Seems like good quality
This item seems to be of good quality. With limited use so far I am fine with it. Based on my usage of it so far I would purchase it again, we'll have to see how it withstands the test of time.
Penny wise pound foolish. Be careful.
I have no complaints about the product itself but it comes with only TWO keys!! THREE locks and TWO keys?? I don't get it. I have two children and they need a lock each. Now I have to go make myself another key. What a hussle for me to drive back and forth and I bet it saved the company a ton of money saving an ENTIRE key per pack. Way to go Master.
Master Lock 40mm-Wide Covered Laminated Steel Keyed Padlock with 27mm Shackle, Blue
The Master Lock 40mm-Wide Keyed Padlock is solid , priced right and has a 27mm shackle that makes it easy for locking and securing your area . The covered laminate steel handles the elements and even has a keyhole cover .
Lock Freezes Up in Winter
One full winter and the beginning of another one, and I am ditching this lock. Last winter, it kept freezing up even though we used the protective cap. The first big freeze this winter, and I had to use matches to thaw it out - even though the cap was on the lock. I'm not sure where the water or condensation enters, but the key would only partially go in. Last winter, I tried blowing graphite into it to keep it functional - but it seemed like it was a hassle all winter long. I realize I could call the customer service number, but it is easier to just go buy a different brand of lock than go through the automated hoops of a phone call. I love Canadian Tire (my favourite store) and its quality products, but this lock may not be made for winter.
Lock Stopper
Positive: The lock is good. I would buy another. Negative: It is expensive. It can be tough when wet from too much rain or cold & snow. You will need to oil lock. The plastic hinge attached to plastic stop covering locking device will break from usage after 2 years of usage.
insulated pad lock
This is the second one that I've purchased in a couple of years . They are outside year round and work flawlessly every time . Our temps. are sometimes in the -30's in the winter.
Very poor quality
This is my second set of locks(got as an exchange for corroded first set. Started using one 4 months ago.. April. Thankfully it opened but when I couldn’t get the key out I realized this one corroded too. I would suggest you buy a bolt cutter along with the locks. You will need them. Back to Canadian Tire. Waste of my time and gas.
Not really great outside
The cap that covers the key slot must be left open to allow water to drain. I have had to lubricate the lock to keep it working properly. I would not recommend it for full outdoor applications.
Better look than function
I was interested in getting a lock that had some protection from the elements. The cover over the key opening leaks, so I'm sure it will be icy in the winter. Im not impressed.
Master lock needs to go back to the drawing board.
One month old and already rusting! All of the work to keep water out not only doesn’t work but the cap over the key hole traps the water causing the lock to rust. Don’t waist your money. One star is too many stars.
Pad. Lock. Look over first.
Locks. Aint. Weather. Proof. Plastic cover. Slips. Right. Off. And. Heavy. Corriision too had. To buy. Graphite. Spray. Misled. You. Think they are. Weather. Proof. I purchased these. In march. Do not buy. Them. Unless. You just. Want a regular lock.
Disappointing
I've bought this brand of lock in the past and after a couple of years outside in all kinds of weather they need to be replaced. No big deal. This latest purchase lasted a month outside before the key became extremely difficult to get in and to turn. I'll likely have to toss them out soon and try to find something of quality.
Absolutely terrible
I bought this lock for my shed and installed it in November. As soon as the cold weather started (average only -4C) it would continuously freeze up even though it’s in a protected area. I tried using graphite, protecting it with a plastic cover but the same thing happened and I needed to use a lighter to unfreeze it.
Master Lock 40mm covered
This lock appears as though an attempt was made to keep it dry inside. It even has a water tight key hole cover. However, when it is locked and in place, the water runs down hasp, down each side of the lock and fills it full of water. Therefore, when it gets cold.it freezes solidity and becomes impossible to open.
Great weather protected lock with keyway cover
The three ‘keyed alike’ locks are handy; we were securing multiple doors in on e building. The rubbery coating and lock key way cover should help… we are using these outdoors. My only suggestion, since there are three locks, that there should be more than only two keys.
The shackle is not covered in vinyl
I was looking for weather resistant locks. The locks I received had blue vinyl covered bodies, but the shackle was bare metal, contrary to the picture on the product page where the shackle is covered in black vinyl. What is the point of that? it just lets water into lock mechanism. I am returning these locks.
3 locks, 2 keys
The locks are good, however one would figure that if your buying a pack of three keyed the same locks that you would at least get three keys. Nope, only two, but this seems to be the same for all the 3-pack Master locks that I looked at. This wouldn’t be an issue if I was the only one needing a key but in my case it wasn’t.
Not for winter
Bought two packages and had the same problem with all 6. These locks do not work in cold weather. Water penetrates around the shackle and freezes in the lock and cannot be opened. Lock deicer only works on occasion and if it works, takes 5-10 minutes before the lock opens. The second summer, the rust inside the locks is so bad, that they only open half the time on the first go.
Poor quality
I bought this set to lock up our kayaks but found out the hard way that although Master claims all three keys are the same they in fact were not. 2 of the three keys were different - this caused me to run out the hardware store and have copies made of the one key that worked. When I contacted Master's support line they were sorry for the inconvience but they knew nothing of any QA issues. My recommendation is stick with Weiser and dont buy this product.
Not for cold weather use!!
Do not use in freezing weather. Warm and sunny, warm and raining but not in cold, with or without snow. I can not get the key in. I sprayed them with wd40, hung them so moisture would be less likely to penetrate, closed the cap and a week later, I am locked out and my tools are inside. Not one, but all 3. Now to see if I can return them cut off.
