Cool Deal

I haven’t fished this yet, but out of the package it’s very nice. The reel is very smooth, and it breaks down very nicely in the carrying case. The case is high quality and is both rigid and padded. I wish I could buy cases this nice for my other rods.

Great price, worked flawlessly

Works great, went out with guys from work, fished near Catalina Island caught my first (ocean) fish off a boat, was a good sized Bonito (sorry no picture) , combo worked flawlessly (this was also my first ocean spinning reel, usually go conventional). Used 300 yards 20lb braid with about 20 yard 20lb mono with room for more. Hooked on something big (I'm saying it was a Tuna) it was working the drag and rod pretty good, unfortunately, broke the leader. This is great sized setup for a boat. I have always been partial to Penn equipment and for as often as I fish (not as often as I would like) doesn't break the bank account.

For the money I feel a great deal

Bought one and strung with 16 pound mono. Hooked up with some nice 22-24 in drums. Handle it with no problem. Smooth reel action. Great distance on the cast. Went back and bought another. Very pleased.

stripped out on first fish.

I thought this was a good value and was excited to use it . the first fish i hooked on Navarre Pier absolutely blew the 4000 reel out .It was totally stripped out guess you get what you pay for. This was the penn prevail 7 ft combo.

Only rod you’ll ever need!

4 1 Stainless SEALED bearings - 6:2:1 gear ratio - POWERFUL 10lbs HT-100™ drag system DINGS LIKE A BELL - “lightweight”, corrosion-resistant graphite body - Instant Anti-Reverse bearing. The $15 7ft medium light , fast action rod is good enough. Held up great against a 16in LARGE MOUF BASS.

For the win!!! Pursuit for the win!

The pursuit line is a great value combo for any fishing. We have a 3000 series combo for the pier, has caught many fish and the reel is still super smooth. Picked up a new 6000 series combo, and wow! Perfect for those mid size fish, my son landed a beautiful king. Combo has great drag to wear it out and control to bring the fish to us.

[Rewarded Review] Pretty good

Everything looks good and intact. I will say that packaging could have been better, but shipping was fast. I will be testing out this rod and reel combo soon and I’m excited on its results

Great value rod and reel combo

This was an excellent buy. Spooled with 25lb monofilament this combo is extremely versatile. Using it mostly for hauling in some monster catfish but I can throw it in pretty much any water for any fishing with great confidence.

Not great quality control

Had the 7 foot medium/heavy rod and reel combo. Didn't even get the chance to get a line wet before the end rod piece snapped while I was fitting a leader on it. Not even a fish!! Just getting the the line rigged. And of course, Penn doesn't service their rods, just the reels. So yeah. $160 rod went right into the garbage without so much as being used even once. Switched the reel to a Big Water Ugly Stick.

So far it's been good rig

I've only had it a few weeks and it has performed well. It was packed well when shipped so there were no problems there. I'm saltwater fishing in some bays right now and have caught several black drum on it. Retrieval is nice and smooth. Nothing really big yet to put it to the test but I'm pleased with it so far.

Good Penn pursuit rod reel combo

This is the best rod and reel combo for beginners. And for all of you good fisherman that have a lot of time on the water this is a good rod and reel combo for you, but always if you buy a rod in a store, don’t forget to bend your rod on the ground and bended a little bit just to make sure nobody’s broken in the past.

2 of 3 combos failing

This is my third IV combo. 1st one has been going strong for 3 years now and it's great, it's landed many large smallies and a few 40+ pike. 2nd one lasted 1 season until I started having issues, it still works today, but not reliably and not smooth so it's a backup to the backup. 3rd one I purchased a month ago and the anti-reverse has failed making solo netting difficult as the fish can take off freely without any resistance if you're not holding the handle in place. I'll open it up to see what's going on but likely a complete failure based on feel. No more Puirsuit combos for me! I'll stick with the Fenwick HMGs paired with Pflueger Presidents: very reliable.

Top quality as always from PENN

I bought this combo for kayak fishing in saltwater off the coast of North Captiva Island. I couldn’t be happier with the setup. It’s a perfect weight and length for strong casts and the trusted durability of PENN’s reels anre exactly what I needed.

Very nice combo

This is a really nice rod and reel since Penn is a good brand. I bought it for my husband, and he was really impressed with the quality of the product. I appreciated how well it was packaged when it was shipped. We have had other rods from other companies that were shipped very poorly where something like the rod tip broke since it was loose and allowed to shift in the box. Overall, it was well worth the money.

Reel is not what is pictured

I ordered this for my young son for Christmas because he specifically wanted the reel in the picture. We didn't discover that it was different until my husband and I were laying it out for him Christmas Eve. It was the one "big" present we were able to get him. Not a very joyful Christmas morning for him. We are returning it and will just buy him the one he wants somewhere else.

Good starter outfit

This rod and reel combo were not quite what unexpected since the description indicated a 2 piece rod (which is why I bought it from Walmart in the first place). Instead, I got a one piece 7’ rod, which is not too easy to transport. However, it works very well and I enjoyed casting with it. I bought it as a first serious fishing rod for my grandson and is looking forward to bringing in the lunkers.

Perfect Combo

I purchased a combo of these in the 6000 size, and am totally impressed. My wife and I just started fishing again after raising our 5 children.

Nice Entry Level Penn Combo

How do people give one star for damage in shipping? That’s no fault of the product. Let’s get to the real reason for reviews… the product. This is a great rod combo for a beginner or kid. Better quality than your off brand entry level combos, but still not so expensive that it’s difficult to replace when a fish pulls the rod into the water, never to be seen again, because your kid isn’t holding it. We’re on his 2nd Penn combo. And I’m happy with both that we’ve owned. Penn makes a good product at any price point.

Get 'em before they're gone

Yesterday, January 21, 2022, I received my order of the Penn Pursuit IV Combo, rod and reel. I have several Penn and Okuma rods, but I have to say this this rod will be my favorite for fishing local lakes, ponds, and creeks. For about $80, this combo is worth every cent. The reel, a Penn Pursuit IV 3000, is solidly built. The new handle is incredibly strong. The entire reel is the best bang you can get for fresh or inshore fishing.

Pursuit III 3000 perfect freshwater rod and reel.

Wanted a spinning reel for finesse fishing. Strike King jigs, Ned rigs, Drop shots and light Texas rigs. Have 2 saltwater Spinfishers and love them. Never considered anything but a Penn. Can’t beat the price and the quality is great. Fished with it 2 times and have caught 4 nice sized Bass a Bluegill and a Sunfish. Lost 2 Bass that threw the hook. If you want a nice freshwater spinning reel for finesse Bass fishing that doesn’t break the bank. Check out the Pursuit III.
