Reviews
The mailbox post was pretty easy to install, although we used our existing in-ground stake instead of the included state. Our post had rotted but the stake was intact, so there was no need to remove the old one and use the new one. The post seems sturdy and came will all needed hardware. It looks nice.
SATISFIED
Mailbox is satisfactory with the exception of the backside of the post. It is very rough and did not get smoothed over. Glad it is in the back and cannot be seen. I painted the post the same color as the mailbox and it looks much better!
I had some problems.
This is exactly the post I wanted, so I'm overall happy. I did have some issues, though.
The metal stake should be sharpened on the end that will be in the ground. This being a soft metal, when hammering it in the ground, the top that makes contact with the hammer gets smashed, then requires a file to fit the top into the hole in the cedar post. The metal post that is out of the ground, once hammered in the ground, should be longer to stabilize the post more.
Difficult installation, flimsy post
I do not recommend this mailbox post. The post was rough and not very sturdy. We will have to sand and finish it in order to avoid splinters and protect it from the elements. Installation was complicated by the fact that the hole at the bottom of the post was not long enough for the drive-in metal stake. Despite our efforts to hammer it in, the drive-in metal stake would not fit all the way into the post. It seems like an easy installation but is not if your post has similar issues.
Cheap wood, split upon install
I guess you have to decide between post hole digging and driving a stake in when getting a new mailbox post. I did not want the post hole digging variety. I read plenty of reviews and know this thing can just drive the stake in further when trying to tap in the top post, so I drove the stake in, concreted in the top 6 inches 4 inches diameter, let it dry two drys, oiled the hole in the post, tapped in pretty gently with a 4 lb sledge (75 or so taps were needed to get it to ground level) and it split on the last tap or two. Not to the middle hole, but off to one side like an inch from one of the corners. So there was no pulling the post back off and I had to mend it with cement the best I could. The mailbox mounting board was quite undersized and mailbox holes were even with bottom of the board so one of them blew out. Had to drill holes at an upward angle but that part worked out ok in the end. I finally got it done but everything is a degree or two off and the post is bound up with cement and duct tape until tomorrow. This thing is not returnable once you drive the stake in and tap the post on so you have to make do.
Simple
Pretty good simple mailbox post. No digging! A little wobbly, but adequately stable and secure. May be left natural and unfinished or painted. Good way to go. Looks good too.
Recommend, with heads up to buyers
Like other reviews, product does not look as nice as the advertisement. I will need to stain/paint and treat it. I was hoping that I wouldn’t have to but was prepared for the possibility. This will work if you need a quick fix and are willing to do a little extra to make it look nicer.
Nice mail box support
Easy to assemblr and install, be sure to drive metal support stake into post before stiing the post in the ground. I added a pair of metal supports into the ground fore and aft using a pipe to drive in once the post was set for extra stability. I also cut the botyom end the support metal spike with a hacksaw into a point for easier driving into the ground.
Serves as a Good Temporary Replacement
My daughter backed over my mailbox, so I needed a quick replacement. This fit the bill. Instead of getting a handyman and pouring concrete, I was able to quickly install this myself. You need to hammer in a metal post and slide the hole in the support post over it. It was pretty hard to fit it in, but that made for a tight fit. Even so, the mailbox slightly leans. Obviously not as good as setting the post in cement but a lot easier and allows time to decide on a permanent replacement.
I bought this to mount a camera on actually near my backyard pond. Have caught plenty of raccoons, opossums, skunks, deer, mice, frogs, etc on camera, and we are in an urban downtown in NJ. This is the perfect size/shape for a rotating remote camera, in case anyone who needs this solution sees this. You can mount the camera underneath the long side and put the solar on top with velcro.
This cedar post is nice and was somewhat easy to install. We did come across a couple issues which did make the whole installment a little longer. First the post broke when using the sledge hammer to put the post in the ground. My husband had to use wood glue to repair it. Also, there was one piece that was cut incorrectly that my husband had to fix in order to make the mailbox level. In the end we painted the post and it looks great. It was also super easy to paint. Overall we really like how it came out. I received this product for free from Influenster in exchange for my honest review.
Poor finish and low quality hardware
I almost returned this item because the cut out in the cross piece was so uneven that it set crooked on the post. However, it's a long drive to Home Depot and I wanted to get my mailbox installed so I used a chisel to even it out. It's still not perfect, but it worked.
[Rewarded Review] Great product
This post came right on time.my neighbor slightly backed into my old mail box post. My old one was not very sturdy. This new product was very easy to install, so easy I did it myself. Its taller than my last one which was much better for the postal person. I even changed the position of my box, now it should not get bumped or backed into.
Way too wobbly :( Returning it!!
I bought this for my parents and installed it myself. The directions sounded pretty easy and claimed to not need cement.
