Reviews

Didn't look like pictures. Poorly painted.

Rain barrel was well made and had nice features but did not look like the photo at all. The photo makes it seem wood colored, but the actual barrel was more the color of pumpkin pie, and the black bands were sloppily painted with bare spots and drips. Wasn't worth the premium price. Easily returned thankfully and the people at the store were helpful and friendly.

Wrong color

The warehouse shipped the "old" terra cotta color instead of the "new" terra cotta color. Wouldn't have mattered except the bases I ordered were the "new" color! The rating would have been lower except for the exceptional customer service during the process. All that said, I love the quality and functionality of the Wizard barrels!!!

Really terrible idea

Bought two of these months ago. Finally gave them away this week. They are perfect, except for one fatal flaw. The planter on top is a terrible idea. It is not "self draining", and if you do actually put a plant there, it will forever drip brown sludge down the tiny drain hole. Also, you will be hand watering said plant for the rest of your life. I will admit, I did not realize this was such a horrible idea until after I bought them, so I'm trying to save you the trouble.

Excellent Rain Barrel

Well-made rain barrel with good capacity. This is the third barrel of this model I have purchased over the years.

Issues with delivery in online purchase

I purchased this item online. Issues with delivery caused it to be sent back. Now it is no longer in inventory. Cost me time and money that i could have spent on a more reliable business. I like TSC but will never puchase anything online from this business. And at least 70% of my general shopping is online.

[Rewarded Review] Attractive Rain Barrell

Well-made and easy to put together. You have to be careful to properly screw in valves to prevent leakage. It was very easy to cross thread the valves during assembly.

A few improvements needed.

The barrel is large and holds a lot of water. Very stout construction. It’s nice that the spigots come preassembled. I do not like that the second spigot is only halfway up the barrel. This would make an excellent overflow spigot, but it would be better placed about 3/4 of the way up the barrel. Also, the plastic cover to the inlet has a mesh grate to it. This greatly prevents water flowing through it. When I have my downspout pouring directly onto it, most of the water comes out the front instead of going into the actual barrel. I had to remove this cover.

A nice looking quality rain barrel.

This rain barrel seems like a good quality product. I have not yet installed it under my gutter, but it is attractive and durable. I did not give it 5 stars only because it does seem rather expensive, but maybe that is what it takes to get a quality product.

Rain barrel

Love the size. Unfortunately not fond of the top. Holds water which is a great means for mosquitoes. Also not able to remove lid. Not sure yet how to clean inside of barrel. There is no access

Don't waste your money

As with MANY rain barrels, the weak point on this one is where the valve screws into the barrel. Purchased through. Began leaking after only 2 weeks... added sealant around the valve and that hasn't stopped the leaking. The leak is at the rate of about 2" of water per 24 hours, emptying in about 2 days. We had THOUGHT that having a metal valve would have minimized this problem, but, alas, this is NOT the case. VERY DISAPPOINTED and would NOT recommend this item to anyone!

This is a replacement barrel for one I had for years that I used constantly. I got it May 21, 2020. The back has buckled already - less than 2 months. I’ve tried draining the top half (we’ve had lots of rain) and using it a lot but I know it’s not going to last and may even collapse. The first barrel was made so much better! Stay away from this one and don’t make the expensive mistake I did.

This does not have the brass spigots as shown. Looks very cheap. The bad news is I was excited and had one mailed to my father in Florida for Father's Day. Very disappointing. I am returning mine. His has not been delivered yet. I am crossing my fingers that he got what I ordered. Don't take the chance and buy this. I have seen many that are much nicer.

Has it's draw backs

The top does not come off, so you have no way to clean it. My other rain barrels would get pollen and other debris and I could turn them over and scrub them out. I can barely get my hand in the small hole in the top of this one, so clean out will be next to impossible. The product is nice, but without being able to get the top off, I would not recommend it to others.

The rain wizard really works great when we had a hard rain last week it filled the barrel full and I have used that to water my flower garden. It works great and is easy to disburse the water out. So this rain wizard is exactly what I wanted to serve my purpose of saving water. It also looks good in the yard.

The barrel does it's job. I had an issue at first threading the bottom front spigot on with the Teflon tape until I tried with just the spigot. It threaded fine with tape after that. The box was damaged and barrel was dented upon arrival. Thankfully it rained and filled completely and that popped it out. I was able to connect a hose with no issues to drain some water for test.

For the money I paid I expect at least something close, completely unacceptable. If it just so happens my box was mislabeled, because it does look like the colour khaki that’s advertised, than I’ll remove this review. As of now avoid this product at all cost it’s over priced but I was fine with that knowing it looked like how I envisioned and couldn’t find anything else similar, unfortunately the colour is just so far off. Product took two weeks to ship so if this review is still here over a month from now you can expect complete trash sitting at your doorstep if you order this. 2019/05/14

have had this rain barrel for a year now-It is functional and holds rain water well. my only complaint is that there is a dip in the front so the overflow has an immediate way to escape-and to keep keep the barrel from exploding. However we had the barrel on pavers and after an exceptionally rainy period the overflow runoff from the dip literally displaced the stability of the pavers underneath the barrel. Now my husband is going to place cement there instead.

Though we haven't had rain yet I am sure they will work fine with a few modifications. They are: (1) change the screens a to s they are too tight in mesh to allow much water to get through. (2) The height (above ground) of the screen is higher than the overflow cutout on the front top of the barrel. This allows water not getting through the screen to immediately get lost through the overflow and not get into the barrel. Technically this is not an overflow. An overflow should only come into use after the barrel has filled up. This is a major design flaw. I bought (4) of these based on reviews. They do not have any true overflow which should be on the side of the barrel. There are two closed outlets that allow coupling and these could be used as overflows. Barrels look great but the major design flaw of the cutout overflow(which will need to be modified) and the too fine mesh scree are a real disappointment for the price. They need to go back to the drawing board on this. I would not purchase this item again. It also needs a completely removable top. Disappointed to say the least

Pretty darn good rain barrel. The two brass spigots are essential (although they feel a little flimsy maybe? time will tell...). The overflow "tube" needs to be drilled open, but that's a pretty simple operation. I don't understand the function of the spillover catch basin that forms the top/center of the barrel. MOST of the water that enters the basin flows right out, but not all of it, which makes it a breeding ground for mosquitos. But overall, a very good, seemingly sturdy product. Oh yeah -- the "oak" colored barrel doesn't look anything like any oak I've ever seen. "Slate grey" would be a more appropriate name for the color.

LOVE IT !!!!

The barrel came when I was out. My husband removed it from the box and put it together before I got home. The fact that he did this without any complaining when I got home speaks volumes!!! We've had lots of rain here in NH so the barrel filled quickly. Today I purchase flowers for the planter on top of the barrel. I will put an inch or two of stone on the bottom to avoid plants from sitting in water after a heavy rain. I may even purchase another one.
