We're using this as a grab bar for my spouse to steady herself when stepping up the 2 steps from the garage into the house. I replaced the supplied screws with screws more suited to the task. Top and bottom center are replaced with 3" wood screws into the stud. Right side top and bottom are toggle bolts into drywall. Left side top and bottom are molly bolts into drywall (not enough room between stud and door frame for a toggle bolt.) Plenty sturdy. I've hung on it - it's not coming out of the wall. It's decorative enough. It doesn't block access to light switch or garage door opener control - plenty of space on back side of bar. Back of bar is 2-13/16" from wall, 2-1/2" clearance from door frame trim, so very easy to reach behind it to turn on/off garage light switch.

Purchased a crab bar. It was returned. It was pictured with concealed screws the actual bar had visual screws. Was not happy after waiting for the delivery then going to pick it up and the bar was not as described.

i used the handrail outside for a ramp attached to a wall. works great.

Was looking for a no frills grab bar for older parents and this was a perfect choice. Smaller diameter and knurled surface and price was a "home run" from Home Depot!

Why aren't these as standard as a drain?

It's the thin kind, FYI, which is what I wanted. (Not the burly public facility type). I don't know why every bathtub / shower doesn't have these. Mount it vertically, on a stud near the entrance, and you won't have to worry about what soapy slime slick your kids left in there.

It works

I installed this for my wife. It's a good diameter for her small hands. Mounted to a wall stud. Very sturdy. It comes with gaskets to prevent leaks from seeping into the wall so you can mount it in the shower. I chose a screw-mounted style because my wife's safety is worth more than a suction cup.
