Non slip stair treds
These have been on my stairs for a couple of years, I have a split foyer with a glass panel front door so they get full sunlight daily. I have the gray, they haven't faded at all but the backing has just recently started to fail. They have stayed well gripped to the stairs for a long time, I didnt need any carpet tape but now they're starting to slide around a bit. I will probably add some hardwood safe tape to them. But they've lasted a long time and weren't very expensive.
Perfect solution for our dog
As our dog has gotten older, the 16 hardwood steps he takes to get downstairs intimidates him. Have to find a solution fast! These non-stop stair treads are perfect. I loved how I could order 14 (yes, I couldn't cover the top and the bottom step) but it was just right to get him going. The material is soft and, as I chose the dark brown, it blended in with the stain of the stairs. No slippage and our boy now has his confidence back!
We have hardwood floors throughout our home. We adopted a puppy and at first, he was able to run up the stairs well, but something happened, and he refused to run up the stairs, but rather stand at the bottom and bark...at all times of the day and night. We ordered these treads and they worked like magic! Milo runs up no problem, and we notice that they quiet the squeaks of our older home. What were we waiting for?! Great purchase for us. We have not put down tape, and they work just fine with no slipping.
Be aware of the different size treads.
The color is right on. I've had these treads for 9mo now. I like that they are washable. The issue I have is a few of the treads have began to start pulling apart for no reason. I just snipped the random threads off and it has not continued to pull anymore. I would recommend this product. Keep in mind of the length if your steps. I purchased treads that cover a larger portion of the steps.
Works like we expected
We were basically looking for skinny rubber bottom bath mats. This fit the bill. They arent luxurious, but exactly what we expected. Our stairs are super slick and our aging dog had fallen down them twice. She was nervous to go down anymore. As soon as I placed the covers on the steps, she bounded up and down them again, no problem. They will move if you really push hard, but I had a hard time nudging them with my foot. Now, thats the opposite when you lift them, they slide crazy easy then. Overall, I'm totally happy with them because i don't have to carry the dog down the stairs anymore.
We had just replaced our carpet with wood stairs and were most concerned for our animals and family slipping on the new stairs. After reading reviews we ordered and installed these stair treads, not sure if they would work. They work great! They are grey in color which goes with everything and don't slip at all. Likes: good traction and very affordable price. Dislikes: just wish they had a few more pieces and maybe some larger sizes for the two landings. Would buy this again if I needed to.
[Rewarded Review] Awesome !
I got these for our basement stairs. The stairs are covered in tiles and cold all the time so this carpet is just perfect for what I needed. They do stay put cause of the rubber. The carpet is very soft and so nice at touch. The whole bottom part is a skid soft resistant rubber and all you do is get them out of the package and lay them on your stairs. I'm sure they will do just great after during wash. They're good quality.
[Rewarded Review] Easily installed
Was looking for a quick fix for our open basement stairs and also provide something that would appease my fur baby Rat Terrier Mix. She was scared of the open wood stairs. These Ottomanson set of 7 skid-resistant rubber backing carpet pieces worked great on our minimally used basement stairs, but provided the security and comfort for myself and my fur baby. The color of these Ottomanson carpet treads (Softly Brown) is great because as my spouse says, they are the color of dirt, so hide any real dirt. These are great for a quick fix down stairs that are minimally used.
Updating my review- These were great at first but now less than a year later they are completely worn out. I recently had to pull them up to wash them. The rug tape that I had to use to keep them in place on the stairs pulled off the rubber backing, which then also led the carpet to come apart. Very unhappy! Wish I had only paid the $19 that it says they are now! Original review: For the price, these are great. Rug tape is needed to keep them in place though, even with the rubber backing. My old dog is now able to walk up our hardwood stairs. When we first moved in he would sit at the bottom and whimper. These did the trick.
So, I have to give these a fair rating because the edges are already coming loose. They reminded us of bathroom rug texture. That was fine in the first few days. After that I realized they probably aren't going to be very durable for long term. The color is exactly what I was hoping it would be. The size is excellent. In the past my stair treads have been a bit narrow. These are proportioned very well. It really is disappointing the way they are not holding up as I would have hoped.

Provides traction on the stairs that isn't rubber. I highly recommend using something to keep the tread in place. I used 3M Command Rug Anchors to keep the treads from moving. The rubber backing is good but they still want to "walk" on the step. The rug is thin but looks OK. Have to see how they hold up over time. I've had them installed for about 3 weeks and only had one rug loop pull out. Still, I would recommend them as a relatively cheap alternative to a fully installed runner carpet with padding. Far less expensive and easily replaced if it gets damaged or too dirty and won't come clean.
Use tack spray!
I got these for my dog, like many other reviewers. I put them on freshly painted and polyed steps. They look good and feel good under foot. They were sliding around a bit and I had to come up with a solution to hold these in place that wouldn't wreck my new paint. Enter Krylon Easy Tack! It's a repositionable adhesive (like on a Post it) spray. There's other brands of tack spray, but the Krylon was the least expensive. Home Depot does not carry any kind of tack spray, but Michael's Crafts carries several brands. Anyway, I sprayed the back of each tread, let it dry for 1 minute, then attached to steps. It works perfectly at keeping them in place without damaging your steps. And they are super easy to pull up to shake out. Just sweep the step and reattach.
They're pretty cheap-looking in person, and they are that chenille-like fabric that leaves a mark when you step on it or touch it. I didn't mind too much since they're just for my basement steps and they were cheap...but when we went to put them on (we used carpet tape bought from HD because we were worried they weren't secure enough), THE TREADS ARE OF VARYING WIDTH. Some are really obvious...we had to group them by approximate width and hope that it's not noticeable that some are a good couple of inches shorter than the 26 inches given. In a nutshell, I wouldn't buy these for your main staircase--they look cheap, they show any touch/footprint, and worst of all, they're not uniform size so it could end up looking really sloppy. Fine for noise reduction/stability on less visible stairs, but I would not put them in a visible place.

Very pleased with stair treads. Accurate description. Color shown matches color received. Have very dark brown wood floors and steps. This shade of brown (lighter than a very dark brown) complements my steps. Machine washable. Purchased gripper tape, but have not applied. Noticed that after walking up and down the stairs over three days (approx.)...the treads lie flat and do not slide. Have two small dogs, and they are now able to go up and down stairs without slipping/sliding.
Look kinda cheap but that's cuz they were ...
I have a double set of curved staircases and two large, arthritic dogs. I pretty much had no choice but to put some sort of padding on the stairs and, with the curved treads, the longer pads (say, 29 inches which seems to be common in this sort of tread rug) are just too big so choices are limited. These are just OK looking ... they do look s bit "cheesy" and they constantly shift and slide about (though a piece of carpet tape under each would solve that problem but would make it more difficult to pick them up and shake them out regularly which I definitely need to do). I got these on sale but, if I hadn't, I would have looked harder for a style that offered a "single" purchase option as I had to buy a whole extra set for an additional 3 treads I needed (I guess I have an odd number of stairs due to non-standard ceiling heights ... not sure). These will serve their purpose as long as the purpose is not to look beautiful!
You get what you pay for
Purchased them for the brand new wooden basement stairs. The color and material are fine, but the size is not uniformly, one inch and more different in both length and width from one another. The most problematic part is the vendor's claim that they would stick to the floor, adhesive unnecessary. Not true. They slip around, so bad that I had to buy double-sided adhesive tape to keep them in place. I hope my brand new stairs won't be damaged when I have to remove them for cleaning.
Perfect Solution...
As mentioned by several other reviewers, these stair treads are a great solution for pets especially as they age. Prior to installing these treads, I've seen my dog's back feet slip out from under her causing her to stumble down my deck steps. It got to the point she would freeze at the second step down and would go no further until I went down ahead of her. After installing these treads her trip down is confident and without accidents, however she is still a bit cautious coming back up. Knowing that carpet tape could be a mess getting back up, I decided to use my staple gun to install these treads using one staple in each corner and one in the center, being careful to tap the staples down flush. The rubber backing seems to add both stability as well as padding and I expect to have a painless experience removing the treads when the time comes to stain my deck. I find the Softy Stair Treads to be attractive, functional, and priced right.
Decorative Safety at a Good Price
Great treads! We needed them because it was hard to distinguish between the last stair and the actual landing. There are plusher ones on the market but these are ideal. The rubber backing provides the non-slip security that is needed on the stairs. These treads are extremely easy to maintain, either sweeping or vacuuming, and wash. Plus, these treads are comparable to those that you can find on other websites at much higher prices.
Good Value for the cost
We were looking for some stair tread carpet pieces for our oak stairs but many options were too expensive until we came across these at Home Depot. We have dogs that are skiddish about going on the bare wood stairs ever since we remodeled about 2 years ago. We purchased two packs (14 pieces total) in the solid gray color and they arrived in about a week. Per some previous reviews, there are some color variations between pieces, but they are very minor. I did not use any tape to hold them down, and so far after about 2 weeks they seem fine. There is some minor movement of the carpet pieces on the stairs, but not enough yet to make me want to tape them down. Overall a very good value. I'll be curious to see how they hold up after time.
Excellent Value
Item arrived quickly. I had previously installed new oak treads including cherry stain and 4 coats of gloss polyurethane and wanted something to help protect the wood without breaking the bank. These little guys were priced right, installation simply involved placing them on the steps, and they weren't so large as to obscure all of the wood. There was a little variation in the orientation of the threads on a couple pieces which very slightly affected the uniformity of color shading depending on the way the light hit them, but that wasn't a big deal. Also, they don't stay put completely as is, need a little repositioning occasionally, but again, I don't find that to be a big deal. Great value and I like the look on the stairs. Would buy again. My neighbor saw them and has ordered them for herself.
