He has his own backpacking bed now :’) bigger than expected packed down

It’s light and packs down fairly small. It’s a bit thicker when folded up than I thought it would be. i’m still quite happy with it though especially for the price. For reference, it’s slightly larger than my two person exped (the backpacking version) packed down, but also lighter. Since it’s so light I think you could have your dog carry their own. it’s under a pound for the biggest one. Looks like it’ll be a nice warm buffer from the ground too which is the main concern!

Amazing sleeping bag made even better!

My dog loves his Highlands sleeping bag! He no longer tries to get into mine. I camp in Canada late into the season and the pad adds that extra layer of warmth allowing me to sleep guilt free now that I’m no longer sharing my bag with him. He seems quite content with our new arrangement!

thanks homes alive pets for stocking great products!

Love the pad, excellent quality that i would expect with ruffwear! It has multiple spots to clip it to something, it is easy to fold up and secure shut, and has great no-slip on the bottom. My lab’s hair doesn’t stick to it much and it washed up amazing in the machine, too! Seems durable enough to me to use anywhere, between indoors and at the local crag. My boy bear loves it as it’s cushiony, soft, and keeps him warm on cold floors!

Everything I hoped for

I was looking for a portable mat for my Service Dog to lay on when we are out in public. This pad is light to carry, folds up well and my dog responded well to it right away. There is a strap that keeps it folded. I use this strap to connect the mat to my purse. It's a lot easier to carry than the old rug I used.

High Quality

The materials are robust, good quality, and perfectly suited for the pup and my needs. Microfibre is comfortable and easy to clean. The waterproof bottom is well made and a perfect addition for a camping pad. It folds along the seems and has a bit of loft that will compress.

Perfect for our backpacking trip!

Perfect edition for our backpacking trip! My dog was able to lay in it by the fire and inside our tent to add some cushion between her and the ground!

Thinner than expected, but still nice

I was envisioning this being a little thicker, but its nice quality and held up well for our first brief trip in the desert. It does pack down to a decent size, so should be functional for our backpacking trips, which is the reason I bought it. The medium is a good size for my very dense Staffy-X, its a little small for my largish Border Collie.

Great crag dog pad

I use this pack every time I take my dog climbing with me, and it works great! It's just thick enough to keep him comfortable on uneven, rocky ground. It's also light and small enough that I can fit it in my pack. It's also very easy to wipe down, which is good, because within 10 minutes it gets filthy. I also use it as an extra comfort layer under my dog's sleeping bag for camping.

Making your excellent stuff larger

I just wanted to suggest that you make stuff for bigger dogs like great Danes. They have become super popular, and there are several clubs, that would love your products. Thank you for your quality dog wear and supplies. We will continue to order them for our smaller dogs. However, I am suggesting that the market is switching to larger dogs and you should accommodate them. Best regards, Adelina.

Great for travel

Got this pad for my guide dog so that I had something compact for on the go trips to restaurants, or flights and other places where he would be on the floor for extended periods of time . This pad is thin but mighty ! And a good folding size makes it easy to Carry . This pad is great for keeping him warm and preserving his body / joints for a long working life ahead ! Thank you ruffwrar for all of your great products

Love this!

I got this for my 1 yr old Golden Retriever (size L). We live in a very dog friendly community with lots of heated patios but I was looking for something to put between him & the cold ground when we take him out with us, this has been perfect! It's lightweight & easy to transport & provides a comfortable place for our dog to relax. Paired with the Climate Changer jacket & Quinzee puffer when it's cold & our dog is happy as can be!

Compact & Portable Place

My dog, Wyatt, and I love this so much! I always bring a mat for Wyatt to lie on at restaurants, etc. so he has a “place” to stay and be comfortable in, and my old one was dirty and bulky. This is so compact and chic. He’s currently lying on it in the office. I love that it bundles small enough for me to throw in my work purse and is easy to wipe off. He’s a 60+ lb pit bull, and I got the medium, which works great. If I were using it with the sleeping bag, I might get the large so he has more space to stretch out. Love this product and Ruffwear so much! He has an array of Ruffwear vests that all fit him so well, which is challenging with a meaty little pit.

You need a smaller size

Both dogs instantly took to the pads when I placed them next to my sleeping bag inside the tent. Seemed to help keep them insulated from the cold Colorado mountain ground. I used this pad in conjunction with your Powder Hound jacket. Shake down packing trip had lows of about 40 degrees, no problem for either dog. My only complaint, if it is one, there is not a small size. My dogs weigh about 45 pounds each. The medium sizbed is more than large enough for one and almost both. This size makes it difficult to stuff into a saddle bag type backpack. Both backpacks are also RuffWare bought 2 and 6 years ago.

I'm back buying another. That's how great it is!

I love this pad. I've bought numerous brands of pads for my service dogs over the decades looking for the perfect pad and was never happy with what I found until the Highlands Pad. Service dogs are expected to "under" when in public, especially when they're big dogs, so that they're out of the way: under tables, under benches, under chairs, etc.

A pretty good mat for comfort and car camping, would like to see a backpacking model too.

Its a good mat to lay down for comfort as its got a pretty firm but flexible foam sewn into it. The bottom is a non-slip rubber and the top is a fairly heavy duty fleece-like fabric. My dog quickly realized it was her spot in the tent and gravitated to it when settling in.

If youre looking for comfort/cleanliness then its good, for thermals or to pack small not so much.

Starting off its well made. Good materials and stitching and its dog claw resistant. As far as a pad to put down so your pup isnt laying on dirty, hard ground it definitely gets that job done. Took it out hiking and my dog gravitated to it for laying down if I pulled it out. She definitely likes it and went straight to it as her pad

Improved over the previous, but still room to go.

I tried out the new Highlands Pad last weekend (with the Highlands Bed). Here is what I liked/didn't like about it and why I only gave it 3 stars. The waterproof base is non-skid and is great if you're using this in your tent. Everyone who tent camps w/ their dog knows how beds and blankets slide around when your dog jumps in/out. My dog is 70lbs so this is always an issue. I actual wish my sleeping pad had this, though I know that would add weight. I don't know however, if the added cost of the waterproof-ness of the base is needed though. Could make it moisture-wicking or just some other kind of moisture barrier w/ the non-skid surface. The fold-ability/compact-ability is so-so... this is specifically coming from more of a back country camper, so I need it to fit easily in my pack and the shape of it when it's folded is pretty awkward. It fits well into the Highlands Bed, but I opted not to do that because the bottom of the bed is just the normal denier fabric, which means it'll slide around if I actually tuck this into the bed. I think one of the improvements they could make w/ the compatibility w/ the Highlands Bed is to put either Velcro or snap hooks on the bed to connect the two. Then the non-skid function, when used w/ the bed, would still be in tact. One of the main reasons I put this as 3 stars is this pad is that the description implies it can be used as a pad for 'around the camp site', but beware that this pad is VERY prone to burn through and marks from the slight fire spark. So this is not campfire friendly at all, which almost defeats the purpose of bringing it with me camping since that is mostly when my dog is lying around with me.
