Short pillowcases

Was delighted that the set came with 4 pillowcases. I washed the set before putting it in the bed. They wrinkled a little because I left them in the dryer a bit longer than I should have. Once on the bed , the wrinkles kind of disappeared. Extremely soft for 400 thread count. Everything about this set is great except for the pillowcases. They are not long enough for queen size pillows. If you have standard size flat pillows, this set is a good choice for you. It wasn’t good for me.

Sorry for the long review, but when you have a lot to say, it is usually a good thing. And one note…this is not my first set of sheets from this company. For years I have looked for sheets I would love, and finally I think I have found them. First, I can not stand microfiber sheets as I get pretty hot when I sleep, and once I took a moment to read about how bad they are for the environment I just had to avoid them. Polyester sheets are even worse. Who wants to breathe in carcinogens when you sleep? These sheets, from California Design Den, are 100 percent long staple cotton. FYI short staple cotton, like Upland cotton, is a shorter fiber and used in things like denim and flannel because it is soft and strong. Long staple cotton makes up a much smaller percentage of cotton grown in the US and has a much more lux feel (think Egyptian and Pima cottons). A longer fiber results in a smoother fabric surface and a softer, silkier feel. Of course, being a natural fiber, cotton has some downsides. It is biodegradable-which is a good thing- but it will be prone to wear over time. I really think we need to get over the idea that a set of sheets will last forever! If a set of sheets lasts a few to several years it had done its duty! Also, these sheets will be prone to wrinkles. While I have an aunt that insists on ironing her sheets, I am much to lazy to do that, but the option is yours.

Light, soft, durable, long lasting sheet set

My 13-year-old son was so excited to get new queen size 100% 400 thread count cotton sheets from California Design Den. This is the first time that I’ve heard of California Design Den. I googled the company and learned this about them. Their products are non-toxic and biodegradable. The products are made of pure, natural fibers, that don’t pollute waterways and oceans like bedding made of artificial materials. The company’s approach is planet-friendly, from production to packaging. The queen set is bright white and comes with: 1 flat sheet, 1 fitted sheet, and 2 standard /queen pillow cases. The sheets are soft and breathable. The sheets are advertised to keep their color and get softer the more you use and wash them. I will let you know if this advertisement is true since I’ve only washed them one time. I followed the care instructions by machine washing the sheets on warm gentle cycle and tumble dry low. The cotton material feels light and soft. I feel that this set is durable and will last a long time.
