it. The components of the shed went together well with a liberal spray of very soapy water to lubricate the connections. I left all of the roof loose until it was completely assembled and lined it up as I tightened the members up. I did find some manufacturing defects that could be worked around. Due to possible wind conditions I added longer screws in the wall to floor connection that screwed into my wood base and added cable anchors over the roof to keep the shed from heading to Oz in a high wind. The shed has been through several heavy rains in the last week and hasn’t shown any sight of leaking. All in all I happy with the Rubbermaid shed, It has yet to be tested by wind. The shed is competitively priced and looks to be a good value.
[Rewarded Review] I think the Rubbermaid 10.5 wide x 7 ft. Deep Shed will get the job done!
I needed a storage shed for the snow blower in the summer and lawn equipment in the winter. The 10.5 ft. x 7 ft. Rubbermaid Shed seems well designed and should get the job done. The shed requires a level concrete or treated wood platform. I chose the treated wood platform. My design required 3 - 12 ft. by 4x4 pressure treated redwood timbers and 5 – 8 ft. – 4x4 pressure treated redwood timbers. I cut these timbers to the proper length to support the 10.5 wide x 7 ft. Deep Shed. These timbers were suitable for direct ground contact. I used a notched joint design (like tinker toys) and used deck screws to fasten the platform together. I happened to have 3 sheets of outdoor grade ¾ inch plywood that I used for the sheeting over the redwood timbers. The treated wood platform took 3 days to build. The wood platform was perfect to attach the Rubbermaid floor against. I used 14 – ¼ inch x 2-inch-long galvanized lag screws with washers to anchor the Rubbermaid floor down to the deck (the lag screw were not provided). Be sure to locate the shed at least 2 ft. away from any fencing or other buildings like a garage wall. You will need access at the back of the shed to assemble the roof panels.
[Rewarded Review] Super value over wood buildings.
With a solid foundation this Rubbermaid 10 ft. W x 7 ft. D Plastic Storage Shed is a SUPERIOR VALUE over any wooden shed. The most important part of a quality assembly is a level and rigid floor. In my line or work, I have built many outbuildings, decks, and playhouses so I have a lot of experience with constructing these units. With the costs of lumber today, this shed saves in costs and also future maintenance. There is no roof to replace or repainting with a plastic shed. This is where these types outperform traditional units. I have a 13 year old Rubbermaid deck storage unit that has been in the sun since I purchased and it has not faded or warped-WOW (See pic). I have thoroughly studied other owner comments and noticed most negative reviews are from the unit not aligning and fitting properly. I CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH THAT THE FOUNDATION IS PARAMOUNT TO A QUALITY INSTALLATION. The instructions are well illustrated and the parts are labeled for easy identification. I reviewed the instructions carefully and inventoried the parts list before assembly to prevent issues down the line. My floor option was to build a solid floor from treated wood. I chose to use 2x8 treated framing on 16 centers. All of my fasteners where 20 penny and lag screwed the corners (see pics). My deck sits on two runners for easy leveling and positioning. The level and finished dimensions were 126.25 inches wide by 85.5 inches deep. The floor attached perfectly. I was able to install this by myself but I do recommend using a helper for an easier experience. Once completed, I was amazed at the finished results. There were a couple hiccups along the way-but stepping back at times, I was able to clear my head and proceed preventing mistakes. Here are a few tips to make this project a successful build: 1. Review the assembly instructions and layout all the parts. Twice! 2. Place this only on a level and rigid surface or you will encounter fitting issues. No exceptions here! I cannot express this enough. 3. The walls snap in to the base-and this is where a helper is needed. Some panels are tougher than others to snap into place. Do not hammer the panels from the top to avoid damage. Just work it back and forth slowly until it fits-soap on bottom helps here. 4. The windows are covered to protect from scratches during shipping. The paper removal is tedious. I recommend giving this project to your significant other to avoid foul language. 5. The doors: If your floor is unlevel you will encounter issues with fit during this step. Note: heat expands and cold contracts. Assemble these in early morning and avoid placing the front towards the evening sun. The doors could have been molded a 1/4 inch narrower for a better fit-IMO. The doors were amazingly easy to install. To close in the heat -open both and mate together and then close. 6. The roof is a bit challenging for one person. This is where you should seek help to make these steps manageable and safer. Please use a safe ladder here. 7. I trimmed the top tab on the right door with a razor knife to get the door to close easier. It snaps into roof to hold panel flush. I hope some of these tips help with you installation. I actually found the assembly fun and different from constructing a wooden unit. I highly recommend this quality shed at this price point for anyone wanting to save a ton of money, less future maintenance, and a simple solution to one's outdoor storage needs. If installed on a solid foundation you will be very pleased. If you are unsure about placement on a level and solid surface, then I recommend looking at a smaller unit or a wooden structure sold here at the Home Depot. A very nice alternative to your outdoor storage needs and another quality long lasting product from Rubbermaid.
My 2022 7'x7' Rubbermaid is exactly what I needed!
I Chose this particular shed after looking at the shed in real time at the home depot store. It appeared to have the most robust engineering and relatively easy construction and the size was exactly what I was looking for. Once ordered and paid for, I received numerous texts which informed me of when my shipment would be here - so with that info in mind I got busy building the foundation (all the info I got online about the shed insisted on a SOLID, LEVEL foundation which we spent about 8 total hrs creating) . With the Foundation completed, we moved the shed parts to near the foundation and organized them (hardware/walls/flooring etc), we watched the online shed video a couple of times and got to work paying very close attention to the installation manual (the manual is mostly pictures and we were able to clearly understand them easily). All parts went together as expected EXCEPT for the left Dormer pin-after inspection the dormer closer, we noticed the dormer pin holes under the windows were way too small to receive the incoming pin. Do yourself a favor and check out the dormer pin holes BEFORE you install the windows, it would 've made things so much easier. Since we spent a great deal of time and effort into Squaring and Leveling the foundation, the doors went up without any issues. NOTE1: the door hinges leave about a 1/4" opening around them and the air vents that would allow bugs to get in so I cut some screening and glued to the vents and tightly rolled abt a three inch piece of screen to fit the gap and glued it into all the hinge openings. She is now BUG free. NOTE2: We do get some high wind in our area so we attached a ratchet system to make she she is as anchored as possible.NOTE3: I will be adding a ramp next month (waiting out the spring storms before I begin). All in all I highly recommend this Low cost, well designed Shed. (By the way: two 70 year old women built the foundation and constructed the shed - IT WAS A SNAP!!)
Great shed with easy cleanup, relatively easy assembly, and decent design and ventilation.
Great shed for the price. Tedious to set up and a few issues with the fit of the door. I installed this on a slightly uneven concrete pad in fairness, so a shim might have helped the doors to move a bit more smoothly. I ended up installing handles on the inside so I could close the doors to work in there and have a little shade on sunny days or weather protection on rainy days. The ventilation in the top is good and doesn't let too much debris in. Compared to a wooden shed, the setup was probably 100x easier than that so if you need a little covered space quickly it works well (took me about 5 hours to set up). My only complaint is that while the screws and snap together pieces worked great, there were some roof pins that were very tough to line up and the snap-in for them was not sufficient to keep them in place. They are not that critical to the structure and it has helps up very well in high winds in the Sandia Mountain foothills, but I do wish they had just gone with more roof purlins (which work great) and fewer of those pegs (which didn't line up well or stay snapped in). Time will tell but so far it has made it brilliantly through a windy winter and kept the weather out. The 2" raise off the ground is more than enough for water to run around here in Albuquerque and so both snow and rain stayed out as expected. the doors could have a nicer seal at the bottom (and to that end I bought a bean bag that spans the length of the door bottom to keep weeds and other dirt/debris from blowing in). I love that I can spray the whole thing out and wipe it down whenever I want to.
Could Be Better
The shed absolutely must be affixed to a heavy and level foundation. No foundation materials are included with the shed, you must design, supply and fabricate one yourself. It is important to afix the shed walls and floor to the foundation to prevent it being damaged or destroyed by wind. This shed has some design problems. The use of tabs at the bottom of the wall pannels which snap into slots in the floor to hold the shed together are structurally inadequate. Reinforecement with metal or wood need to be screw and fender washer attached to both. Roof joints need to be sealed with silicon caulk to prevent water intrusion. Caulk is not supplied with the shed. Some connectors to hold the roof to the metal frame snap into the roof pannels. This is structurally inadequate and must be reinforced so that a strong wind will not ‘unsnap’ the connectors. Given the weakness of the plastic sheet used to make the wall panels, I reinforced the inside wall corners with 2x2 boards, attaching the walls to the boards with screws and fender washers from the outside. I then attached the side 2x2s with a 1x4 where the side walls meet the roof, then used the 1x4 to attach hangers for tools, thus avoing the weight of the tools to be supported by the lightweight plastic wall pannels. I assembled the shed alone with difficulty, so I recommend a second person be svailable to help with lifting an aligning the ungainly roof and wall panels.
Besides a couple of acceptable flaws, it's a great shed for the price
My wife and I decided to get this shed because we needed some more space to organize the horde we have accumulated in our garage. We looked online and found this. It's a decent size and the best you'll find for the price.
