Endurance II 105 Chrome Quartz Clock (Weems & Plath 120500)

Better than I expected

After running it for several weeks, the clock accuracy is still correct to within 1 second, so it's much better than a typical cheap AA quartz clock movement. The chime is not electronically generated, it's actually striking a bell, so the sound is nice. The bell can be enabled or disabled as well. With the clock sitting in the mahogany stand, most of the sound holes in the bottom of the brass clock case are covered and aimed into the base, so the bell volume is not excessive, and works well in inside the house with the stand. It's audible, but not distracting if you're on a call. The bell chimes the correct doublet for every hour as well, not evenly spaced chiming. It came with a lithium AA battery, supposedly to prevent leaking if it runs dead, but I imagine that having to mechanically strike the bell may take quite a bit more power than an electronic chime, and the higher energy disposable lithium AA might keep it running longer, so I'll stick with those for replacements as well (they're several bucks more than an alkaline AA, but it only needs 1). The brass case looks nice, and the size is perfect for a shelf or mantle with the stand, and still easily readable from 10-15 feet away or better. If you wanted it to sit on your desk, you may find this a bit large, I don't know, and you may want one of the slightly smaller options that Weems & Plath offer. It came with a rubber vibration damping mounting gasket, and to keep it from leaning forward a bit on the mahogany base, I decided to put the gasket behind it and put just the top screw into the backer without torquing it down much. The brass mounting screws were provided with it as well, and it keeps it sitting perfectly vertical in the base that way. Since you unscrew the front latch, and swing the face out to access the battery or the bell switch, you don't need to unscrew it again for any normal usage.

Beautiful clock for smaller boats!

Recently down-sized to a 27 footer, and the large clock that W&P makes would look out of place -- just not a lot of bulkhead to display it. So I ordered the 4 inch size -- it's perfect! Same high quality in a slightly smaller size.
