Particleboard

It says wood in the description, but it is actually particleboard. Did take about 1-2 hours to assemble, comes flat-packed. I probably wouldn't have ordered it if I knew it was particleboard. Handles are plastic, though they look silvery. Overall build seems fine and sturdy right now, but time will tell. In my experience, time doesn't usually treat drawers installed in particleboard well, esp. as more and more weight is placed in the drawers.

Its pretty and all, but

The unit itself is attractive enough, and has a small wheel at the front of the file drawer to avoid tipping forward when open. But the drawers only open half way so anything in the back half is quickly lost. Maybe they do that to avoid tipping when the top drawer is fully open. In anycase, i will keep it but i really only got half the additional storage i needed.

Beware, not as advertised!

I'm really disappointed with this filing cabinet for the following reasons:

This cabinet is not fit for purpose!

We bought two of these file cabinets in May, but due to a flood in our basement office, we have only just assembled them. They are not up to the Brick's usual quality and in the bottom drawer, due to the rails being too low, the file folder's don't hang but sit on a slant. Also, you can't pull any of the drawers out pass halfway so it it impossible in some cases to fit anything in them that is longer than they are wide. In the bottom drawer, this means you can't get to the folders in the back without putting your hand in and pulling them to the front, making this drawer impossible to fill if you want access to the folders in the back.

It looks nice and is sturdy, but the instructions are picture only and the absolute worst I’ve ever seen. I’ve put together hanging chairs, desks, book cases, all no problem. The parts aren’t labeled well—there are multiple types of screws and they’re all just shoved into the same container without labeling. Really disappointed with the amount of time it took to put together—hopefully it lasts long enough to be worth it.

Disappointed with this product for three major reasons

Like most have said, sketchy instructions. I've been assembling stuff for awhile now and this one kinda got me. Not too clear in so many areas on how to do what. Small diagram is just not enough. But once you get it, it's an OK piece. Oh, YES...the drawer rails do screw into the bottom of the of the drawers...into the Raw Particle board with no other reinforcement?...you can guess what happens next!

Although it looks good on the outside putting it together was a nightmare. The instructions are visual only and very difficult to decipher what is what. We have done plenty of assembling of furniture from very many different vendors and different places, and this by far was really the hardest.We have put together wall units desks beds couches no problem, but this was not an easy task. Pictures are Or more confusing than If it was outlined by number and by instructions it was very difficult to understand the pictures and the pictures were not very clear on the instruction paper. Not impressed.

This has a slightly more rustic look than I expected, but it is very good-looking, solid, and strong. It would suit a wide range of decor, and looks fine among our antiques. Asian manufacturers have gotten much better at including all necessary parts for the furniture and providing instructions that make sense. The instructions still aren’t perfect but we were able to figure it out much faster than in the past. Overall, we are very happy with the piece, and the price is more than fair for it.

Assembly

This is the 2nd time I bought this item. The first is about 5 years old and still in good shape. Its nice to be able to match items over time. I consider my self very handy but assembly is a bit time consuming and the picture instructions are fairly easy except as noted below. The picture of drawer slides are tiny and its virtually impossible to see correct installation. Youll have to dry fit to make certain you have them correct side up.

Pictures were accurate - we bought this to put next to the Fallon Grey desk and the colors matched perfectly.

Solid little drawer unit

Well made, solid little drawer unit. Well worth the time it takes to assemble - all pieces labelled clearly, instructions simple to follow but you need to carefully check all parts of drawings (we missed gluing the first dowels). Could have had some written instructions included for clarity. Everything lines up well, drawers glide smoothly. I didn't put on the castors but added felt pieces to bottom and bottom front of file drawer to prevent marking up hardwood floor. Fits perfectly under 29" high desk with room for papers or pencil trays on top of unit.

All were clearly marked. One thing that I didn't appreciate from the online photo is that the file drawer has a wheel at the front that keeps the drawer level as one pulls it out. Overall, I am pleased with the product and it will suit my needs perfectly as it will be the drawer unit for the Murphy style bed with desktop that I am installing in my office/guest room. When I have guests, the desk will disappear when the bed comes down, and I will be able to wheel this unit out to another location, keeping my private files private.
