This bookcase was a surprise in that the wood is very solid and free of defects. After putting together a lot of furniture purchased online, I have found this to be a rarity. It was packed very well and the instructions were easy to follow.

A top quality and low cost bargain

High quality hardwood with beautiful grain. Easy to assemble. Solid as a rock with no wobble or unsteadiness after assembly. Excellent packaging with not a scratch on the wood. You may want to varnish to bring out the natural grain.

Went together easily. Sturdy. Used an oil base clear gloss poly to finish, it came out lovely. Light, like a loose grained maple.

Once assembled, it's handsome and sturdy. Printed instructions are minimal — mostly pictures. Took about 90 minutes to lay everything out on the floor, figure out which screws were which, and which pieces of wood were meant to go which way, etc. (But you could probably assemble a 2nd one in 20 minutes once you knew how everything fit together.) Also, it definitely needs a coat of lacquer or paint afterwards, since the surface really is unfinished and otherwise likely to pick up smudges or water stains over time.

I love the bookshelf, very clean lines and sturdy. Only one problem, one of the pieces to secure a shelf to the support the holes and the support that they were to go through did not match up. Someone put a piece on the wrong side. I made it anyway as I didn't think the support needed to be attached and it was fine.
