Hard to assemble and clean
This unit needs to be assembled for operation. The interface with the window requires the addition of sealant. This makes the unit less portable. The method of removing the condensate requires taking the unit to a drain to be emptied. The condensate removal should be easier.
It is not 1 star machine ... BUT ...
This worked somewhat. After a bit it would blow DRY 81 deg air. My room is 78. My AC is set to 61.
This small 6000 btu air conditioner packs a lot of cooling power. It sufficiently cools my high ceiling bedroom and regulates temperature very well. I'll hear it go on/off during the night. It's also very quiet and easy to sleep. A friend purchased similar unit and it cools most of his apartment. The small compact size means it will be easy to store over winter. LG great brand!
Good work horse -- LG 6,000 BTU Air Conditioner
This little unit really pumps out the cool air. It is a bit loud on high (the only fan speed below 72 degrees) and not much quieter on low, but still quieter than many portable ACs. Exhaust hose is good quality, easy to maneuver. Window panels are decent length and come with plenty of foam to fit into window frame. The user's manual gives an easy setting to help dry out the unit to avoid leaking, though for some reason that setting is not the factory default.
Works great, will update if it dies
I’ve been using this one for a couple weeks now. My previous unit died after 3 years because I guess I was supposed to be emptying the water tank every year before storing it. Algae grew in it and it became impossible to clean. So word of warning, empty the water tank every year before storing. This one has been working great and even though it’s a bit smaller than the other one, it’s been keeping my 650 sq ft apartment cool. The electricity usage has also been significantly less so I’m happy.
Disgraceful behavior by LG
I open the box and it has a "Stop" Any questions or concerns call us taped to the unit. Great mine kept powering off before reaching desired temperature less then 24 hours running it. Maybe I was doing something wrong. What happens? I call and Immediately the girl on the end says you've had it only for 24 hours. Not our problem but home depots. Wait what? Asked even for a manager and she just transfers me to home depot without telling me. I will return this unit and never buy LG Again.
It cools my entire two bedroom upstairs apartment except the two bedrooms (we keep the doors closed ) not too loud, we have to shut it off as it gets too cold lol. Being new to the west coast and specifically the e PNW it was odd only having heat in the apartment (Florida girl) but this thing has been a Godsend! It has a remote you can use for it! It’s easy to install! I highly recommend
Excellent purchase for the price. It is easy to use, and works well in my apartment. I purchased the beginning of July. My only preference difference would be the hose is large and bulky, but I believe they all are with these type of units. It works well despite the bulky hose.
Worked 3 Days
It worked beautifully for 3 days. Then the compressor would turn on then off after a few seconds. I followed all of the troubleshooting instructions and nothing worked. The fan runs fine and compressor turns on and blows cold air but suddenly turns off. In the process of trying to return it.
I returned the unit. Condensation formed on the outside of the unit and dripped on the floor. There should be insulation inside the box to prevent the “skin” from getting cold enough for this to happen. If designed properly, the condensation should stay inside the unit to be captured in the tank inside for that purpose.
Worked 3 days, now turns off randomly
Worked great for 3 days, and ever since it just shuts off whenever it wants to. Switched to "dry" and blows less cold, and lasted another day. Now it randomly shuts off on dry mode, too. LG generally has good quality appliances, but the AC market isn't working out for me with them so far, and from what I see here on other reviews, it's not just me. Wish I read these before purchasing.
I was actually disappointment with this unit.
We thought the unit didn't work at first. It kept shutting down for no apparent reason. We did a reset with the plug buttons and it's been chugging along ever since. Keeps our bedroom ice cold even set in the low 70s. It was not as heavy as our old portable AC and the window planks came with enough options that I didn't have to cut anything for our tiny window opening.
Water every where
Purchased this product o18 days ago from HD. I have been awaken almost every night with My water tank full. I only use it at night and do not use the DRY setting, since I live in a very dry climate. Instruction state Dry will take out moisture, well it is wrong because Cool is taking out moisture also. My last LG floor air conditioner has a drain tube and works great so I believed I could trust this brand. I am returning it today.
LG Wins Again
Purchased (6000 BTU) unit. Setup (easy). Window exhaust mounting setup with ease. It is meant to sit on the window sill and not in the area between the screen and window sill. Leaks: Be sure your setting is on cool and not the dehumidify option, as you will need to make a way for unit to drain. Secondly, be aware that most units need to be transported up right. If you have laid the unit on its side during transport, it needs to sit upright for 24hrs or else the freon will leak in most units.
Bought 2, only 1 worked
I purchased 2 of these units for our upstairs. I hooked the first one up and turned it on. The condenser ran for about 10 sec then stopped and unit shut off. Everytime I tried to turn it on again it would just shut off. I could only get it work in fan mode only (not cool mode). The next time I tried it the controls stopped working and I couldn't turn it off unless I unplugged it. Skeptically I opened the 2nd one and it has worked fine...so far.....
Not the quality I expected from LG.
A/C is cheaply made. The window kit does not accommodate a normal window sill size. my biggest concern is that the unit does not keep the room at the setpoint on the display. Say you were to set the unit at 70 degrees. once the unit hit set point, everything shuts down. no blower to circulate the air in the space. this causes an inaccurate space temp. I set my unit to 72 degrees in my bedroom. the unit cycled off at 72 degrees. I checked space temp at different corners with two different brands of them sensors. one corner was 76 degrees, and the other was 75 degrees. I reached out to LG regarding this issue, and they did not offer any support. I have purchased LG portable A/C's in the past and have NEVER had these issues.
Better than expected
Bought the 6000 btu. Have 350 sq ft room that is always hot in the summer. Right now it's 105 outside. This little unit is keeping that room a cool 72 degrees. I did put a fan in the corner to help circulate the air a little better.
Remember the YUGO? This is the a/c version...
I picked it up from the store on Friday. I returned it on Monday. Turns out the 'new design' changed the window panel... and it does not work in my window. A third panel is needed (a shorter version). LG customer service ? You will have to cut it. Their advice? Be careful. So, after spending all weekend with LG on chat and email... I decided I bought a new portable a/c and did not sign up for all this design work for the window panels. Returned it. Worst design ever.
Compressor broke right after the warranty expired
We live in Connecticut so we only used it for 2 months the first year we owned it. It broke the following year, right after the warranty expired. We took it to the repair facility recommended by LG and were told that it would cost more to repair than buying a new one. The repair facility also said that this is typical of LG compressors. We contacted LG and they refused to pay for the repair. I would not recommend this product.
