Great cot, make sure to pad the corners!
Easy to assemble and disassemble. The size is great. I bought this for my son who is 6’ tall and he had plenty of room. I did use a self inflating mattress on top for extra padding and it was perfect. My one complaint was that the corners of the frame stick out. I am not sure how many times we ran into them and even cut ourselves before I ran to a dollar store and bought a pool noodle and padded them myself! It’s was a cheap fix though…just wish I did it sooner.
How to make the cot easier to stretch ends!
This little trick will change the way people rate this cot. Don’t question this just do it .
[Rewarded Review] Comfortable but bars on ends extend too far!
I had to buy this because I was getting a new sleeper sofa. It was pretty comfortable, but wished it was easier for me to assemble. Requires strong upper body strength. The bars on the ends extended out too far. Wish they were a little shorter. Even though I tried to be careful, they were hard to avoid banging into at times!
Trailhead II Cot issues w/cross beams
I have used Coleman brand outdoor products for decades. Iconic items like camp stoves, lanterns, tents and small items have always been top notch. I bought, and have returned to the retailer, a Coleman Trailhead II Cot. As I noticed from reading other reviews after trying to put the cot together, which should have quite simple; I realized that the holes on the cross beams do not match therefore the cot simply ot fit together. This could be while other reviewers have had their cots tear at the seams from forcing the crossbeams onto the frame. With years of experience putting together military cots, I was initally perplexed by the fact that crossbeams simply did not fit onto the frame. But again lying the crossbeams side by side showed the issue. Maybe Coleman's engineers and leadership team should check into this? AND please do not send me a form email or any email response..just address the issue.
2 out of 3 broke first use.
A couple of us at camp have these cots, and these could be a really great cot. But they aren't, and here's why. 2 out of the 3 cots are now unusable after the little plastic button on the end bar that holds it in place snapped off. And mind you, these cots were well under weight capacity, that was NOT the issue. Coleman of course does not offer just the plastic button by itself, or any replacement parts for these, so the only option is to throw the cot into a landfill and buy another cot (of a different brand, of course). Coleman might warranty it, but that would just be another cot in the landfill. So no, I do not recommend this cot based on the several examples that I've seen.
Simple trick to extend functionality
This was for a temporary solution to an extra guest and has remained a functional substitute. After being unable to stretch the fabric enough to reach its intended slot, we improvised. We placed one bar on the designated holes while putting the opposite pole underneath its suggested position. Worked..continues to work.. and continues to be a wonderful addition to our evening amenities.
[Rewarded Review] Coleman Cot
Just received this and haven't taken it camping yet. I did assemble it and laid down for a few minutes. It is very well built and sturdy. Fabric stretches nice and tight, no sag, so should be very comfortable when I use my air mattress laid on top. As others may have noted, getting the last end cross bar into place can be tough. I stand it on end once I have the last cross bar in the end sleeve and use my foot to hold it down while I maneuver the two bars into place. Once the short and long bars are aligned, you can then lay the cot it flat again on its legs and use your hand to insert the post into the retaining hole. Just reverse the process to disassemble.
I personally own three of these. One a guestroom in my townhouse, and I topped it with a twin memory foam topper and use it as an impromptu guest bed when people come over. I have one at work in case I get stuck at work and I have another that I use when I go camping. out of three one of them ripped at the seams. I don’t think it’s supposed to do that and if they made it out of a better quality material or improve their stitching technique, this wouldn’t happen. You can fold them up there enough for you to carry it which is the reason why I purchased them but I wish they made them a little bit better quality and I don’t mind paying the higher price because I do like the product.
[Rewarded Review] Great for camping and house guests
This cot is heavy duty and super sturdy! The length is perfect for my husband who is just under 6 foot tall and my son who’s 5’9”. It will be great for our camping trips when the weather warms up, but it’s also going to be handy to have for when an out of town guest pops by.
This was a great addition to add to our outdoor trips! My husband is 250 pounds and he had no problem laying on this as it was sturdy and surprisingly sturdy! We have used this for a multiple purposes. We have used it at the beach and at the racetrack! You can never go wrong with Coleman as their products are durable and purposeful. The cot folds up to be compact and easy to store and transport. I would definitely recommend this item for those who do a lot of activities outdoors and not just camping as it can be used really at any outdoor outing! 10/10
This cot is built solid - it's on the heavy side, and takes a little muscle to pull tight, but the metal frame and tight canvas construction make it supportive and durable. Comfortable for one person only. I'm 5'4" and its plenty long and comfortable for me to stretch out on. Bed-comparable comfort for single guests at home, or for camping, though it would be too heavy and cumbersome to lug around to distant camp sites. It's nice to be off the ground and feel supported, with no slack or deflation like air mattresses can have. My favorite camping use: comfortable for two people to sit across feom one another playing cards :)
I honestly didn't know what to expect from a military cot, but this is way better than most sofa beds I've slept on. It's kind of like a comfortable hammock opposed to a cot. It was super easy to set up, but it was on the heavier side. I'm not sure if it'd be feasible to camp with this unless it was a site you could pull your car up to. However, I plan to use it as a spare bed when I have guests in my small apartment. I'm 5'3 and the length is great for me, but I feel like a tall person might need a longer cot. The material is the waterproof kind that most camp chairs are made of - it seems heavy duty! I would recommend this for multi-use, not exclusively camping.
This is a really nice cot wide enough for a large person to sleep comfortably. The metal frame is heavy duty and sturdy. It is super heavy and not for backpacking, it's for car camping where you won't mind the weight. It was fairly easy to set up but requires a decent amount of muscle strength. When setting up the cot, first make sure the fabric is centered on the side rails because it can shift. Then, after securing the first bar, stand the cot up on end with the second bar through the sleeve and connected to one peg. Then, hold the second bar down with your shoe and use the cot's leverage to get the second peg locked in. However it was a bit scary stretching the fabric tight. I felt like I might wedge my hand into the frame. I do wish they had a special wedging tool (think, long screwdriver, or crowbar) to get the last cross member in place. Like all stretched cots, it is not the most comfortable. I would suggest placing the Coleman inflatable pad on top of the cot. It folds up really nicely, and the carry-bag is great to make sure you don't lose any of the cross members. All in all it’s a great product.
Kind of heavy, easy to set up, sturdy - Buy one.
This cot is amazing! It’s exactly what I was looking for. I was a little worried about putting it together based on other reviews.. I had no issues putting it together by hand on my own. Ignore those reviews and just get one. Only downside, is it is on the heavier side. Comes with a travel bag though so manageable for short walks.
When I received this in the mail, I noticed how compact the cot was which will make it easy to transport and carry. This was super easy to set up although the poles for the head and feet are a little hard because you need to stretch the fabric really tight. I set this up in my living room as it’s not quite camping weather here in Buffalo. I had my fiancé lay on the is to see how the length and comfort level was for him (he’s such a trooper isn’t he?). As a 6ft guy, he fit on this perfectly. He also said that the cot was firm and comfortable both on his back and on his side. I laid on it too and I definitely agree. I would recommend this Coleman cot because of the quick set up, comfort and durability it brings.
The best thing about the cot is how sturdy it feels and how tight the canvass is while laying on it. I'd say it's pretty comfortable to sleep on for short term. But what makes it so tight is what makes it difficult to assemble and break down. It was easy to set up but a little hard to take down. The cot itself is pretty long and wide and is definitely sturdy. I can't wait to use it at the cabin to sleep more guest or even take it camping. The weight of the cot is decently heavy. I also assembled it with no instructions until I realized the instructions were located/attached inside the bag.
I’m actually impressed! As an avid hiker and camper, I never spend my penny on Coleman products because usually they’re cheap and break within one use. This cot has exceeded my expectations. It’s super wide making it easy if you toss and turn in the night. This cot is really comfortable because the support bars at the end hold the fabric tight and keeps it sturdy. It’s also long enough for me being 5’4”, the max height is 6’2, but I think it would be fine if you’re a taller side sleeper. It also makes a great inexpensive additional bed for a guest. I actually wouldn’t feel bad making someone sleep on this cot because it’s so nice. Also, get this: IT FITS BACK IN THE CARRYING BAG! I definitely recommend this cot at such a great low price of $50-$60.
Plastic Pins, lol
Do you like a cot that you have to be extremely careful not to damage when opening it up, but that you also need a breaker bar to stretch the last end bar slots onto the pins? Did I mention the pins are plastic and will break after awhile?
Weak design ruined a solid cot
I actually haven't had any issues with the material ripping (yet), but there's a pretty big design flaw that rendered my otherwise functioning cot useless. The ends of the side bars have little plastic knobs that fit into holes on the end bars, holding them in place so you can pull it tight. Unfortunately, they're quite weak and because of the way it's designed, they stick out when it's folded up, which means any bumps can easily pop the plastic knob right through (in my case, setting it down on its end to get the bag off), which is made worse by the fact that it's fairly heavy. This means I can't stretch the cot tight anymore, even though the frame and canvas are in fine shape. If the plastic end cap were much thicker or designed better, I'd still have a great cot. It would also help if replacement parts were available, which is a pretty significant flaw in and of itself in a modular product like this one (and leads to a bunch of otherwise serviceable equipment ending up in landfills and polluting the Earth).
It's only 75" long, not 76". Otherwise solid.
It says it's "76" inches long. It is actually 75 inches. I bought this specifically because it claimed to be 76 inches while most others are 75". Otherwise, it seems like a quality product, with heavy-duty, metal construction. Now I understand why the end-bars are extra long on one side. It's because you have to stand on them to stretch it out enough to snap them on. Helpful tip: put one end-bar on both pegs. Put one side of the second end-bar on a peg. Then sit down on all areas of the cot to stretch out the fabric. After that, you should be able to stand on one end of the end-bar to stretch it over the final peg.
