Reviews
I love my Keurig coffee machine. I’ve owned a few different ones over the years and this is my most favorite one. Makes good coffee in a few seconds. The coffee tastes good. It’s easy to descale it every few months. It has different setting that you can save for easy brewing. One thing I don’t like is that if there’s not enough water in the container the machine will burn without giving you any warning. I wish it would automatically stop brewing if there was not enough water. This way I’ve broken a few machines. They should come up with more advanced technology for the machine to shut down if there is not enough water.
LOVED IT, UNTIL . . .
Keurig … DO NOT BUY KEURIG COFFEE MAKERS! Keurig is well aware of issues that render the coffee maker I received as a gift 7 months ago, yet they are still taking money from trusting consumers, all the well knowing it is only a matter of time before it stops working! I received as a gift for my birthday last year. In 7 months of light use, it stopped working. I descaled and cleaned it regularly. I researched on the internet and, lo and behold, there are all sorts of posts and videos of issues with Keurig coffee machines that stop working within a short period of time. So I called customer support who kept saying don’t worry, we will take care of you. Told me to brew coffee without a pod. Started to work, then stopped again. I was then put on hold within 2 minutes, he came back on and told me it cannot be fixed but not to worry, they would replace it. Really? It’s 7 months old. Still looks new! And all they did was trouble shoot onetime and know it needed replaced! Hmmm . . . Sounds like I wasn’t the first with this issue. All the need is a receipt. But I got it as a gift. I do not have a receipt. They told me all I have to do is ask whoever gave it to me for the receipt. Really? I am very uncomfortable and do not feel comfortable in asking for my brother in law for the receipt. Why? Well, If he does not have it, he and his wife will feel bad and most likely go out and buy a new one. THEY SHOULD NOT HAVE TO! I’m not doing that! I am not going to put them in that position. Who keeps a receipt for a gift they gave to someone else, 7 months ago? I understand KEURIG’s policy is to have a receipt. But many are given as gifts. I do not appreciate being put in the position of asking my brother in law for the receipt for reasons stated above. As a consumer, who would think a new, recently released, btw, Keurig model would die so quickly? It’s ridiculous! So save your money! Keurig uses this loophole so they do not have to honor their warranty! For a machine they continue to sell even though they know very well it is defective! They 100% know this is a major issue with this model, and many of their other models as per my research. So before you buy and waste your money, research on the internet, go to YouTube and watch videos. Choose another company to buy your product from. They continue to sell a machine that they know is defective and they do not stand behind their products and do the right thing. They are taking advantage of trusting consumers, all the while knowing they are doing so, and the consumers are just collateral damage.
It's an ok coffee maker unit. I decided to try the Keurig when I became the only coffee drinker in my household and no longer wanted a big pot of coffee just sitting on the warmer throughout the day. The unit brews a cup very quickly and has options for different sizes (6, 8, 10, and 12 oz) and regular vs strong. I can't tell if the strong button actually makes a strong coffee though. The difference, if any, is too subtle. I use the button regardless as I enjoy my coffee stronger and darker. I like that the machine is simple to use and no crazy complicated process I have to remember. All I need in the morning is a simple cup of black coffee, period, at the push of a button. The water reservoir is also a decent size so that once filled up, it lasts a couple of days depending on how much I drink each day. It also saves saves space on my countertop with a compact design compared to my bulky old machine. However, the machine requires a unique filter if you decide to do away with k-cup pods. I actually prefer buying a big bag of ground coffee so this is a big blow to me. I never liked having a special anything that can do only one job which is inefficient. Anyway, the filter came with the unit so I made peace with it. It also took a minute to figure out how to install the filter because you have to remove the k-cup holder that's already there. It's just fussy. Given that I decided to use the other filter permanently, I removed the holder and put it away. About a year of purchase we ran into an issue. The coffee was coming out diluted and almost just water. I finally figured out there was a gap between the filter and the lid of the machine so the water was bypassing the filter and just ran down to the cup. I had to hold the lid tight so the water would actually go thru the filter and the coffee... I researched online and found this was apparently a common problem other users were having. I was about to throw the machine in the garbage can after a few months of dealing with this issue with unsuccessful fix on my own. I called Keurig as the last resort and they offered to replace the machine even without the original receipt. The rep was amazing and helpful. The machine shipped quickly and the new machine doesn't seem to have the same issue. I'm back to enjoying my cup of joes without getting frustrated.
Descaling renders Keurig useless
I’ve had many different models of Keurigs over the years and they always wind up not working due to the descaling process. This latest model I absolutely love, but about the 4th time of descaling it, it overheated and would not work at all. It was past the warranty period so my husband used YouTube to figure out how to reset it, but it was a complete pain to do. Now 5 months later, here I am again with a maker that doesn’t work. We’ve had it 2 years in June. These products are expensive and not everyone can afford to buy a new one when it quits. Maybe they’ll see this review and offer a replacement that I can use for another 2 years. The descaling and subsequent overheating issue is what they really need to fix.
Second unit died
Initially, we LOVED our Keurig K-Supreme. Coffee tasted fabulous out of this machine! The first one we bought at Sam's Club lasted almost 3 months. We descaled it and then the machine would not power on at all. Customer service was great, and they replaced it immediately. Which was much appreciated. I was extremely nervous the first time I had to descale the new machine but was able to with no issues. A few months later, a second descale was needed and I held my breath, but it was successful. The third descale was going along fine but in the morning, we went to power on the machine, and it was dead. Did all the "reset" tricks and nothing. So the second machine was only 11 months old. I love the concept of the Keurig and I love the flavor of the coffee, but if we can't descale it when needed and have it last longer than a year, what is the point? I don't know if they will replace the replacement.
