Very quickly makes ice. Full bin in just a few hours. Only negative is the design of the back panel is flat to the floor which doesn’t allow it to be pushed into the cabinet space because there’s no cutout for the drain. But great price for a unit that makes ice quickly with a large amount per day.
Great ice maker
Very pleased with our new ice maker. Makes ice quickly. Installation was straight forward. We were replacing a unit that had quit working. As others have reported, the ice does require some breaking up into individual cubes. We replaced the plastic scoop that came with it with a metal one to make this task easier. Definitely recommend this ice maker.
This has been an awful experience and it still has not been completely resolved. I am now on my second ice maker as when I had the first one installed, it made a HORRIBLE noise. Contacted the company whose phone number was on the appliance, and was told that they would send out a replacement unit as it was "too cheap to try and repair". Was told to box it up with all the packing materials, invoice, photo of identification plate and send copies of all of this to their attention. After they received all that they would order a new one to be sent. However they would not issue a pickup order for the original machine until the new machine was installed and working properly. Each machine is double boxed and weighs 96 pounds! I now have 2 large boxes in my house! The 2nd one arrived on Saturday 5/25. My installer came back today to install it only to discover that the outside box was marked "this side up" complete with arrows, the inside box was packed UPSIDE DOWN! All the instruction say that the unit MUST be right side up for 24 hours prior to being turned on to let all the "fluids" flow to the right position. Now my installer has been here the 2nd time. After talking to the manufacture again, he was told that he could hook it up but in no instance could it be turned on for 24 hours. Now he has to come back a 3rd time, turn it on and see if it works. If it does then he has to call back to get a pickup order started to pick up the 1st one that was broken to begin with. If this was a new installation I might be more forgiving but this house was BUILT with an undercounter ice maker with the gravity drain, water source, and electrical source. After almost 16 years of constant use it had to be replaced.
Possible problem and how I solved it.
A bit noisy. Be very careful with messing with the controls. I got mine messed up by doing that. It took me four days fiddling with it to finally get it to work again. I just wanted to have it make the ice a little thinner so it would break apart easier. I don't know why it stopped working by just pressing the controls, but it did. It would come on, make a clicking noise and shut right back off. Even the light inside would go off. Holding the reset for about three minutes is what made it finally come back on. The three seconds per the manual would not do it. Tried that maybe ten times.
This unit is replacing a Scottsman Unit that I have had for five years. The Scottsman was much more expensive and never worked properly. We installed the Maxx Ice unit at noon on Sunday, and by early evening the unit was full of ice. On the first day it outperformed the Scottsman! In the beginning, the unit was a little noisy as it was filling with ice, but after it made a full bin of ice, the unit was silent. It remained that way until it needed to replenish some additional ice. This unit also has an energy saver rating, which I did not find on most of the other units we researched. The controls were also very easy to use...basically push the power button...and the documentation is easy to read (which I always recommend). Our refrigerator doesn't make much ice, which seems to be the case with most refrigerators these days, so this ice machine is exactly what we needed. The drain is gravity fed, so you will need a gravity feed drain.
Not a quality machine
Didn't work out of the box. Bought a couple weeks ago. Never made ice. The evaporator never got cold. The thin metal plate on the back of the machine was damaged as well.
I cannot live without having an icemaker. It is a necessity for my family living right at the beach in Florida. The roadside ice drop machines are 3-4 a bag so it gets pricey if having to purchase. This one makes fast ice and is completely clear and zero (using water tester). The only negatives, and one was probably my oversight from not reading the description closely, the inside is not lighted when you open the door. The other negative, the cutter doesn’t cut all the way through so it dumps sheets of ice into the bin. Rather annoying because I constantly have to jab the sheets or the machine turns off because it thinks it’s “full”. Maybe a flaw with my machine unsure if they are all like this. My first machine was delivered in perfect packaging but totally damaged-scratches, compressor busting out of side, dents, etc. Wayfair, of course, returned without any issues and promptly sent a replacement. The second only had one little scratch on the side, but for the price point, that’s okay with me.
Not the quality of older version
Purchased as a replacement for an older version... the new one does not have the same ice quality (blocks stay frozen together, difficult size for standard cups and glasses), there is no light (former version was lit inside), and overall seems to be of lesser quality. (Door handle was also bent during shipping.)
Manage Your Expectations
We wanted a stand alone icemaker for our office break room. Refrigerator/freezers don't make enough ice quickly enough to support a couple dozen employees. We designed the cabinet and installation area in advance for this unit. It came as described - LED light and drain pump included. Having had experience with all manner of icemakers - we also had an inline filter installed in advance. It produces plenty of ice and runs like a champ. Yes - it's a little noisy, but it has a compressor - what do you expect? Keep in mind...
Do Not Do It!!!!
Very unhappy. Extremely LOUD. Loud as a washing machine. Leaks from the front door if drain hose not perfectly level. Drain hose is TOO long. This was to replace an under the cabinet ice maker that we previously had. House was built with a gravity drain hose in place. The hose that came with the Ice Maxx machine connected but there was extremely too much hose; hence the hoses didn’t drain and the door that you would think was sealed leaked does not …..ALL NIGHT all over the kitchen floor, down to the floor below. Don’t waste your time. You may spend more in repairs than if you just bought a more expensive machine.
Nice ice maker
We've had the ice machine for 2 weeks now. Overall, very satisfied with the purchase. PROs: It looks great and it makes ice a little faster than I expected. It took about 6-7 hours to completely fill the bin to capacity with ice. CONs: It's a little louder than I expected. When it makes ice the water circulates in the unit and it sounds like a dishwasher. It's not a big deal for us, but it is a little noisier than expected. The other "issue" is that the sheets of ice don't break up into individual cubes on it's own. You have to bust them up with the scoop. This isn't a real big issue but I expected the ice to break up a little easier than it does. All in all, I'm satisfied with my purchase. I bought this one because it was $800-$1000 cheaper than many of the other models. But if cost isn't an issue for you then you'll probably be happier with one of the more expensive machines that breaks up the ice and is quieter.
Don’t buy
I’d give zero stars if I could. Ice comes out in one large cloudy sheet. Most of the time it doesn’t even fall into the tray. It has to be broken off. Professionally installed, with proper venting and air flow. I will be returning this unit. For $1100 I would expect it to do its job without issue on day one.
Just what we needed
We had an open space in our bar from an old beer fridge. This machine fit easily and wasn’t hard to install. You do need a pump if you don’t have a floor drain and I connected that to a dishwasher drain on sink. Also added a water filter to the feed line.
Buyer Beware!
This Maxx Ice model MIM 50 ice maker is inaccurately described on Sam’s Club website detailed specs as having a built in drain pump and internal LED lighting in the ice bin department. It does not have those features. It’s been 23 days since I returned this falsely advertised product and I have yet to see a refund on my credit card from Sam’s Club after no less than five phone calls to Sam’s Club Customer Care. They also have yet to correct the inaccurate product description on their website even after I have made multiple
Lots of ice
The machine is easy to set up with everything needed. Makes tons of ice quickly. The ice comes off in sheets and we are having to break the sheets up in order to scoop them up. Also the bucket must be purposely pushed all the way in or there is leakage. We also noted that the drain hole in the bucket and the drain in the machine do not perfectly match up. With all that said, for the price, we can live with it but had we known the cubes did not come off individually---probably would have looked for a different machine.
Bar/small cooler ice maker
Nice ice maker, has removable bucket which is handy. Makes a couple buckets a day. Ours arrived dented on back, but didn't affect operation and hidden when installed. Boxes it was in were not damaged so when did it get dented? Is a little noisy when dumping ice compared to old one, but makes it faster as well. Overall so far it's good for the price.
Great price compared to others.
Nice ice maker. The price is great compared to the other seemingly overpriced models. Installation was relatively easy but an external water filter is required to ensure warranty coverage; The filter installation may require a plumber for some buyers. Hoping this model will offer years of maintenance free service.
Well worth the money
This machine makes ice quickly. Much faster than the twice as more expensive Kitchenaid that I replaced when it quit working after 5 years. Other reviews have noted that it is noisy. Yes it is. Other reviews have noted that you sometimes have to help to break the sheets into the individual cubes. Yes you do. Above all, it makes clear ice faster than you can use it, and the ice container can be removed while full of ice so it can easily be transferred into a cooler. Despite its flaws it is well worth the price.
[Rewarded Review] Decent ice maker
I bought this ice maker for a bar I made in our pole barn. Even thought the barn got pretty hot in the summer is continued to produce ice at a fast enough rate for me. I bagged a lot and threw it in the freezer since we go through a lot for softball tournaments. Biggest complaint I have would be that it doesn't break apart all that well so once it's 2/3 full or so the lever stays down keeping it from making more. Other than that it worked great as long as I owned it, about a year, until we moved. This picture was before I finished the inside of the bar, but you get the point.
MAXX ICE WORKHORSE
This ice machine is a workhorse. It doesn't sound like a lot of ice (50 pounds); however, it produces the ice very quickly. I am very impressed with its capabilities. The ice machine was delivered with a tear in the box and a slight dent in the door. I called the Sam's club number, and they made everything right quick and painlessly. This ice machine was well worth the purchase and very easy to install. it is a definite "must have".
