Great buy and a couple tips

I bought this cat house 2 to 3 years ago, and have seen the strays in my neighborhood really take to it. Currently there are 3 kittens sharing it that were born last August under a bush in my backyard. The kittens are now nearing full size cats at 8 months and they still pile in there together. A couple tips I figured out along the way are; (1) The cats don't like going through the clear plastic flaps on the doors, so initially I left one flap off, since they are removable with a simple velcro attachment. As time went on, my thoughts evolved, and I ended up making a change that they really liked. Instead of leaving a flap off for entry, I decided to fold down one of long side walls. The walls all fold up from the bottom and connect with velcro at the corners, so folding down the wall was really just a matter of detaching the velcro connection and folding the wall under the base. It has effectively turned the heated house into a heated lean to. I keep the open wall facing the wall of my front porch, with the cat house about 4 inches from the porch wall. This lets the cats squeeze between the house and the porch wall to enter their lean to, which they seem to love. They seem to feel very secure in there, they use the clear flaps for looking out, and if they get scared they can bolt out of the lean to lickity split. (2) The second tip I figured out is a solution for the wind blowing the house over. This didn't happen all the time, but on windy days, the house did blow over a couple times, even with the weight of the heated floor. Initially I put a red brick in the house to see if that would work, and it did, but it also took up cozy space for the kitties. It later occurred to me to cut a piece of plywood and stick it under the heated floor for additional weight. I did that, and it has worked great. Definitely a great purchase.

Outdoor heated cat house

I was adopted by a stray that had not been fed. I bought it a bed for the porch and added some fleece material. We were going to have some cold weather for Fla and decided to buy this bed. I put food inside to lure her in to get familiar with it . When nights were high 30’s and 40’s she slept in it all night and most of the day. When you touch the bed it does not seem warm but if you cover it it does warm up. I think this is a safe temp that is comfortable for the cat and no risk of them being overheated but cozy in cold temps. I have this on a porch but it looks like it can withstand snow or rain but I think it is better to have a sheltered area close to electric outlet to use the warmer. I left back cover on and took front entrance cover off to keep it warmer if possible. Kitty was okay with that and loves her cozy bed in cold temps !

Excellent Cat House for Cold Weather

I bought this house to put in my garage and take in a roaming, "unhomed," neighborhood cat for a week during very frigid weather. After putting a few treats inside, he went right in to lay on the warming pad. The electrical cord is not very long and the outlets in my garage are up high so I was limited on location (did not want to use an extension cord). It's the perfect size. He didn't like the clear door flap so I took off the front one and left the back one on. I also covered the back of the house/flap with an emergency space blanket.

A big hit with The Mooch

One of the neighborhood cats, Mooch, hangs out around our house. He has been sleeping in a regular covered fleece cat bed on our front porch, but he was going elsewhere when the nights are extremely cold. I wanted him to have a heated shelter and chose this one. We just got it yesterday, and he didn't go in it. I put catnip on the pad today, and he is now sleeping in it! I hope he stays in it comfortably all night. It really couldn't have been easier to assemble with the velcro attachments and seems sturdy enough for our covered porch location. I'm very pleased with this purchase so far!

Feral cats and Neighborhood cat love them!

We've had a couple of episodes of sub-zero weather and horrendous wind-chill temps. These were literally life-saving for some feral cats that frequent our yard. They used them much faster than I expected. I recommend sprinkling some catnip inside to help them along. I have 2 inside of dog houses and 1 under a large tarp and so far they are staying very dry. They seem well made and easy to Velcro together.

Pretty good, but…

Let me start by saying that the heated pad in this thing is AWESOME! When our feral cat comes out of this house and I feel the pad it’s super warm and is doing exactly what it says it does. So why 4 starts instead of 5? Because the “insulation” is basically nothing. Sure, it’ll keep out the rain and snow (which is great), but the sides of this thing get extremely cold when temperatures drop and I don’t think it holds any kind of heat at all. I worked around this by adding styrofoam to the walls (and rear entrance) and concocting a “roof” of styrofoam as well that’s about half the height of the actual roof on this thing to try and keep the heat in and the cold out a bit better. All in all though it’s a great shelter if u have an outside cat that hangs around and needs some warmth on those super cold January/February nights to help them survive.

Zephyr seems to love his new house!

I've been adopted by a lovely older cat. I'm allergic as are my landlords, so I can't keep him as an indoor cat. Zephyr also likes his freedom and wants to come and go as he pleases. But he spends most of his time outside my front door; I'd fixed him up a box with cozy towels. As winter came, I couldn't bear to see him cold and wet, so I found this little house on Chewy. I was afraid he wouldn't like it, but he seems to be very happy with it. There's no outlet here to plug in the floor warmer; I can only imagine that would make it even better.

My outdoor cats love this shelter!!!

My four cats are indoor/outdoor cats. In the winter months I always had to monitor their location, to make sure they weren’t outside too long in the cold weather. After a month of setting up the heated shelter, all cats have used it, and even prefer to be outside to “observe” their territory!

Cat house for a stranger

I have an "inside" cat (Holly). A month or so ago, a cat I never saw B4 seemed to like my back porch, complete w/chairs and comfy pads. It ran every time I opened the door to the porch. Eventually I coaxed her to me, calling, ''Here puddy, puddy". Within a week she came. Took her to the Vet-no chip, got her "shots", blood work, bought the heated bed, feeders, litter box, toys and more (all from you). Couldn't get her to recognize the bed outside, then it became very cold and now she's in (and outside if the sun is out). I like the bed a lot, but don't know how to get her to use it. It was easy to put together, and it's very cute. BTW, she's called "Puddy" since that's what she answered to.

Very well pleased

Easy to put together (suggest read instructions first to save time) The cats (young mom and her kitten) are using it regularly. I don’t know how well it does outside in severe cold but the cats seem to really like it and are regularly sleeping in it on those nights in the high 30s to low 60s. We had bought an electric blanket with the idea of making our own heated shelter but I believe this is far safer, better looking, transportable, comfortable and more practical than anything I could have come up with on my own. I use this one out doors under the porch/gazebo. I have just ordered a second one that I will put inside my garden shed once the temps drop to near freezing and colder.

It's cute not warm and get soaked in rain

I bought this a while ago and didn't try the pad until now, I thought it was broke because the "heat" is barely noticeable. I don't see how this will do anything at all in the winter to help keep warm. Very disappointed. Going to buy some other heating pad I guess and put in it.

Ideal purchase for several years

A feral kitten adopted us the spring after the polar vortex, so we worried about what would happen come winter. We bought him this house and a heated water dish. We did replace it after two winters, just in case it wasn’t working as well (tough to tell since the “heat” is much cooler than we humans would enjoy), so we are on our second year with house #2. He just loves it. We delight in seeing his paw prints in the snow leading up to his house every morning. It gives us peace of mind knowing that our little vagabond has a place that’s safe and warm when it’s ugly outside.

success

Our K&H heated kitty house was all it was advertised. Our feral kitty has always stayed at a distance, even though I feed it twice a day, winter is coming on and we wanted to try a warming house, after looking around we settled on the K&H house. I placed a small amount of food on a small plate inside to see if it would enter it and the rest of the can in its regular place, it always comes around the house in the same direction, so I placed the house on the porch before the full plate and waited, it came on the house very carefully, and investigated front and back, then took a step in, but didn't stay I repeated this one more time for the next feeding, now it is in the house before feeding time. The house was easy to assemble, and sturdy after I put it together, and looks nice on the back porch. I call that a success! PS I took the removable doors off, I may try to add one at a time in a week or two. Thanks again

Do not waste your time

got this in, it is too small. Great for a very small cat. Biggest complaint I have is that on the cord, it tells you, "DO NOT USE AN EXTENTION CORD". Now when I read the review on this, it says it can be used in barns, etc. No way a barn had a plug in the place you need to put this. My plug on the back patio is right by the door, Cord is not long enough to be useable. The product went together ok, don't care for velcro it tends to break down especially when exposed to weather. the house velcros together, the "small" heating pad sits in the bottom. Because of the cord issue, I would not recommend this item to anyone. will send it back, still in the box.

So Thankful That I Bought This!

I have been taking care of "Yellow Boy," a yellow tomcat, for nearly four years! He is still very shy, but will touch his nose to my fingertip when I hold my hand out to him. He used to live under a vacant house. But, when the owner wanted to close up the foundation, I had to lure him up to our property. This took nearly six months! As winter approached I wanted to find some way to keep him from freezing to death! I bought this heated house and am so thankful that I did. For the first week or so, he only stepped gingerly into it when I put his food and treats inside. Then, I got the idea to set the house inside the small doghouse that I had been using for him. That way it "looked" sort of normal. Within three weeks total he was "sold" on it. I think the zero degree weather we had for a week over Christmas helped him get up his courage! Now, I see him inside of it a lot. I left the back "window" in place, because even I could not see it!! I wish I could put the "front window" in place, but I feel sure that would totally scare him to death! Maybe for next winter. Anyway, this product is a winner and I am so thankful that Yellow Boy is pretty warm and cozy!!

Successful!

We have an outside stray kitty we've been feeding over the past year, and I bought this house/heating pad before the first frost. It took less than 5 minutes for me to put it together - Instructions were clear and fairly easy. I like the way it is constructed and made with good materials. It's sturdy and not cheap looking. First, I put it on the back porch near the door, next to his food dishes, so he would get used to seeing it. Two and a half months later he still didn't use it at all. I'd put his food bowl inside and he'd put two feet in to eat and then leave. Occasionally one of our indoor/outdoor cats would be found in it while waiting to come back inside when it was raining. As it started to get colder we'd find him sleeping on a bench on the front porch. I put the heated pad on the bench, but he wouldn't sit on it. We grew more concerned when an arctic cold blast was coming our way. I brought the kitty house to the front porch, put the heat pad back into it and set it underneath one of the patio chairs. Then I put a cardboard box with an old towel on the bench. He used the box for 2 nights. Then on the third night of temps lower than 10 degrees, he was FINALLY seen going into the house. It took almost 3 months but he loves it now! He is happy and warm and I'm so glad I bought this.

Nice cat house

I bought the olive green. Nicely made. Sturdy. Velcro that holds walls and roof together is strong. Easily folds together and stays in place. It fits a small to medium cat. A larger cat might find it too small. The cat I bought it for does not seem to like the enclosed space, even with the roof partially open, and won't stay inside for very long. So I removed the heated pad and placed on a solid surface in my garage. Within a day she was sleeping on it. I think it heats up to a nice temperature. If she would stay inside the cat house, I think the heated pad and house combined would make a cozy, warm space.

Interior is much smaller than exterior dimensions

We returned this house for the extra wide version. The website lists the exterior dimensions only, but the box it comes in lists both exterior and interior. The interior is about six inches smaller in the width and length. I did not expect it to be that much of a difference. Our cat weighs 8 pounds and is small, but we wanted her to have more room. Exchanging it was a breeze with Chewy customer services. WE LOVE CHEWY! The extra wide is perfect. We also have the heating mat out in the open (on the porch, but not enclosed. This way our cat and dog can have some heat while taking in the scenery or keeping an eye out for critters in their backyard. We love the mat too. Our cat was a little hesitant at first. She was used to sleeping in a converted plastic storage tub with heated microwave beds. But she has adjusted. Thanks Chewy for great customer service.

Feeling relief / 57F inside at 30F outdoor temp

My neighbors don't care about their cat. Last year, I had to bring this beauty inside because they neglected her in 7F weather, but she hated my cats. This year, the neighbors seem to have completely abandoned her and she is def an older model. I have heated cat houses on both my back and (now) front porches, but she def prefers this one. I also have an outdoor therm to make sure the heaters are working properly. At the time of this review: it's 29F outside, but it's 57F in this house!! I check on her frequently since this is new and, every time I put my hand in there, it seems the pad is the perfect temp. It does cool significantly when not in use, which saves energy. But even the full 20 watts is less than leaving an old incandescent bulb on all night. I should also mention that I have a piece of styrofoam between the house and the concrete porch and, although the porch is covered, I loosely covered the top (NOT the INSIDE!) with some bubble wrap and a fall colored blanket to match my decor. The flaps are perfectly fitted and keep air to a minimum and the fleece cover is super duper soft and cuddly. Bonus: it's small enough to feel cozy but big enough that a larger / older cat can stretch a little. She loves this thing and seems to be showing me gratitude when I reach in to give her pets. I am so glad to have this for when seriously bad weather rolls through. My back porch cat house also has a great heat pad from K&H but the house (not K&H) isn't insulated yet, which I am doing tomorrow for other neighborhood hobos. Very, very happy with this house specifically, but K&H in general.
