Spice mill

I bought this to grind some seeds. Rather disappointed as it couldn't do the job. Suspect I have only myself to blame as it is rather specific about which spices it does grind. I haven't tried it on nutmeg for example. It might do better with that.

Microplane Spice Mill 2 in 1

Easy to use, once we understood how it opened up! Struggles to grate once any husks get in the way of the top meeting the grater. But a decent, basic, accessory for occasional use.

No more scratched fingertips!

This nutmeg grater/grinder is a blessing - no more scratched fingertips nor end bits of nutmeg thrown away. Plus handy compartment for storing nutmeg.

I absolutely love the nutmeg grinder. It saved my fingernails and knuckles. No more ruined manicures! I’m forever thankful and grateful.

A bit disappointing

I wanted to grind small spices like cumin and coriander seeds and thought this would be a good option but this grinder could not cope with a lot of spice. It was hard work to use - in fact I sprained my wrist twisting the grinder over and over again. The images on the site show nutmeg and cinnamon and perhaps it will work better with bigger spice.

Microplane Spice Mill 2 in 1

Nothing wrong with the mill which arrived quickly and is fine. However it is missing the silicone cover which is supposed to fit over it: "Handy silicon cover included to avoid mess".

Great little grater!

For nutmeg, it is so much easier to grate the amount needed without scraping my nail or finger on the lame. Worth it, even if it is a single purpose tool. Stores extra nutmeg seeds in the cap. Have not yet tried it with cinnamon.

The grinder works great for nutmeg and black peppercorns. Easy to use. My recommendation would be to make the grinding chamber taller so that it could hold more spice without jacking up the top of the grinder which makes the top lean over. I have 3 of these grinders now and love them. But my next purchase may be a taller version.

AMAZING!!!

Do you know how hard it is to grind long pepper? I think its a superior product to the usual peppercorns we're used to but normal pepper mills struggle to effectively grind. not this baby! when they say it was designed for those difficult spices they meant it. i LOVE mine. now i can actually use my long pepper as intended without having to resort to an archaic mortar and pestle.

I I have had my black spice mill for several years. I use it for Ceylon cinnamon, the soft stick cinnamon, and I use it every day. Today I could not get it apart. it’s tight and I don’t want to break it. I was hoping someone might have some tips or hints that would help me separate the top from the bottom. I have another one that I used for cayenne pepper. I really like them. Purchased at my local independent cookware store

I used to purchase cinnamon in a single-use grinder (I believe the maker was Spice Island). I cannot find that any more and chose this instead. However, full sized cinnamon sticks are too tall to fit inside and must be broken down. Once the sticks have been broken down, the top still only sits loosely on the base, making it bothersome to store. I also find that I need to grind quite a bit to get enough cinnamon to taste.

Best Spice Mill of All Time

I cannot get enough of this Microplane Spice Mill. Used with the cinnamon sticks or nutmeg I purchased from The Spice House, the aromas are heaven. I find myself trying to find reasons to bake something or make chai tea, just so I can grate a little fresh cinnamon on top. I love this mill so much, I bought two more as gifts. If you love baking, this mill will up your game for sure!

Product brilliant but WAY too much packaging

Great spice mill. Just what I wanted. But came in an enormous box with masses of polystyrene. Horts really should be like so many more companies now and wrap in recyclable natural materials. Won’t use again because of this. Such a pity.

Reliable and effective multi-spice grinder

I use it for nutmeg (noix de muscade, Muskatnuss) and it works very nicely, you can dose the pressure on the nuts precisely and the grinder is always effective.

Microplane spice mill.

The mill works well, and is quite attractive. It's the best thing for grating long pepper. Does one need a grinder for just three spices (nutmeg, long pepper, and star anise-- more like 2+ spices, since star anise is mostly used whole aside from a few masala mixes? But sometimes "want" supersedes "need", especially during pandemic times. It's a relatively inexpensive indulgence.

Not for pepper corns

This little grinder is a very good grinder.....however....I bought it for the white pepper corns and they constantly spill out. It grinds them well, but you cannot leave them in the grinding section because if it tips over your corns are going everywhere. I imagine it is meant for bigger herbs like cinnamon sticks, star anise, etc. Or maybe I am just too clumsy. It isn't the fault of the grinder so I gave it 5 starts because it is solid and grinds well. Just not so sure about the design where the grinding section has to be emptied every time or spills are likely.

Nutmegged!!

Did a huge amount of research for this and this was pretty much one of the two best available world-wide. In fact it's excellent. Absolutely excellent. Works brilliantly, and with minimal effort. I have arthritis which means hard twisting or pressure to make things work hurts like hell. This, despite being manually operated is just so easy. BUY ME, I AM YOUR NUTMEG GOD!!

Cookery-changing simple but effective tool

I love this spice mill--I was skeptical at first, but my friend Ellen convinced me to give it a chance, and it works like a charm. I have used it for nutmeg, coriander seeds, and other hard items, and can't believe how easy and simple it is. Love the neat, compact design. It does not take strength to grind because the blades are very sharp, but they are also hidden away so that there's no danger of hurting your fingers etc. Cleans up nicely too. Thanks!
