I would not buy this 4x8 crop cage again.
I purchased the 4X8 crop cage in May of 2022. The screen is fine but the tubes and connectors have rusted out and the plastic connectors have broken. I am very disappointed at the quality of this cage!!
Loved it so much that I bought another for next year
so convenient! no more birdnet or chicken wire to deal with!
Awesome product
Every year we lost all our blueberries to deer and birds. Not anymore. I purchased one of these and am picking loads of blue berries. I will order more for my other raised beds.
Excellent Protection for my Zucchini , Peppers and Eggplant
Pretty easy to assemble. I put it on top of our large deck and my stepson used tie wraps to attach the bottom pipes to the planks of the deck. It's help up two seasons and I'm getting a nice amount of production out of the plant without having to worry about birds or other animals attacking the vegetables. I'm thinking about ordering another one for my tomato plants next year.
I only bought because of reviews
Not enough closure on the bottom. The mesh was useless against squirrels, chipmunks and birds. Waste of money. All my blueberries were eaten by animals.
Crop cage for protecting blueberries.
Easy to set up and like the way to access the blueberries through the zippered panels. Unfortunately, during the second year the squirrels have made holes in the netting. Would be best to have a stronger net?
Yes, if the netting was squirrel proof
It worked well until the squirrels bit through the netting. Holes all over the place...I attached chicken wire with cable ties all around except for zipper area. Going to make a big screen with pvc pipes and chicken wire for the front zipper area
Useful cage
I have owned the cage about 5 years now. Generally, it has kept out the birds and deer. There has been rusting on the poles, but that has not been a problem. The bigger problem is the net. The deer have chewed holes in the netting which I have had to repair. And as it ages, the net gets looser and the ties at the bottom don't make a tight fit to keep out smaller critters.
Not durable enough: great idea, mediocre implementation
I use these about 4 months each season. This is the fourth season, so they have 12 months of use. The zippers are failing. They need to use a heavy duty zipper. The netting could be a bit heavier duty as well. Some of the tie-ribbons have also torn loose from the netting.
Need to offer a replacement net.
Have had to repair several holes with window screening because the squirrels chewed four holes in the netting. Have had the cage for two growing seasons. This year will be the third. Getting access to my produce is fairly easy with the two zippered doors.
I would buy again, but apply rust-oleum to poles.
I have used a 4 x 8 cage for 3 years. The net is still intact, but two sets of poles have rusted and collapsed. The first set of poles lasted for 2 years. The second set rusted and collapsed after one year. The Gardeners Supply representative said that it should not have collapsed after one year, and that Gardners Supply will send me another set of poles for free. I'm pleased with their policy. The representative suggested applying rustoleum before using the new set. I will do that. I love being able to grow tomatoes again. Deer are abundant in the neighborhood, but they are not able to reach the tomato plants inside the cage. With the zippered doors, I can work the garden and pick tomatoes easily.
Not worth the cost as the tubing rusts and net tears
I have created my own cage with plastic piping, but need to be able to obtain a new net and do not see it offered. Do not need or want the pipes again.
Gardens Supply stands by there 100% guarantee
I had issues with the zippers on the net coming apart. Initially it upset me since it wasn't that old. After I contacted GS customer support, they quickly resolved the issue.
Works perfectly.
Great product. Worked as promised and I got a full season of squash. I highly recommend.
Sapling Winter Protection
For the cost, the materials used are sturdy and I can protect my saplings from rabbits and deer.
Bars Rust
A matter material for the bars
I have three of them and looking to get a fourth! :)
I love these cages, even though not recommended on the product description I keep mine up all year. So far so good they have withstood loads of bad weather admirably.
Does not do job
Fairly easy to assemble but ties are useless had to supplement with plastic ties
So far, so good
The downside is I have to use it.. It fits exactly inside the frame of an 8x4 raised bed. I use earth staples instead of ties to hold the net down. Chipmunks still tunnel under it, come up inside.
Bunnies and Squirrels Chewed In
The bunnies and squirrels chewed their way right in and created a lovely hole that birds can also get through now- now I need to let birds OUT vs keep them out. Really bummed.
