Very pleased with the OXO Good Grips Food Mill. It is really good quality’s and easy to use. The extendable legs allow it to fit over my largest pan as easily as a small one.
Great for getting rid of raspberry seeds
My sister-in-law's latest awesome cake loaded with perfect raspberry puree was the deciding factor here. The food mill is basically a sieve and still takes some work, but it's a lot better than pushing the fruit through a strainer.
[Rewarded Review] Food Mill FAIL
I thought the one I purchased was faulty. Oxo was good to replace it under warranty. The replacement product was just as bad as the first. Terrible product — so disappointing for a company I use for many household items.
Good for the cost
Used this for tomatoes. Easy to juice, but I personally think it doesn't get all the juice out like some other more expensive products too.
In love again for the first time!
Not my first rodeo! I've never been disappointed with any purchase of an "oxo good" product, and this is no different. Excellent quality makes kitchen tasks a breeze!
This is an excellent food mill. I did a lot of research and had high hopes which were met. It’s easy to assemble and to clean. It works smoothly. I made Passata which turned out well with little waste. Would definitely recommend.
Excellent Food Mill
I've owned my OXO food mill now for 3 or 4 years and am still extremely happy with it. I will highly recommend this item to anyone looking for a good quality food mill. When I first got it seemed the auger was a little tricky to line up and secure in place. After a slight turn of the handle it allowed me to position it easier. After that slight "learning curve " I don't have any problems.
[Rewarded Review] Very efficient; easy to use;
Very efficient; easy to use; well made; great piece of kitchen equipment.
Very Well Made
The Oxo food Mill produced great results, was very easy to change discs and when it was time to wash it, comes apart effortlessly.
[Rewarded Review] Easy to use and great quality!
I bought this to make my Thanksgiving mashed potatoes this year. I had found a low-fat recipe that recommended this food mill to make the potatoes fluffy and creamy. It did! The potatoes were delicious and you wouldn't have known they were low-fat. The food mill is so easy to use. I am planning to use it for homemade marinara too!
Works but could be better.
1) There needs to more of a hook shape to the foldable legs so they stay put around the bowl or pot it is sitting on. Multiple times the mill slid to the edge and came off the bowl falling in or onto the counter.
Could Be Better
I like everything about the food mill except that it does not push down on the food as hard as it should. You want a device like this to push hard, forcing the food through the grate. However, this food mill only exerts moderate pressure, and as soon as the softest part of the food has been milled away, the blade starts slipping over the top of the remaining food, causing it to accumulate against the grate, rather than forcing the food through the grate, as it’s supposed to. A person expects a small amount of food fiber to remain inside the drum, but not this much. I was only able to mill half-a-head of cooked cauliflower before the remainder of it simply accumulated in the bottom of the drum, despite the fact that I used the grate with the largest holes. By repeatedly cranking the handle backwards and forwards, I was eventually able to grind most of the remaining cauliflower, but it took much more time and effort than it should have. The blade needs to be much tighter to be effective.
Great Food Mill
Really great: sturdy and well-built. Makes making tomato sauce so much easier. While I wish the ends could clip onto the pot underneath, it works great. Would happily buy again.
Just what I needed
Am I glad that I upgraded from an inherited Foley food mill! So far I've used it for applesauce, and it works like a dream. I love that I can choose the size of the grinding disc and that it fits different sized pans and bowls securely. It is easy to put together and take apart if you follow the directions. The handle is much easier to turn and the mill cleans more easily than my Foley. It appears well-built, and I think will last for years.
LOving this food Mill
this was gift from my amazing brother, it works like a charm. the rubberized feet are an excellent addition to the functionality to prevent slippage. great quality product.
Wish I could hook it up to a motor.
I like the metal bowl on this food mill. The rubberized parts keep the thing from slipping while you're cranking. My only wish was that the bend in the handle were higher up so I could chop off the handle and use it with an electric drill. I did that with a cheaper food mill which was made of plastic. It worked well motorized but I could see some shreds of plastic coming off. I love my Oxo mandolin.
Good Product
I grew up using the cone shaped mill with the wooden pestle. This is the first that I've used the crank type. It worked well for the applesauce that I made and I would recommend it. The only negative for me was cleaning it. The apple peels stuck to the grid and it was hard to clean them off. Overall, it's a good product and I would recommend purchasing it.
DesignProblem resulting in wear products
Design problem: the Center shaft is chrome plated... very hard. It turns in a Center hole in the stainless steel strainer. As you use it, the strainer wears and the wear products go into you food. We were milling apples, and noticed lumps of tinted apple falling off the lower end of the Center shaft. A better choice of materials would prevent this or the use of a small sealed bearing, but the mill can not be used as is.
Works very well for making good pasta sauce but a little trcky to put together.
I got this to make tomato sauce with San Marzano Tomatoes that later became really good Vodka Sauce. This food mill crushed up the San Marzano Tomatoes really well and removed all of the seeds very well. I will use this again and again to make both a simple tomato sauce with San Marzano Tomatoes and also the Vodka Sauce that I just mentioned. The only issue that I had was that it was a little tricky to put assemble. The assembly instructions were very simple and also very clear but the food mill itself just did not want to snap together easily.
Terrible design.
Terrible design. The press vanes do not meet the plates well, and you end up with a gummy layer of product that completely blocks up the plates and prevents further milling through the plate holes. The only way I can achieve any kind of milling is to use a plastic scraper and forcefully continue scraping the plates in the cramped spaces between the bowl and vanes. Obviously, ridiculous. Smaller bowl as well. Especially at this price point, I would have expected a better mill.
