A perfect anti-rodent storage option

I bought this deck box specifically to store birdseed. I needed a metal storage box because squirrels and other animals have previously chewed through plastic and even artificial deck boards to get to seeds. The box assembly was straight-forward but slow and needed some flexibility and dexterity that I lacked but was able to get help. The fit and finish was excellent with one exception - the holes for a padlock shackle did not align. Re-drilling and reinstalling one or the other piece would be simple enough to fix the problem but I was surprised after every other screw hole was so accurately drilled. I also installed adhesive plastic pads to lift the bottom off the deck and allow some air circulation under the box, hopefully avoiding inevitable rust.

Metal Deck Box

I purchased this deck box to store bird feed and food on my deck. The plastic deck boxes I had purchased prior, got chewed up by Raccoons and Squirrels trying to get into the container. This metal box, so far, has prevented these varmints from chewing, to get to the bird food. The box is also decorative and blends in nicely with my deck furniture. The only complaint I have is, the box is difficult to assemble with just one person. You need two people, so one can hold the sides straight, in order to insert the metal screws. Also, my box came without a set of Hex Bolts. I called the manufacturer and informed them. The initial response was from the customer service person was, "go to the hardware store and purchase a set." I told her I would probably end up doing that, since I wanted to assemble the box, that day. Although, I did ask her to send me a set, for possible future use. As of this writing, about a month after I assembled the box, I still have not received the set of bolts. Poor customer service.
