I've bought these screens multiple times in white and tan. The tan screen did not hold up to the Coachella Valley heat and the white one did. They were both installed at the same time. The tan screen separated from the top after 4 hours of being installed and the plastic bars that hold the screen were melted and warped. I found this very unusual. The materials used in the tan screen seemed softer and more pliable than the materials in the whited screen. I've bought the white screens for years and they last for years only deteriorating due to wind and age. Otherwise the white screens are great and protect the house and windows. The tan screen deteriorated within hours.
Quality is good for the price. Attached a 48"x1"x1" with zip ties to bottom to prevent warping over time. Used my own stainless eye screws with longer shank because windows are recessed. Snap rings (for keys) attached to the blinds and eye screws. Opted for white zip ties instead of provided clips on the rollup. Velcro might work better on the rollup. Looking at options.Recommend purchase.
These shades are fine for their purpose of shielding from the sun. However, am disappointed they have little clips for holding them for length instead of the cording mechanisms which made changing their level of coverage could be easily changed (up when not needed and down in the bright sunny times of the day. Clips are awkward and not easy for one person to position, plus up and down in the day/eve. is not a quick and easy change (up or down daily in some cases) like the cording was on my old ones. Handling them as an older person (female) isn`t possible in some locations on the home. Preferred my old ones, which wore out after several years, for their ease of positioning and changing frequently in some cases.
Don’t buy
I bought the 72” shades. There is no pull cord to raise or lower. It takes 2 people to roll the shade up or down. Then in order to secure the shade, they’ve included a plastic clip that is supposed to hold the heavy shade in place. The clip is attached to a vertical thread.,but it will fail after a few uses. There’s no way this will last more than a few times. And it takes 2 people to roll iron up and down . This shade really needs the pull cord that they used to have.
I think the shade was made with cheap materials and not designed to last, the track that holds the shade up and anchors it to the wall is made of cheap plastic and bends and warps in the heat of the sun. The threads used to sew the plastic reeds on the shade, are too weak, and broke with the wind. sending the shade to the ground. the shade has no anchor to hold it to the track. I had to use a rope and chaulking to secure the shade to the track. I think that I would buy a better quality, more expensive shade next time. I modified the shade and it work for me. The shade will not last long in the Texas heat, but will use it as long as I can. I did not return it to the store. If I did I would have got a refund and bought a better made shade.
Roll up blinds
Disappointed in blinds. Have had them about 2 weeks and one piece has a crack in it already. Can't use the mounting hardware or the blind lifts off in wind. Had to buy other sturdy harware that will keep the blinds attached. Really miss the corded blinds where you can pull them all the way up when necessary. These have plastic clips to hold the desired length. Not too sturdy as they only attach onto the binding strings. All in all, I would not purchase them again.
I purchased semi sheer roll-up shade by Symple Stuff. I was very disappointed with the quality of materials. I will be surprised if it lasts through the season on my back deck. It is a cordless shade that was advertised as easy to install (yeah, once you figured it out).It is cordless to protect children except it is very difficult to lower and raise without the use of a stole or ladder. I am 70 years old, if I fall off the stole and injury myself I guess that is okay because I am not a child so my health and well being are not important.Shame of Wayfair for marketing such a poor product.
We are missing the cords that were on the previous blinds which were the same style. The cords wrapped around cord cleat to keep blinds from blowing in the gentle winds. (Blinds get rolled up during stormy weather.) Without cords it is more cumbersome to roll up the blinds. Quality of blinds themselves is still the same. We purchased new blinds as we repainted porch and wanted updated blinds, as previous ones had deteriorated after several years of shady service. Previous blinds would get a 5 Star, but without cords they rate 3.5 with us.
Nice looking product but apparently being discontinued and substituting a more costly replacement. This vinyl shade works fine. The only thing I don’t like about it is that they did away with the cords. The “clip” system that you have to use with these shades for raising and lowering is awkward and time consuming, not nearly as easy as a cord system. Other than that, I like them!
Unfortunately not built to last. Also, “boo” to the idiot (legislature, I’m sure) that decided pull cords were “too dangerous” and instead implemented those stupid clips to adjust the shade height. Might get through two seasons; one clip already broke. Note: Not Wayfair’s fault - they just sell them. I’ve had the same shade before bought elsewhere and have the same complaint.
disappointed
this is my 3rd roll up blind for the patio (need to block west sun) First was dark green, 2nd dark brown. This color is tan-yellowy=ugly color. no other choice but white. obviously will look dirty fast. I prefer dark color or more choices but no other brands.then this new cordless way is a pain - also it damages the plastic when you try to clip.Am using but not happy.
Disappointment
The material is cheap although its not cheap in cost. I bought 2 of these for my porch to reduce the heat from the sun & provide some privacy. It seems to help with those issues. But the plastic slats bend & break very easily. For something that is supposed to withstand the outdoor elements its not at all a good offer. The twine wears & breaks easily. So now I have a section with twine lose & dangling, broken slats and it will inevitably come apart even more. The color also fades very quickly.
Disappointed in shipping non wrapping.
Came with blackened and smashed slats, almost totally unwrapped of flimsy clear wrapping, and most of the hanging bar broken. My fault in that I assumed it would come boxed to protect it and not in what is basically a sales floor wrap. The UPS truck even used my cement driveway to do a 3 pt turn and left huge black rubber marks, even though I live at a neighborhood street T intersection sufficient for even a big truck to make a u turn. This was a size that’s not available in any stores anymore, 4feet wide.
Nice shade, but dislike no roll-up cord.
Other than no cord, I like this shade. Easy to install. The directions for the tabs to hold the rolled up part of the shade is ridiculous. It's easier to just hook them from the front where you want it, then roll it to that point and hook it to the rolled up part. It looks the same when all said and done. Really wish it had the cord because my windows are high enough on the outside that I will have to get a ladder out every time I want to roll them up or down and then have to put the ladder in the flowers and try not to ruin them. At 73 years old having to climb up and down a ladder isn't such a good idea. These shades should be sold as an option of whether or not you want the cord roll-up feature. I gave it only 4 stars because of it having no roll-up cord.
Reasonable Solution for Back Porch Application
These shades are pretty good for my back porch application. At first, I was worried about having to raise and lower them "manually", i.e. there's no pull cord or rotating wand to quickly put them up or down. This turns out not to be such a great hindrance though as they can generally remain in one favored position. They can then be adjusted every so often for -- a special occasion, a change of weather, etc. They may also be a little easier to install than the wand variety as they simply hang on a few hooks. Although holes must be drilled for these hooks the wand shades, on the other hand, require putting up end brackets. Otherwise, these shades, manual & wand, have the same PVC makeup/design. So, manual's the simplest way to go whereas wand-operated is a bit fancier.
color doesn’t match in different sizes :(
When I purchased the blinds originally the 60 inch size was not available so I bought the other sizes that I needed and hoped the 60 inch sizes would become available eventually and they did. In the meantime, my first order arrived and we installed them. Then about a month later, the 60 inch sizes became available and we bought those and hung them before realizing that they didn’t match in color. I have no idea how I would achieve all sizes matching plus it’s too late because all the packaging was discarded And now I don’t have matching blinds. The blinds themselves are great, just not the same color across different sizes. Very upset!
Mounting instructions might be better. Also hanging brackets are not evenly spaced so hooks must be custom placed and shade is not reversible. The manner the instructions show which side is front and which is back requires the shade be unrolled but the instructions suggests not removing the package wrapping to keep the shade rolled up while installing - a good suggestion. I guessed wrong so have my shade mounted backwards. Still works but not ideal. The clips used to allow the shade to be rolled to the desired level are awkward to use and I'm afraid easily lost.
blinds
bought 4 blinds 2 @ 8 foot x 6 foot 2 @ 3foot x 6 foot the 8 foot blinds were 2 different sizes 1 came at 75 inches the other was 70 inches the 2 36 inch blinds were also different sizes 1@ 68 inches and one at 67 inches . had to cut blinds down to shortest one and install and paint a header board to make up the difference of length to get the blinds to hsng were customer wanted bottom of blind to reach . added additional cost of materials and labor that i had to absorb that could not be charged to customer. and ended up having to discount price because of the way they neede to be installed and top and bottom rails on blinds are different colors from one to another.. would not recommend purchase of this product . go to a more expensive product and save your self a big headache. total junk Less
These were terrible. When it said cordless i thought there...
These were terrible. When it said cordless i thought there was some way to roll them up besides standing there and rolling them up with your hands then trying to hol them at that level while hooking a cheap piece of hooked plastic thru the stitching that hold the bamboo slats together. I guess they would ge ok if you never planned to put them up and down once positioned but if you wanted to raise and lowere them daily they were difficult to do and i could foresee the stitching breaking quickly from repeatedly hooking and unhooking the threads that held the slats together. After installing and trying the first one i took it down and returned them. I wouldn’t recommend them except if you were never going to raise and lowere them.
Terrible shades
Ordered 3 shades. 2 the same size & 1 narrower. They looked very nice out of the box. However, after hanging all 3, they all were sloping abput 1-1/2" at the bottom! The top rail had been installed using a level, & was rechecked & still level after hanging.Upon measuring the distance of each shade from the top rail to the bottom rail they were all off by 1-2 inches! The second issue are the clips that you use to anchor them upon rolling up. Unless you are a giant or plan on having a ladder hearby each time you want to roll up or down, they are a pain! These are for an outside porch, so go up pretty high. A normal height person can only reach so high, which is not high enough if you want them to go all the way up!The materiial is also very flimsy!I would definitely NOT RECOMMEND them to even my enemy & certainly will not ever buy this type of shade again. So, that's what you get unless you want to buy a more expensive product! Now these will have to be taken down & trashed & some better ones purchased! Live & learn! Less
