Good in theory, less so in practice. Good for grating, say, nutmeg, but not much else. Having the cutting edges on the same side of the tool as the reservoir would be helpful.
Misleading and Poor design
What on earth was the concept behind this. I bought it thinking it was going to be perfect for grating garlic. Turns out you can't grate with the little holder protector. Only the backside is the grater???????
A handy little gadget! The finger guard is essential as its really sharp.

Why???
Terribly design. Why wouldn't you have designed it so you can use the grater and the slicer with the protective holder??? IT would work fine the way it is or even better extend it about an inch but desperately need to reverse the grate so it can be used safely!
Grater not protected.
My issue. Which seems other have had. The grater is not on the side with the protection. So you cannot use this to protect your fingers when grating. Only used this part a day after my return window. So not stuck with a slicer that does not grate.
It slices but the grater
It slices but the grater part seems to be the wrong side it will not grater garlic at all...it will on the reverse side but not the side with the slider on that protects your fingers which is why I bought it
Joseph Joseph oh dear!
I do wish I’d read these reviews before buying. An absolute design fault by a company I’ve always associated with good design. Bought this specifically because I end up grating my knuckles and guess what if I use it I still do!! A very simple solution of putting grooves on both sides for the slider would have solved this problem. Very disappointed!
So poor
When purchasing this item you cannot see that the greater side does not have the tracks that would have made it so much better. After all the reviews I have read since my purchase I have to ask, Why is this still being manufactured? I would have thought that the design would have been changed by now. Very very disappointing.
😥 love it but …..
I really like this handy slicer grater BUT I lost the small pusher insert which, unfortunately, isn’t available ti buy as a spare part.
Finger quarks for grater missinf
As well as others, I miss the finger guard slide for the grater side. I understand way the blades cannot be on the same side. However I do not understand why the slide rail is not manufactured on both sides of the product.
Designed to be half as good as it could be
It might appear as a grater with a convenient slider for either slicing or grating - but the grater is on the other side and doesnt work with the slider! Designed to fail. Defeat snatched from the jaws of victory. Guess I'll continue to grate my fiddly garlic without a convenient slider then, thanks.
Nice design but....
After purchasing and before opening the product, I read reviews, so I should have just returned it. I hoped the design flaw was resolved and mine was Handi-Grate 2.0 or something. Sadly, the tracks were only on one side, so I'm baffled why the design would allow the guard to be removed from the slicer side but not have provided tracks for the grater side. The product otherwise makes sense (two separate sides for each function), but why does it not provide tracks for both sides?
Silly design
Wish I'd read the reviews - thought this would be perfect for grating garlic but the bit you put the garlic in is only for slicing - the grater is on the back and the widget doesn't work on the back. I really thought I'd solved my dilemma of grating my finger tips!
Flawed design
Slicer works well with finger guard. Why would you not have groove for finger protection on grater side??? Or why would you not have grater on same side as slicer. I don’t understand this flawed design 🥴
Flawed design
I see responses from joseph joseph about grater on opposite side of slicer. Solution…. PUT GROOVES ON BOTH SIDES TO ACCOMMODATE FINGER GUARD. I am returning mine :(
Design Oopsie - Seriously...did you think it through?
I got excited when I reviewed the packaging because I wanted a grater with a finger guard and saw the product had a slicer too. I thought I had a defected product when I tried to grate with the finger guard but quickly realized (and the comments confirmed), it was not designed to grate with a finger guard. I understand it wouldn't make sense to put both slicer and grater on one side but even a 7-year old would've suggested to put a guard track on the flip side for the grater. I'm sure you committed to boxes of this product and probably financial unsound to update with modifications...but now you've just made room for another company to improve and grab the sales you probably could've gotten. I'm returning mine...to bad though, I really liked the product otherwise.
Mislead by grating
I bought this from Whole Foods because I always find a way to grate my fingers. I took it home and realized you can't use the holder for grating. Well, what is the point? What a waste of money.
This item is a waste
Idea was good but product quality is a fail. Poor food slider with slippery grinder. I’m go back to use my microplane grinder and benrinner food slicer .
Guard is not versatile for both functions
The guard only works on slice side. Leaving you knuckles vulnerable on the grating side. I’m disappointed as I have many JJ items and thought they should’ve put the guard groove on both sides.
A bad design
It is not obvious from the description as well as from the picture that the ptection is only on one side and unfortunately - on the wrong one! I realised that only some time after purchase and now I'm stuck with it. This item is of no use with such a flawed desing.
