Use some pliers to securely close flap/door
Mail box mounted to post by option 2. No real problems except that the flap/door would not shut securely until we used some pliers on it. Would have been nice for the instructions to mention how to make that adjustment. That's the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars. Nice appearance and very functional.
The door does not hold the lock when I get right out of the box, I had to fix it. Why manufacture and ship less than par quality and charge handsome money for it. I bought it at regular price and not sale. It does not come with screws to attach the mailbox. Flag is flimsy and will not last for long. Not impressed with it. We will find out how it holds in the weather in a long run. There are not better choices that I could find even at a higher price.
For the price, you can't beat it. Installed it about 2 weeks ago and it looks sharp. Super easy to install. Some areas were missing the black paint but it was on the underside. Not enough to return or complain about. Solid product. Would buy again.
Cheap product, cheap company
I just bought one of these Architectural Mailboxes yesterday only to get it home & realize that not only was it dented already (the box wasn’t though), but it came with no mounting hardware. What kind of cheap company sells you a product without the hardware to install it? It probably costs them pennies to include the hardware! Is it not enough that we purchased the mailbox from you already? God I hate greedy companies like this. I am returning it & I will NEVER purchase from them again!
Mounting the mailbox.
i like being able to have a larger mailbox because it now can accommodate my prescription packages and other oversized mail.
Replaced Old Mailbox
The mailbox looks great. The medium size mailbox replaced my old mailbox using the same mounting.
Latch stops working
I've purchased two of these and both had the latches fail after an short time. That leaves my mailbox open to the rain and wind. It seems that if the mail carrier is a bit rough with the door, the hinges bend slightly and then the latch won't latch. I had to buy a magnet and attach it to the inside so the door would stay closed.
Great mailbox
We were having trouble with our postman cramming too many small packages in our mailbox with disregard for the delivery instructions. My daughter’s college diploma was folded in half despite DO NOT BEND splattered all over the envelope. Along came this bigger mailbox to save the day for the replacement. It’s large enough to accommodate most of our daily mail traffic without the postman having to come down our long driveway to drop off. It looks classy, is very sturdy and durable, and will last us many years. I originally ordered the larger version which was too big for our mail stake and required more effort than I anticipated to set up. This one fit easily onto our standard mailbox post and easily attached to the frame. It’s a great mailbox for a great price.
My original mailbox lasted 13+ years, at which point our HOA arbitrarily (and mistakenly, as I later found out) decreed that it had to be replaced. I swapped in the new one about ten days ago and it seems to be very well built. Looks like better quality than the original one, so I’m pleased with that.
HUGE
quality of mailbox is fine, but they dont list measurements AND ITS HUGE, its 8 1/2" across , 10 3/4 tall, and a whopping 21 1/8 long = with the door open that's 32 inches long... its basically a packaging mailbox, which woulg be great, if I had any idea what to mount in on! I have that "style" mailbox, its supposed to fix on that style metal "stand", but there's no way it would support that size, weight, and opening and closing it daily. so unless you can afford hundreds of dollars to build a brick support system...its a fail! and I'm very unhappy it did not have size dimensions in the description.
Door latch is no good.
The so-called "adjustable" door latch is just a piece of metal you have to bend with pliers. After several attempts, I have concluded that it can be adjusted to one of exactly two possible positions: 1) Too loose to hold the door closed; and 2) Too tight to close the door.
Top of the Line Heavy Duty Steel Mailbox
The mailbox is sturdy and easy to install. This is the 2nd one we have had like this. The other one got demolished by a work truck backing out of the driveway across the street and it bent it up pretty bad. Would have been destroyed if it would not have been on a steel post and as heavy duty as this. The way the old one stood up, I figured it was time to get another one just like it. I searched everywhere and the cheapest I could find one like this one was $44. I saw that at Walmart if I ordered online I could get it for $29 it was a no brainer. Even after being demolished the old one still had all its paint on it and did not scratch up. I expect this mailbox to last a good while if we can keep the AirBnB people across the street from backing over them. I would highly recommend this mailbox.
The mailbox is great. The only problem I had is the combination of the Adapter for 4x4 Wooden Post and the mailbox. The directions for the adapter are deceptive in that when installing the adapter on forward facing arm, the mailbox doesn't fit on the post. That's because there is a lip all around the bottom of the mailbox. The mailbox hangs off the front of the post, so the lip hangs off and the mailbox hangs over the sides of the post and so does the lip. Finally, the back of the mailbox rests on the post and so does the lip so it's impossible to lay the mailbox flat on the adapter. I fixed this problem by sawing a slit in the post so the lip on the back of the mailbox slides into the slit.
Our 30 year old mail box was severely damaged recently...
Our 30 year old mail box was severely damaged recently by an errant driver, and I needed a box of the exact same size in order to mount on the platform where the original box was installed. I haven't yet been able to take the extensive amount of time that will be required to remove the old mailbox and properly install this new one. However, I've unboxed and examined this new one and am reasonably impressed with how well it is constructed and painted. I can't say if it will last quite as long as the old one did, but it may come close if no one mistakenly runs their vehicle into it!
Gaps bugs spiders water Sharp edge hazards
Fairly priced mailbox with issues. Bottom inside has holes and to insure no sharp edges on those holes for myself or postal carrier I ran my hand across the inside bottom and the one oblong hole edges were very sharp and it sliced my index finger and finger bled. Underneath depth for a standard 0.75in. think mounting board is too deep. Holes on the bottom sides to insert screws to hold mailbox to mounting board holes are too low. There are gaps can be seen looking from inside the mailbox see light through gaps where the side top panel meet the back panel, gaps will allow water, snow, bugs to enter. I don't want Wet mail who would? For price not bad needs help and to fix problems. Bare metal some area missing paint coating under, on inside door.
Cheaply made
The inside of the box and the last 1/4” of the inside of the door closest to the box, including the hinges, was not primed or painted. In our humid and rainy climate, this box will start to rust very quickly.
Good Enough!
Just a little larger than a regular sized mailbox. Basic functions; no "magnetized" door closure, just a snug fit. The flag is metal, not plastic, which is good. All I wanted was a good quality basic mailbox that didn't break the bank and didn't have extra features that added to the cost...THIS IS IT! If you're looking for a decent mailbox that doesn't break the bank, you can't go wrong with this one. Very happy with this purchase.
Might need to do something for the lid to secure a little tighter when closed.
I am thoroughly happy with my larger mailbox. It looks good on the larger thickness mailbox posts. However, my mail carrier leaves the lid open. I think that she slams the lid closed, and it rebounds open. I hung a note to close the lid inside the top of the mailbox with painters tape. I might have to go back to using my smaller mailbox. A neighbor has the same problem with his white one. While at Home Depot, I asked the lumber male to cut a 20" piece of the 1x8 board for the mailbox base. He didn't push it all the way against the backstop. There was 1/4" difference in the length of the 20" board from side to side. If you want something done right, you have to do it yourself.
Easy First Time or Replacement Mailbox
I purchased the Gibraltar Elite Metal Mailbox primarily because it was the only white solution available other than an oversized plastic model that did not fit in at my location. First, this is a basic no frills mailbox, fairly small but near same dimensions as the plastic model I was replacing. It seems well constructed with snug fitting door, easily manipulated flag and gloss white enamel both inside and out. Unfortunately I did not read the box instructions until I was home where I learned that you generally need one of the "sold separately" mounting brackets. However, I forged ahead removing the old mailbox from the post and found that the previous mailbox was sitting on a cut to size piece of composite lumber. The Elite was a bit smaller both in width and length but I managed to use my saber saw to cut down the mounting board to accommodate the footprint of the Elite and then used the screws from the previous installation to secure the mailbox in place. It looks great and as mentioned the door closes snugly keeping out the elements. It is a basic mailbox solution but fits in with the neighbors mailboxes and keeps the mail dry.
Made in USA, Heavier Steel Than Typical
I wouldn't call this a large, but it is a medium in my opinion. I have had the large pacel box in the past, but this meets my needs. Made in USA a plus for me and jobs for us. Nice inside tensioner for closure, but would prefer magnetic. Seems like a nice finish, havier steel than the typical small, smooth design and almost went for the ribbed, but numbers wouldn't apply well. I don't like the plastic hinge on the flag and afraid it will bake.in the sun and leave a hole in my mailbox. Would like to see a metal replacement. Flag is metal. Price was very good and on sale, fits my need great and with the complaints I know those extras would add to the price too. Seems like it will be a good replacement for my old rusty one that has needed replaced for 10 years. I am not happy with the metal post LSDPKB01 Gibralter has, made in Taiwan and had to drill bracket to fit this mailbox, and it will be slightly off center working with existing bracket holes outside of the new hole. Only 1/4 of an inch off but I still know it, and it should have been built for third product. The instruction picture shows the holes, but the bracket didn't have it. Also a two piece post without a bolt to join it. Friction and pounding to secure the two pieces together. Seems heavy though.
