I may have received a defective unit, the legs did not fit properly and were the wrong length on one side.
The assembly was simple in theory, but turned out to be quite difficult. The left leg (the leg with no wheel) just didn't fit properly and I had to force it in. Besides that, that same leg was way too long, and the holes for the footing attachment did not line up properly with the bars. I ended up having to modify the leg by cutting off about 3 inches of it and drilling new holes for the footing attachment. The unit was so far tilted to one side that it looked defective. I am quite mechanically inclined, so now is completely level. I think that a different customer would have probably returned it. As far as the operation of the unit, I used it last night for the first time to grill some chicken and it worked flawlessly. Overall, I'm happy with it, but the assembly issues are the reason I'm only giving it a 3. Sorry, I should have taken pictures of the before and after my modifications.
Great Small Portable Grill
This grill is very portable and cooks well. I had submitted a negative review (2 stars) based on not being able to easily close and latch the cover, but since then I found out that the inner tray (great for catching grease and keeping the interior clean) wasn't seated all the way when I reassembled it. So this is intended to offset that earlier review.
Terrible, cheap, no heat!
I like Coleman products, I checked this out, features, build, etc. Then I used it! Don't know what's up with it not giving out heat. 20 to 30 minutes for coffee, not enough heat to fry eggs hot enough. Tried new canisters. Cheap plastic broke 1st time out. A total waste of money.
A Disappointing Replacement Grill
I purchased this grill to replace a similar Coleman two-burner grill, #9959, which served me well for many years until the gas regulator failed. The new one is attractive (blue cover), cooks well, and has the new feature of a removable grease catcher that can have water in it. On the negative side, the newer model seems to be flimsier and less robust. But the main reason for the low rating is that the latch made to engage the cover is very hard to snap in place. It requires me to exert considerable downward force on the lid to get the latch to work. I called Coleman Support, but they were no help on this.
This durable grill is easy to clean and great to cook with. We love the ease of use a portability to take it with us in our camper wherever we go. My husband's favorite christmas gift thus far. It heats up great and comes with a variety of accessories. It really is a must have for those who love to cook out at campsites.
Nice grill, defective stand.
I brought this home and was impressed with the grill part. The burners, my dual controls and cast iron grate looked like nice. The defective stand made the whole grill unusable. The feet /handle didn't fit into the mating section properly and were very loose when the button clips were snapped in. The retention clip was mispositioned so it did not engage in the bracket slot to secure the grill during transport. Finally the whole grill was tilted when upright. I really looked it over to see if I mis-assembled it but there was no other way it could have gone together. Returned it with no problem. I just lost a couple hours buying assembling and returning.
Lid does not close and lock down for transporting
Lid does not close all the way so you cannot lock it down for travel. Bought straps to lock it down. If I had known this I would have not bought it. I Should have read other people reviews saying the same thing. Coleman has the typical reply on the reviews sorry to hear about your issues.
A compact bbq that works very well
Love the compactness of the barbecue and even the need for the smaller propane canisters - much less cumbersome than the big tanks. Fits easily in a corner of my balcony and works quite well for me. I am curious, however, why the manual states that you need to put water in the basin surrounding the burners - what's the purpose of that?
Great product very portable
Bought this for a NC vacation trip. Very portable. Travels well. Sears the best ribeye stake I ever had.
Not as good as previous versions
This grill is ok. I had a previous version of this product for about 15 years, and I loved it very much. However, the burners eventually failed, so I purchased this model. I quickly realized it wasn't the same. The original model had two side-tables that you could draw out. They were flimsy, but the design was compact, and they were below the grill surface. This model has a single bolted on side-table, and because it is at the level of the grill things tend to slide into the flame.
Forget a full size backyard grill
Great little portable grill for on the go barbecues. Why get a huge expensive backyard grill you can't bring with you any where? This has a great solid cast iron grill and runs on standard size Colman propane tanks or get an adapter to run a 20 lbs tank any home. I love this thing use it every other day in the hot summer to keep the house cooler.
Terrible lopsided product
Terrible product, its obvious that for the last few years they have been manufacturing defective grills and they do not seem to care as I have read many reviews just now with this same exact problem that seems to be happening the last couple years. My Husband put together the grill the day before our beach trip and the legs are not even causing the grill to be completely lopsided. The grill grate also does not sit evenly. We now have to scramble and put more money out of pocket to go buy a different brand grill since our beach trip is tomorrow and do not have time to return this Coleman. I will never buy a Coleman ever again. The Weber Traveler is $200 more but well worth it based on the reviews and comes from a trusted company.
Not Impressed
Bought this to put in our camp trailer. I was disappointed from the start. The hardware was loose in the box so I had to hunt around to make sure I had it all. The main part of the grill had a couple dents in the bottom of it, then once I got it put together, the lock for when it is folded is unusable because it is on the wrong part of the leg. The "handle" is extremely loose once it is clipped in. The grill does not set level and requires a 4x4 under the wheels (not the bar) to level it out. Which I do not think is very safe! While my husband is willing to give it a try, it just seems like waste of space to take it with us to me. Also purchased the full griddle with it. So if I return one, I will return the other.
A Excellent solid bbq that is very versatile!
Excellent little bbq, I love the iron plates in the middle that gives you a flat option to cook something like bacon or smaller foods while still having the grill like option on the edges.
Great for grilling compact portable for sure. But it has its draw backs. Durability. I hope they fix these issues for future models.
I loved it from the beginning but then I hated it due to its plastic handle. Mine broke the screws cut my hand and the metal it attaches to the plastic is sharp be careful. I have little ones. They can come around the corner as they always do and hurt their face or arms. I’m always having to watch them. So I’m returning mine. But it does cook great. The burner knobs are either to high or to low so then it blows out wasting 1/4 of your tanks. Keep an eye on the flames. Just be careful when lifting it. Like I said mine broke setting it up at camp I suggest practicing before using it. Add water to your catch tray to makes it easier to clean
Really impressed.
Took this camping last night. Cooked an excellent steak. Purchased the cast iron griddle and it made a fantastic breakfast! May not last forever but with reasonable care it should last a few years. My only regret is that I should have purchased the large griddle instead of a half. Now I have to purchase the other half. Just a tip.. if the burners aren't burning properly at first, just let them go and the will break in.
Colman roadtrip grill rather subpar
First off , I've owned Colman products for 30+ yrs , always been a fan. Now , I had high hopes for this unit , not being a BBQ newby ; I followed the initial startup instructions given there might be some reason Colman wanted it done for a particular reason.
You'll spend more time cleaning than cooking...
Just purchased for camping used it 3 times here's what we think so far.
Horrendous quality!
I'm so disappointed. The quality is so poor that once assembled out of the box it is so unlevel it's not usable. The pieces do not fit together securely. The lid cannot be latched if the grills are in it, so you have to take the grills out while rolling... WHAT?! I bought this to use at my family vacation next weekend. Honestly not even sure I would want this anymore even if they ever get around to my claim... Seriously a shame.
Perfect Grill to Take Anywhere
This is our 2nd grill and we're still using the first one. It's a great grill for portability. I had it assembled in 10 minutes and it's easy to close up and roll anywhere. The cook-top is adequate for family grilling and is easy to clean. With TLC, this grill will last a very long time.
