Our dog loves these little hands

Our dog, a Border Terrier, absolutely loves these little chew toys. He'll work at it for hours and the flavored insert will be gone in a week. We have to buy them in bulk to keep up. The only thing we can't figure out is what the shape is supposed to be. We debate whether it's a dog's paw+leg or a skeletal human arm+hand. Hartz certainly has a sense of humor.

Not for aggressive chewers

Not really sure that my doodle was supposed to be able to chew up this plastic bone the way she did. By the packaging, it appeared that it was to chew on and eat the treat part out of it. She basically destroyed it, but thankfully is smart enough not to eat the plastic. I found pieces all over the floor and realized it was not ideal for her. I ended up throwing it away.

Deceptive

First off, my dog loves this thing! He is a heavy chewer, and it really helps keep his attention off my things. BUT

Unfortunatly they changed the formula

My dog absolutely loves these chew bones, and they have really helped with her dental hygiene, helped decrease the tartar. But Hartz has changed the ingredients and they now have potato starch and gelatin in them. They make her so sick. She is very intolerant to beef, and I suspect the gelatin is the problem. So if your dog is beef intolerant or allergic, use caution giving them.

Does Not Meet Satisfaction

I bought this chew toy for my dog and gave it to him this morning. Not even five minutes later he had chewed through the hard plastic and swallowed some. It ended up with sharp edges which could lead to cut gums and mouth. I spent money on something I had to throw away after 5 minutes of use. I'm not happy. There needs to be a safer alternative for our fur babies. I should've read the reviews BEFORE purchasing, but unfortunately I did not. Maybe you all should skim through the reviews out there and make some much needed changes to this product.

NOT for aggressive chewers

The dogs really loved these and I wanted to believe they were okay but all 4 dogs had very sharp edges on theirs. They are very aggressive chewers and it is so frustrating trying to find something safe. There is an edible layer but the problem is around that. Even more upsetting is Hartz has been aware of this problem for years and has yet to do something about the very unsafe area!!

Dangerous Treat for Superchewers!

I got this for my dog for Christmas. She is a super chewer and i was hoping to find a longer lasting treat. The plastic around the chew broke down way too easy and cut her before she really even chewed much on the treat so I just threw the whole thing out. I definitely will not be buying this one again. This treat might be fine for dogs that aren't as aggressive of chewers but watch them closely so they don't get hurt. My poor girl lasted only a few minutes before the plastic failed.

Good not great

The Hartz bone chew toy does seem to last awhile and is enjoyed by our two dogs. The issue with this purchase is the inserted flavored treat material in the center was very brittle and busts out easily by the dogs. It was gone quickly and the bone was less desirable after that. With previous purchases the flavored treat material lasted nearly as long as the bone. This time it didn't.

Furbaby loves these!

We’ve purchased 6 of these since the beginning of October, and they keep our dog chewing on the right things! (Not the coffee table) She loves them! I love that they are helping her keep her teeth clean too! We have a fairly aggressive chewer, so we go through one every two weeks or so. They’re still fine and probably have a lot of life left in them but we like to give her a fresh one. She loves the flavor of the bones.

Dangerous product! Do not buy!

My dog ate the entire thing, plastic and all, in the two minutes I had my back turned. I monitored her chewing on it for a few minutes before turning away, so I’d say it took 5 minutes total for her to ingest this very dangerous “toy.” She is 10lbs under the recommended weight so it was the correct size for her. Now I get to check her poop to make sure she passes it. Very unhappy!

😒Another Potentially Harmful Chew

I received this Hartz chew bone as a delivery order substitution (approved as a last resort having a new puppy who needed SOMETHING to chew ASAP). My dogs liked this chew — I mean, it’s bacon flavored so how could they not. I already tossed the packaging so I’m not sure what the bacon flavored part is made from — maybe a gelatin based edible product. The outer part of this bone seems to be made of hard plastic. It doesn’t dissolve. While being chewed, this material gets very sharp twisty edges that 1) caused my dog’s mouth %26 gums to bleed, %26 2) can be pulled off and ingested. Hartz is a well-known brand that’s been around for a long time so you’d think they would offer quality products that consumers can trust not to cause harm their pets. But, like most other companies, It’s all about their bottom line so as long as a product sells, it’ll continue to be on store shelves. Personally, I’ll no longer purchase Hartz products. I do not recommend this chew or the Hartz brand.

Think carefully

The toy is bone shape non edible plastic, a edible treat is held in a grove with hard plastic nubs. The thought is that the dog will do whatever is necessary to remove the edible from the bone. My dog chewed on the plastic and was not successful in getting all of the edible. I took the bone away from the dog because of chewing on the plastic. Even with a screw driver, I was not able to remove the edible from the bone. For me, there's enough concerns that I will not purchase again.

Awful and dangerous!

This was intentionally for a 12 wk old puppy. However, our 6 yr old dog got ahold of it for about 5 mins. He instantly became aggressive. HE HAS NEVER BEEN AGGRESSIVE a day in his life! He's the most gentle baby on the planet. It passed quickly, but something in this definitely brought out an entirely different side of him. I immediately threw it away. After tossing, I also noticed the puppy started pooping much less. He was pooping everywhere prior to tossing it. We assumed because he was a new pup. Now I wonder if the treat was also tearing up his belly.

DANGEROUS for heavy chewers!!! I bought this yesterday, and gave it to my pup this morning. It says it’s for heavy chewers; and it’s the “largest” bone made like this. My sweet girl chewed this to bits in a matter of an hour! I was reading, and I heard her hacking. I looked over, and she had chewed off both ends. Now I am PRAYING the pieces don’t get stuck in her stomach or intestines ~ which would require surgery. I pray she passes these pieces!!!! I’m just sick about it; and it will be agonizing wondering if she will be ok. The pieces look like they are jagged and sharp!

I'm always on the lookout for new treats to give the dogs and when I saw that this one was a toy and a treat I was intrigued. Although I love the concept/idea behind this product I didn't overly love the product itself. My dog really did enjoy the taste of the treat itself, but I have a super chewer and because of this within a few minutes, the plastic was completely destroyed. The toy is plastic with a treat embedded into the plastic, and unfortunately the material just isn't strong enough to handle dog teeth, especially those of a large canine. My dog is a blue tick coonhound and beagle mix, so he's a pretty big boy (70 lbs), and I just don't see how this item would work for any dog larger than a small goldendoodle or collie. I ended up needing to take the product away from him as I was afraid of him swallowing pieces of plastic that were just shredding off the toy like tissue paper. A product like this would work best for a smaller dog who is not an aggressive chewer.

A good occasional chew treat that isn't messy.

My 10 lb yorkiepoo is now a year old loves these. Unfortunately, she has learned how to quickly get the good part out. Like in a few hours. When she was younger it took her days. I tried the larger ones but she was able to pop out the good stuff quicker, in bigger chunks. I think because they're bigger the casing doesn't hold as well, so I continue to buy the small ones. The multipack saves a little money. I don't recommend for larger or aggressive chewers and always supervise.

Generates consistent interest for years

I have little dogs, but they like this size better. They are easier to hang onto. My dogs are all spoiled, so they have lots of choices, but these bones are always out and around, and always of interest to the dogs. This has been true of a number of dogs over the years. They take them to their beds, take them up and down the stairs, sometimes scrap over them a little bit. The flavorful center keeps them interested, and the plastic lets them work out the chewing urges without ruining things or their teeth. I feel comfortable leaving these in a crate with them because they don't break off any chunks. Plus the bright colors keep us from tripping over them. We keep coming back to these. For my dogs, they last years, but the tasty part eventually gets drier and starts to leave a trail of little orange bits behind, so we replace them then.

Very hard plastic

The plastic on this toy is way too hard for your dog if they like to chew on their toys, even light chewers. Both of the dogs had mouth bleeds from this toy. The plastic becomes very sharp if it gets chewed on. Neither of our dogs is a large breed or aggressive chewer either. In addition, the edible part is very thin and was gone within 15 mins. Think of a thin schmear of peanut butter. Threw this toy away after an hour of receiving it. Would not recommend.

My 5 pound pup loves these

These are great if you have a small dog who is a chewer. My little one who is a young adult rescue is a chewer. If not given an outlet for his chewing he will resort to chewing baseboards, books and anything else left where he can find. He really enjoys these. He will have them for days, sometimes weeks trying to get the meat out of the center. Even after all the meat it gone he still chews the hard part. Even my senior who is missing a lot of his teeth will carry these around licking at the meat in the center. My uncle has a dachshund pup who loves to chew so I sent them some and their dog loves them as well.

Probably not the safest chew/treat combo

We’ve had this since August. When our male dog first started chewing it my husband warned me that he was going to end up eating the plastic. I wanted to at least give our dog a chance with it so I didn’t just toss it then. Big mistake. He’s a very food/treat oriented pup and will sit and try to master any obstacle to get his reward. I thought that as he chewed on this the treat would be more easily accessible to him, it didn’t. Instead he managed to get a sore on his upper lip from the plastic becoming so rough from his chewing on it. I will admit it’s mostly my fault for not keeping a better eye on him while he was using it, but the poor product design was also a contributing factor. If you have a high intensity, food oriented chewer, I definitely recommend you pick a different product.
