Keeping the mind busy
So far we are loving our new toy for our 12 month old Boston terrier. Instead of our deliveries being torn apart she is now spending quality time on her new toy. Figured the outer section quickly but the middle is a good challenge for her.
Too Hard
When you place the Kibble in the containers on the outside, the kibble gets stuck in the corners and the dog gets very frustrated that he can not get at it. The center section is very hard for the dog to align to get the pellets in the cups and becomes increasingly frustrated. In theory, this works but in practice (real life) it is way too hard and frustrates the dog. If you are going to buy a Nina Ottosson Puzzle, stick to level 3.
Good robust interactive toy
I got this for my 21 month Collie X Cavalier. After reading some reviews I was afraid she'd just destroy it but as it was on offer and I was recovering from illness (and feeling guilty) I decided to get one. To start with she tried brute force and chewing but with a little coaching (yes, you do need to help them get the hang of it) it kept her entertained for a full 20 mins until nearly all the treats were found. She mastered the outer squares quite quickly but finds the inner section more challenging. After 2 rounds (with a refill) she laid down for a kip! 🤣 It won't be suitable for all dogs, no, but if you have a clever dog that finds normal hide and seek games or treat toys too easy, then I'd definitely give this a go. Also good for slowing down a "guzzler" by putting some of their kibble in this instead of the bowl.
Sturdy af!
This puzzle is built as one solid piece so there’s no extra rattling when it gets slapped around. The pieces are strong and built well, the pieces only move in the direction they’re supposed to. The middle circles have a hole so the pups can smell the treats which keeps them very motivated! I have a 55lb dog and an 80lb dog and there are a few surface scratches but it is holding up really well!
Challenging puzzle
Although I like to think my eight-year-old Cavapoo is brilliant, I probably should have worked up to this with progressively easier puzzles. That said, the key word for this right now is "sturdy"...she tends to go at it with the frenzied energy of a much larger breed of puppy. The videos are hilarious. After about 15 or 20 minutes, she gives up, stares at it and cries until I try to show her the remaining treats.
Treat toys/slow feeders
I have a nearly year old Mini American Shepherd. He is pretty below average with regard to intensity, yet can destuff with the best of them. He very quickly figured out how to pry the covers out to get the kibble, and also to pry out the center disc. Fortunately, I have only lost one of the covers to extended chewing (my bad). Turns out there are a least a few ways for a smart dog to circumvent the ‘game’ design. Overall the design is interesting and while not super resilient OK in that way. I’m just not sure what the volume is on the dogs that are smart enough to use it and too impatient to short cut.
Great challenging toy!
Excellent toy for challenging our pups. There is a little training involved and it is not a toy to be left with a dog while they are alone. Ours tried to chew it so we instructed on how to get the treats and then put it away until the next play time.
High quality, challenging puzzle
High quality, tough puzzle. Our Golden Retriever figured out the peripheral squares easily, but struggles with the locking circle. Thankfully it withstands chewing, clawing and being thrown down the stairs. We put his meals in it and it takes him over 5 minutes to finish (the circle requires our help still), instead of his usual 90 sec with his “slow feeding” bowl. Would recommend it for a highly driven mid-size to large dog.
I wont recommend this
I've had the prior few levels of this game and bought it at chewy I was very disappointed at this level of the game. I gave it a try and have given this for my dog to play for over a month now every other night. It's too hard. I have a silky terrier, he's very intelligent with these games, but this puzzle was much more for humans than dogs. It didn't seem to push his intelligence for instincts growth. I don't recommend this, don't waste your money!
Amazing puzzle, my dog loves it
My cocker spaniel x cavalier lives for food and is a very smart boy (too smart for his own good sometimes). He's been using this to eat his breakfast and dinner for about 6 months now and it's fantastic.
My dog really loves this but does it all wrong!!!
My dog loves this puzzle. He loves having to find treats in it to the point he will find the treat, take it out and leave it cos he's not hungry he just likes the game!
Multi puzzle Dog Toy
This seemed like a good idea, our seemingly especially clever English springer spaniel likes to learn new things. I was excited to get it, we had two other less challenging Outward Hound puzzles which she mastered quickly and without damage. But this one was hardly challenging. I filled the toy with some kibble and turned on iPhone video to see how long it would take her to get the prizes. It took her 27 seconds to figure out the tiles could be popped out to reach the kibble, no need to slide anything. If I did not take it away from her, she would have finished the kibble and then gone on to chew up the green tiles. I hope others have more luck with it.
Lots of fun!
This item is huge! Which I love, lots of places to hide treats or kibble. The green pieces are easy to move, so my german shepherd/husky mix finds the treats at a decent speed. It takes her a while to figure out how to work it out to get to them though. The orange circles are a lot more harder for her to figure out. She gets frustrated quick and stratus to scratch and bite at it and she ended up shoving 2 underneath, but it wasn’t too hard to take them out. Somedays she understands how to get to the treats, others not so much.
Refund, please.
I gave this puzzle to my border collie on Christmas day & he soon figured out how to move the squares. 2 days later he figured out how to turn the dial for the treats. As he got better with it he was also able to completely remove a square tile. It was harder for me to replace the tile than for him to remove it. Today he removed all the tiles except one, & two of the red covers are missing. This toy is not sturdy enough to stand up to a smart, determined dog. I wish to return this purchase that lasted only 10 fun filled days and have the amount I paid refunded to me. Thank you
